If only it were so!! Mind you, I remember Pete Chapman and Moggo winding the Poole fans up a treat, with similar antics back in the early 90s. Still a great result for Ipswich to grab a point. Fortunate for the Monarchs that they picked a decent guest, otherwise things may have been different!!!!

Presumably Edinburgh are in the 10%, as they soon got shot of him!!

So by using your formula you were looking for a #1 rider with an average of between 9.00 and 8.50. At the end of the last season there were five riders that would have met that criteria. Of those Parker and Lyons had decided to retire, and Wolbert was going full time NsEL. So your choice then rests between Robson and Neath. There has never been an indication that either have any desire to move away from their current promotions. Indeed both have been very unfortunate with injuries. What this demonstrates, is that there is not an ubundant supply of these types of rider.

    Rye House 2012

As has already been pointed out, its four home and four away. As far as I'm aware play offs are not included in the end of season averages. so whilst a top six finish will be good for business, it's not important from an average perspective. in any event there was supposed to be a competition for those sides finishing 7-12, although it remains to be seen if that actually happens. Of course it depends how you define British. Remember, North and the boy Heeps both hold British passports
  6. Ah the insecure one is on the case again. As usual he adds nothing to the debate, but I suppose with his own personal issues that he has to deal with, no one should be that surprised!!!!! No complaints from me about Ipswich missing out on the Pairs. If averages are to be used for qualification purposes, it is quite evident that Ipswich fall a long way short. Interesting that for a pairs meeting the top three averages are taken, yet for the Fours it wasn't five. But both events are organised by the BSPA should anyone be surprised.

I would have thought that Lanham might be, particularly if he ends up in the number one race jacket in September!!!!!! To someone like Muppet, the simple task of maintaining and updating an elementary spreadsheet must seem rather onerous. But remember poor old Muppet, who incidentally regards himself as a gambling expert, yet lacked the mathematical acumen to understand the principles of absolute returns. If Muppet thinks I'm sad then so be it. But coming from someone who thinks that incest is OK, that pretends about being a professional gambler, only to be "outed" as a shop assistant....then perhaps being sad isn't that bad!!!!

Despite his last two performances his RA continues to fall, and now stands at 6.69. Surprisingly, with just one home and two away meetings scheduled before the next set of GSAs are calculated, Lanham now sits at #1 in the Witches' averages. Mind you it's very tight, with young Poole and Tungate just 0.01 behind, North at 6.64, Risager 6.23, Tres 6.02, and the boy Heeps 4.41.

I waited until the official GSAs were released and the averages confirm that Yuung Poole will be #1 for August. Risager drops to reserve.

I'm afraid you hear wrong. Monberg comes to the Rebels on a 7.67 average, which is above Lanham's current GSA, and certainly well above what it will be come 1st August.

    Ipswich 2012

I'm not so sure about that!!! Doolan has tweeted that he has not signed for Somerset, and hasn't even spoken to them. UPDATE: Rebels sign Moonberg as injury replacement for Vissing. I make it 7.09....but could be wrong!!!!!

    Ipswich 2012

No the choice was between Lanham and Doolan, for the reasons given earlier. If Lanham is to be replaced it needs to be done in the next seven days, before his average actually does fall on the 1st August. Mind you even at 7.26 there's not a fat lot out there, but it does provide the option to blood a continental novice. But would we really want someone new to these shores to assume the #1 race jacket?

    Ipswich 2012

Whilst they are calculated up to the 23rd July, they don't take effect until 1st August. So on Thursday Lanham will still be at #1, and consequently provided the change was made before the new GSAs come into play, ie 1st August, Young Poole could have replaced either Lanham or Doolan.

    Ipswich 2012

Agreed. If they wanted to bring Young Poole back, then I would have replaced Lanham. Even then I'm not sure that would be the right call.

    Ipswich 2012

I think he would come in on a seven point assessed average. He currently rides for Holsted, and under Reg 17.2.1, he would be classified as a Cat 2 rider, vis... A Rider with an “end of his previous season’s published average” in the Polish Ekstraliga or Swedish Elitserien of 6.00 and below plus ALL other Riders riding currently in any Professional League. Unless he can claim some other qualifying criterion, I fear it would be a seven point average, which would bring him as a number one!!
  19. Who had "nicked it" (what a quaint expression!!) from Frankie Valli!!!!

    Ipswich 2012

There has been some debate as to whether Young Poole should replace Lanham. At the moment he can, but I suspect if Ipswich wait until the next set of GSAs they might be out of luck. Following the Scunthorpe debacle, Lanham now has a RA of 6.94. There are three more meetings that will be included in the next set - Somerset (H), Sheffield (A), and Leicester (A). In order to maintain his 6.94 average he needs to average 2.4 per ride, not easy for a rider totally committed and on the top of his form, which Lanham clearly isn't. So the chances are, that by the time the next set of GSAs are issued, Young Poole's average of 6.90 may well be higher than the revised Lanham figure. Whether it is wise to replace Lanham with a race rusty and clearly not fully fit Young Poole, is the subject for another day. What is clear, is that as Lanham's average plummets the options become increasingly limited.
  21. I was using the figures to underline Louis point of “....... we (would) be one of the strongest teams.......”. Remember the teams announced by the BSPA consist of FIVE riders, and given that, Ipswich are the fourth strongest team based on RAs. We all know how the BSPA base their qualifying criteria, which is fair enough, but it doesn't lessen the substance of Louis' remarks.
  22. I know my posts are good, but there is really no need to quote them twice!!!!!! I haven't taken anything badly, just bringing to other members' attention to an article in the local press that may be of interest In addition I have added a little factual comment. Pip pip
  23. Interesting piece by Mike Bacon in the EADT: http://www.lovespeedway24.co.uk/teams/ipswich-witches/louis_fury_as_redcar_now_get_premier_fours_call_up_1_1439011 I reckon Louis may have a point. Ignoring the fact that Ipswich are the current champions, and really should be there to defend their title, now the teams have been announced, they justify inclusion based on the combined averages. Using the June RAs, Ipswich have a combined average of 34.09, which is only bettered by Somerset (35.69), Plymouth (35.20), and Newcastle (35.17).
