Nothing in the world would make me happier than the return of speedway in M.K. but sadly i can't see it ever happening. There are more residential areas than ever and the thought of noisy, smelly bikes would cause uproar, HOWEVER, i was recently talking to someone who has previously had strong links with speedway, and he seemed confident it would happen in the near future !! - i still can't see it though.

British Selection For 2007
Concrete Cowboy replied to Gaz W's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
This post has made my day, i can't stop laughing at the fact that i originally joined this forum to discuss speedway and some nutter who seriously beleives he's 800 years old and comes from Mongolia is getting so worked up about it that he is comparing himself to Winston Churchill and Scott Nicholls as Adolph Hitler . It's just so funny, you couldn't dream it up . -
Confirmed Gp Tracks For 2007 + Rumours
Concrete Cowboy replied to tarabanko's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
My preferences for the 4 available places would be Nicholls Harris Lindback plus one other from Lindgren/B Pedersen/P.Karlsson Purely for the reason that as it is a 'world championship', i would like to see a cross section of riders from 'the world'. Gollob/Hampel/Jagus (POL) Crump/Adams (AUS) Pedersen/Andersen (DEN) Rune Holta (NOR/POL) Lindback/Jonsson (SWE) Harris/Nicholls (GB) Hancock (USA) Zagar (SLO) -
Wembley Hopes
Concrete Cowboy replied to speedyguy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Too true - with all the exposure sky are giving the sport, a return to the capital could tip it into the realm of "mainstream sporting events instead of the '2nd class sport' perception so many people have.. -

Wembley Hopes
Concrete Cowboy replied to speedyguy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You know, i read with interest the threads about Cardiff vs Wembley and comments made in favour of the Welsh option seem to centre around Hotels, Bars, pubs, Atmosphere, etc.etc.. Well for those who like that (and i'm not saying there is anything wrong with it), we've had 6 years of that so far with more to come, so at the risk of being unpopular i'd like to put a case forward for those of us who prefer to drive to the event, watch the event, and then drive home again on the same day. In other words - go to watch speedway. For me going to cardiff involves a good 6 hours total driving, being charged to cross a bridge !!!, and getting there 5 hours early in order to hunt for a parking space. Wembley would be closer with a huge car park and no bloody bridge. You can't please all the people all the time, but i wouldn't mind a bit of give and take - alternate years and venues perhaps ?. -

Well, 7th place in the 2006 championship makes some of the previous posts look a bit stupid doesn't it ?. Well done Matej, bring on 2007. -

Just sent this to the sky sports editor, i wonder if it will even get read ?. I have often felt like e-mailing on this subject but i now have no choice. Tony Millard's commentary on the Czech Speedway G.P. was the worst i have ever heard. The guy is usually terrible but this was awful. Constant repetition, wrong riders, he was even told by his co-commentator that it was not a wrong decision by the ref, but it was in-fact the rules. Please do something with him. I subscribe to sky sports purely for speedway but i will re-consider next season if this incompitent is still ruining your otherwise excellent coverage. Come on folks - let's get him out for next year. -
At least i've put a smile on someone's face today

Before i go any further with this, i'm not goingto argue with anyone about this. I beleive a forum is created to discuss opinions and that is all i am giving - my opinion. According to the info i have just looked up, Mark's average in 2000 for Poole was 10.10. According to Steve Turners stats on this site, his average for all matches so far this year is 8.96. Mark also hold's the distinction of becoming world champion without actually winning a g.p. - not his fault i know, but if that was the case in 2000, he's hardly likely to better it next year is he ?. Mark seems a nice guy and has reached the top but at 36 next year, my opinion is that someone younger should be given a chance.
-
Sure, let's get Loram in the G.P.'s. And while we're at it let's name next year's world cup team : 1. Dave Jessup 2. Peter Collins 3. Gordon Kennett 4. Chris Morton 5. Ted Hubbard (just to please Shazzy). Come on Guys, with due respect to Marky boy, he's had his moment in the spotlight and whilst i agree that world class british riders are thin on the ground, we need riders who are on the way up - not down. Bomber may be a bit rough around the edges but with a bit of decent sponsorship and guidance ( a la Havvy with Nicholls ), he can do the businass.

This article from the excellent SPEEDWAYPLUS website should answer most of your questions. http://www.speedwayplus.com/elfield_park.shtml

Do you mean the end of speedway at Groveway stadium (greyhound track), or the end of Elfield park (standalone speedway) ?.
