Posted on the Worky thread 3 days after it was posted on your thread. Needn’t have bothered aye. If you really don’t want any clue of who may ride in a team next year, why be on a forum full of speculation?

Sorry added to that... CupidStunt posted 6 of your team on Friday in this thread

Ey up Gaz, you’re letting the big spenders thread slip down the ranks, you’ve only got another 74 pages to go before you hit your target!

10,000 minus 7000 is 3000 Even Jenga could tell you that one!

    Workington 2019

It was sort of planned to be, put together to not win anything to keep costs down...only to surprisingly have our best and probably most expensive season ever!
  6. WorkyWorky

    Championship race nights?

    Workington are Saturdays at 7pm!

I guess they should, but I’d think that most don’t see it as their forever career. At some point they will retire and work a ‘normal’ job. Why not make as much now at their peak as they can. So maybe they only focus on now and not the future of the sport? I mean I don’t blame the riders, if I was being offered a job with a big fat pay cheque with added courtesy car, travel all expenses paid etc. Compared to a job I’d just accepted with minimum wage, I honestly would not turn it down. That would be crazy! But the real world does work differently to speedway so maybe I shouldn’t think of it that way!

Yup that sounds about spot on! That is what should happen. THJ’s post summed up in fewer words with less of a headache

Teams trying to play catch up with offering riders over the odds and bankrupting themselves in the meantime. It really is scary, there will be no teams left to watch in a few seasons time I fear!

Basically any rider you want, you have to ask the club/BSPA that the rider belongs to, for permission to speak to said rider. If a club contacts a rider without owners permission, contract signed or not, it is as THJ states, an illegal approach. It is not just a case of ‘We will do as we see fit.’ Rules are rules. Money being thrown around by any team is a different matter, and is gradually adding to the demise of British Speedway. Yes you are within your rights to spend as much of a ridiculous amount of money as you want. But it’s rather strange after stating and agreeing with other teams, that losses of £100,000+ have got to stop, isn’t it?

A pointless exercise that’s destroying speedway as we know it, I really wish the wind would blow it away Gaz. We ARE worrying about our own club, which is precisely why we are so bothered by the antics of a certain Scottish club. Get me on that scoreboard, I look forward to seeing the winner.

Can’t see that happening, unless it was for us to fit certain riders in, but would we be allowed? I don’t mind Saturday night speedway

I think you could soon be easily swayed... Looking forward to seeing all full teams when announced!

    Leicester 2019

    Don’t count on that Jenga

    Scunthorpe 2019

Nope didn’t want him, although he is a great rider and liked the team spirit at Worky, expected him to be with Somerset actually! As for Jensen that’s unknown, many teams after him and he will go to whoever waves the most money at him I would think (rightfully so)! Well recovered after plenty gulps of beer from our many cups and ready for winding you all up again next season

Jake Allen and Jedd List very surprised to see Allen back with the scorpions!

    Somerset 2019

Because in the Championship you have 11 other teams to race against, as opposed to 6 other teams in the Premiership. Actually quite surprised to see all of the doom and gloom about dropping down to this league. I’m sure the likes of Lakeside fans would take your place in heartbeat!

I think the point limit is a step in the right direction. I mean if you REALLY really want to have Cook, you still could have, with the rest of the team being a majority of 2 pointers. It would only water down that kind of team. It makes a more level playing field. A team of 6 pointers was far from watered down at Workington and the racing was fantastic, and looks like it’s the secret (or not so secret) formula! A lot of teams if not all will just be happy to be running, if it cuts down costs and prevents doubling up then so be it.

I do think that £16 is a completely fair price for an adult. Could even reach £18 and I think it would be well worth the entertainment (considering some championship tracks do charge this and more, with no greater facilities than Derwent Park). As for concessions, it would be wrong to scrap the discounted rate in my opinion as the majority of the current audience are 65+. However, a concession rate is offered for ages 16-17, students and OAP’s. The argument has been raised regarding retired people having more disposable income. What about the massive amount of young workers (24 and under), apprentices, that earn a totally lower pay rate than ages 25+. No discount is given. Maybe this could explain a lack of interest from young people. There will never be an answer to please everybody. It is seemingly difficult to pull in new fans, but we can protect the club with what we already have. Every little helps, plenty of fundraising, people contributing to Workington Speedway Trust. It would be a real shame to lose the club we love after such a brilliant season.
