  1. Mmmm...... I seem to recall 'cityrebel' that one Friday when the Eastbourne Eaglets including Cookie were in town, a certain number of that night's Hackney Kestrel News mysteriously carried a spurrious back page artice stating that junior riders over 6'0" tall were being banned from riding. There then followed a detailed explanation as to the apparent reasoning behind this basically stating that the taller riders had a higher centre of gravity and therefore were that much more prone to falling off.

As an old track staff, I have help to "disentangle" Jon Cook from the fence on several occasions at Arlo.On his day he was reasonable but other wise ,be afraid, be very afraid, for the fence.I think the reason Mr Dugard went from 4x2 timber and mesh panels to to ply wood panels as J.C destroyed so many panels.

  2. Will you stop about the bloody programme, it's all you hark on about.

Lakeside may have branded the meetings as Hackney but they didn't fulfil all of those fixtures did they? The Hackney 'experiment' was no doubt a failure, both sets of promotions have to take some portion of the blame whilst of course on the flip side if people didn't want to go then no amount of promotion would have made them.

I'm delighted that (as I suggested months ago) the Raiders nickname is coming back, it has certainly re-kindled my interest as the name means something to me and i'm sure other Rye fans will feel the same. I hope we go back to basics next year, track a team of youngsters and drop the admission prices so that the stadium has a crowd in it each week. I don't care if our NL team comes first or last, if we can bring some future stars through it will have done it's job.

What is your problem ,it is only a name .The team that is based 50% of the time at Rye is nearly the same as last year.Next year is nearly going to be the same probably.Years ago there was a team called "Southern Rovers" and there home matches were raced here there and every where. It was only a NAME to get another team into the league. But I do feel that reading a lot of R/H followers post that they are very fickle!!!!

  3. Lets hope the BSPA do splash out , but i wouldn't hold your breath!! Sadly it seems in this country we do not support our yuth ridres lie say in Denmark or Germany. As you rightly say alittle sky money could help hugely.

The BSPA would rather spend money on legal fees than the youth riders in this country. They F useless.

  4. Match report on the Tigers win here

Tigers where without doubt the better team. Branford and Morley where excellent. What a shame we couldn't have had a Bronze Helmet match race between these two. Perhaps that's one of the things they could look at the winter conference....

Cheers ,Paul,Nice to see some support for NL matches. We should of scored more than 8 from eleven rides at reserve .Both need to up their game if they are considered for a team next year where ever it is based.Personally I enjoyed the Lakeside staging more but if we can get another "club" runnning I think that NL can go FORWARD WITH MUCH SUPPORT FROM THE BSPA.If there is no support NL is F33kED.BSPA has got to put more money into NL racing.

  5. tim webster was never goin to ride in this meeting and i was told that 10days ago, nothing suprises me with stoke but i am suprised that tim can ride on fri then birmingham on thursday and then stoke on sat, whats the betting he say on thurs night after the birmingham meeting he is fit for stoke on sat, think i might go to ladbrokes to see what the odds are

Talking like a prat,if a rider has to borrow a bike to ride in a "challenge match " to test his fitness after "totaling" both his bikes showed commitment if he feels he is not up to it fitness wise and has not a bike of his own to ride are you going to buy him one!!!!

  6. Jason looked very good. One of the few riders to do some proper passing without relying on mistakes from the oppo.Moi was also very good.Battled hard and in one heat took Ahlbom on the line after the Finn thought he had the heat and slowed.None too happy with himself and left his bike by the pit gates.Jason is of course half Ozzie. Before he had both the Danish and Australian flags on his kevlars and rode in Crumpie colours. Now he has the boxing kangaroo on his racesuit.Looks a very good talent

Report and some fotos on the Elgane site G.Moi

Thamks for the link Iris 123,great photos. It would be good if all nations trained young riders with the same engine size.In Scandinavia I believe it is mainly 80 cc as i have read on this forum, but what is the next class/Capacity? In England it is 125,250 and 500 from 14 years old.In Australia I believe it is 125,350 and 500.It would be good I feel if it was the same every wherebut i can se that running an 80cc two stroke would be cheaper than 2/350/500 fourstroke motor

  7. Cant agree. If you're sitting in line, over the top, of the tapes you cant always see if one side goes up a fraction before the other. We are talking fractions but at this level it means plenty

If the ref had had the sense to look at the monitor I am lead to believe Sky provide then I feel commmon sense would prevail,BUT this is the speedway hierarchy!!!

  8. NOT a sensible idea at all. As likely as not the starting marshal would be blinded by dirt coming off the track but are you really suggesting that he should have the power to initiate a restart rather than the referee? That would be placing a huge onus on an untrained guy who may or may not get it right. Far too risky and unprofessional.

This subject is actually being discussed at the highest level right now. My own suggestion is that the referee has immediate access at the end of each race, should he request it, to replays of the head on TV camera, which has the best view in the stadium. The powers-that-be are looking into ways of having a separate TV monitor in the referee's box that could have that view available even before the end of the race. If the referee was in any doubt he could look at the replay or even a static picture within seconds and before announcing the result of the race.

The technology is there so let's use it.

The refereeing this year I feel has been bloody appalling at all levels of the sport. The powers that be need to TRAIN ALL referees to the same standard,By the same man .Tony Steele.Ageism has hit Mr Steele as though he was employed by the B.B.C.he is still the best man in the speedway world for the job ,employ him to train new refs in the speedway world. If any ref should be got rid of it is Jim Lawrence. He has been making MEGA,MEGA cockups for many years and is still getting away with it ,as witnessed in the SWC.He should not be allowed to ref. amateur matches in my opinion

  9. I have totally slagged off Bossman on HACKNEY v K L Thread.I do not feel that it was un kind or vicous attack as I do not think that he or many other people realise how much young riders and their families forgo to see family members hurtle round a speedway track.Even at NL level it costs Thousands of pounds per season. Family member for HACKNEY scored 21 points in the last couple of matctes,£10 a point, not difficult even for you Bossman.Van broke down en route,Thanks to Allan Mogridge, rider got to Scunthorpe!!

After EARNING £ 210 plus traveling for TWO meetings, nearly £4oo was paid out for van repairs. In addition to that A bike motor "pop"which adds another £300 to the bill. Can you see now Bossman ,young Brits need support all the way.You complain about entrance fee but I would rather £12 for a NL ( did you see on youtube,Shane And Ben against Scott Ritchardson vBVcolts)classic NL racing, than EL racing. The one PL SKY match has once again shown you do not have to have GP stars to have good racing. Please support you your local NL team,BRITISH SPEEDWAY CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT.!!!!!!!

  10. As far as I know yes it is - on my way there

BOSSMAN ,what is your problem? I wish I could attend and watch Family Compete for "HACKNEY"My family have been racing motorcycles before I was born 58 years ago.I have encouraged a family member to race on the grass,His son to progress to race for Rye House cobras 2010 ,this year HACKNEY HAWKS.Whats is your problem? 40 years ish ago I had problems at Canterbury speedway .I met a guy at a grass meeting I was racing at a few years later,he recounted the match 15 ish years later,we agreed to diagree but we are still mates after so long after the fact We raced and respected each other for many years until we both packed up racing Bikes.I was dragged kicking and screaming to watch an 11 year old RIDE Not race a 100cc bike.7 Bloody hard years later PRATS LIKE YOU complain.

IF YOU KNEW HOW MUCH RIDERS FAMILIES PUT INTO TEENAGE RIDERS you would be totally gobsmacked.I AM TOTALLY TATS OFF WITH WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU who whinge and know nothing about the inside of the sport>

  11. I refuse to put Hackney v Belle Vue because we all know it's the Cobra's team re-branded.

Not a bad BV team but can't see anything other than a home win.

Does anyone have any team news and indeed is anybody going? I know of 12 people that are not going

Bring me sunshine in your smile ,Bring me laughter all the while, NOT

  12. I have to say the meeting was very enjoyable to watch, all the riders had me on the edge of my seat!I personally think the draw was a fair outcome...

I do want to make a couple of comments though...

I think a lot of people tend to forget some of these riders are still learning their trade. Some have been riding 3 or 4 years and are still learning! The likes of riders such as Lewis Kerr who has only been riding speedway just over a year and has only competed in one season tend to get some harsh comments on here and trackside which I feel are significantly unjustified. Its a huge learning curve for these lads and these young riders need help, support and advice, not stupid comments and snide remarks. Come on everyone!!

i agree with you on you comments. Most people on BSF have probably never a motorbike let alone raced.Speedway is a totally kettle of fish to other M/cycle sport as bikes have no brakes and no gearbox.Young speedway riders have to learn to get good throttle and clutch control without these they will get nowhere.

  13. I think Acne Awks could have a good season this year .With one qualified and two seeded riders in the British U21 Final it looks good.Add in Barry Evans ,David Mason ,Ben Morley and Brandon Freemantle it looks a fairly strong team.I do think that they need to work on team spirit as last years RH Cobras had very little.Who ever is captain needs to work on that a bit this year.I would like to see the Awks in the play offs this season. With a bit of team work it could happen. Up the Awks!!

  14. Strewth! Not so long back on this forum people were moaning like Billy-oh that nothing was being done with regard to developing future talent and now the BSPA, in conjunction with Phil & Neil, both of whom are very committed to the cause, ARE doing something, people are STILL moaning!

In terms of venues firstly stadium / date availability would obviously be a major factor and secondly, from the schedule published five out of the six rounds will be staged at weekends whilst the other, on the Isle of Wight, is smack in the middle of the schools summer holidays. Surely that ALL makes sense?

I totally agree,Bryn.2or3 years ago it was very "last minute"organisation. It great to see someone looking out for the youngsters

Parents can organise their selves well in advance this year.Give your selves a pat on the back for getting it right this time!!

  15. I will be honest in saying that I have never watched under 16s racing before. Of course I support the development, but I have just never had the opportunity to go and watch.

However yesterday at Scunthorpe, watching the pre meeting races of the under 16s I couldn't help but notice these two young lads, Robert Lambert and Nathan Greaves and be left in awe of their ability at such a young age. Looking at the programme they are both only 13 right? Amazing!

I am wondering about what opportunities they have for regular track time and when they are able to be part of a team set up? Like I said, I don't know an awful lot about the young side of the sport. Of course they have the under-15s championship which is great! When are the rounds of this, and does anyone know if Workington (Northside) have a round again this year? I now wish I had gone last year as it seems I missed some great racing. Personally thought their racing was better yesterday than some of their senior peers.

This is one of the problems in speedway,If a rider is in the EL or Pl he has got to be good any other rider below is a nobody.NL /under 15 s produces as good if not better racing than EL/PL because the youngster are raw and go where angels fear to tread.I prefer NL U 15s because of the unpredictability of it.Many ofthe young riders give far more commitment to their racing for very little or no money. It saddens me that so many so called "fans"belittle Nl/Second half racing.Where are our Kennetts,Harrises and barkers going to come from if ALL fans start to support and watch the youngsters.

  16. The worrying decline of youth speedway continues.

We used to have 3 qualifiers, then we reduced it to 2 semi finals, now we are down to one "semi final" and the final.

There are a number of clubs trying to help to young British riders, but unless there is a National setup as well the decline will continue.

We must invest in the youth NOW.

I totally agree Nikko but when Team GB members have to buy their own team kevlars it beggars belief. You cannot expect a sporting body who do not fund their own national team to fund young British riders.

  17. Comments like that really bug me. There is equally good and poor meetings at all levels. I watched all three, four if you include the GPs, levels of speedway last season and enjoyed them all at times and half switched off at times at all of them.

Prepare to be bugged because 9 out of 10 it is right.

  18. Spot on Dave . When Glasgow tried to run a junior side , two men and a dog turned out to watch it . Similarly the Dale Devils , though relatively successful , came to an end because it wasn't financially viable to run them with the crowd that would turn out at Armadale on a Saturday afternoon .

Seems Newport's NL side is also under some sort of threat too , according to the report in the Speedway Star . We all might bleat about young British riders not getting a proper chance , but when it comes to actually going out to support them - it's a different story .

Some of the problem is that there are fans who will not watch any thing but EL speedway, thinking it is the best thing since sliced bread and anything below is inferior but nine times out of ten PL/NL is better.

  19. Wy must we change the rules every year, the National League run pretty good last year. The only thing i would like changed is the guest rule i know we try to give young riders a chance but due to some riders having to work teams must be allowed to use a guest. Its not fair on the paying puplic to put riders in just to make up the numbers. Our league is the best and i dont want it ruined by stupid new rules like the other two leagues every year.

I do agree but the BSPA dont do rules very well
