  1. When Mark Loram won the world title, it was over a long period of time and showed he was the best rider that season amongst other superstars. Gary Havelocks was a one off meeting, when as we know if a rider has a super good gating night he can win it whatever and all that proves he was the best rider of that night. There is no comparison here at all. As regards the other riders you mention, being a Witches fan I should know all about Chris Louis and Scott Nicholls. Neither have ever won a world title and quite honestly never looked like winning one. Chris was great at foxhall with a fantastic average but away his average never went above a 7. Scott is better generally than Chris was but his lack of gating ability and poor equipment and chosen mechanics have cost him dearly Im afraid. Chris Harris I love as a rider he is so-so entertaining and joy to watch from the back. But honestly to class him above Mark would be a joke as he has achieved nothing and in my opinion never will.

So"one off" World finals Were easy? There were qualifying rounds for the British championship. How long ago were they stopped? There were so many PL riders in the British Championship this year there were so many moans on this site about the inequality of it.Tere used to be a European Final,Intercontinental final and a whole host of other rounds .Probably for a Brit 5 or 6 Rounds BEFORE the World Final so not so far off the meetings for SGP

  2. I was talking about the best match I ever saw.I thought the England v USA in the 80 s was best ever.4 riders going hammer and tongs the majority of the time.Sadly cannot remember many of the riders or the score.I do remember that Arlington had the most dirt on it I have seen.It was from the kerb right up to the fence. There were so many racing lines it was unbelievable. It was so well prepared that it looked like someone had finished it off with a rake.Believe it or not no hint of a blue groove.

  3. I see people mentioning their tracks Speedway Star seller, at Blantyre we had Rab Bryceland in his white coat standing at the turnstiles shouting at the top of his voice......"Speedway Star!, Speedway Mail!....... programmes!!!" Then near the end of the season he would lay out all his old Stars on the ground for sale and all the kids would be rummaging around looking for the best front covers. Also remember buying old programmes for two pence from future Tigers team manager Ian Steel who ran the Tigers Den up at the fourth bend.

    The Scottish Best Pairs Championship

Sunny Sunday afternoon meetings, although Friday nights were best and always will be.

Walking to the Stadium in the wet, hoping the red and white striped flag was fluttering up the pole at the entrance, which meant the meeting was on.

Riders wearing their sponsors body colours during the second half.

Every visiting team having a support there.

Kids running about with a coke can on their foot acting as a steel shoe.

Going for a pee round the back of the small stand at Blantyre One and trying to negotiate all the corrugated steel piled up behind it.

Watching meetings from the bookies stalls at the back of the stand.

    DICK Barrie................nah, on second thoughts <img src="http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_smile_tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="icon_smile_tongue.gif" />

Going to Canterbury to "support" the northern teams.

  5. Joe had a go but Shane was poor to be honest and as a pair they were by far the weakest in the field and finished up 5 points less than IOW as the lowest scorers.

With so many notable absentees the field was somewhat dimished but congratulations to Plymouth, they top scored in qualifying and beat Kings Lynn 7-2 in the final so they were deserved winners.

That said, they could have been pipped into the final by the Hornets duo who needed a 7-2 in their final heat to go through. All looked good when Todd and Tony gated on the Bournemouth pairing and seemed to be heading out of turn two in first and second but Tony got sucked into the fence and was excluded (sorry, disqualified  ) as the cause of the stoppage. With that went the Hornets' chance and Plymouth went through. Tony's frustration was plain to see as he thumped the air fence and trudged dejectedly back to the pits with his head bowed. Not one of Tony's best days but he has been excellent for the Hornets this season so he can be excused a slightly off performance.

Simon Lambert was the pick of the individual riders with an unbeaten 16 in qualifying but was beaten in the final much to his frustration.

Adam Allott and Nicki Glanz were the other two who showed well today and if Craig Cook had been available for Buxton they would have walked it.

All in all, not a very good day's racing with not much in the way of overtaking and the track a bit bumpy and dusty from the off.

So, congratulations to Plymouth, they deserved the win.....but, where are you Devils fans?
