This is why I've never agreed with the 'any speedway is better than none' brigade as bad speedway can do more harm than good in the long run.

Similar to all motorsport then from what I've seen.

Team Captains...Those That Perhaps Don't Immediately Spring To Mind?
Sotonian replied to steve roberts's topic in Years Gone By
Alan Wilkinson captained Belle Vue without ever being their top rider. -
I'm sure Joe Owen did 4 in a row in his second spell with Newcastle and also that he won all 4 - the last 4 races of the match. Maybe v Mildenhall but just guessing now.

Are vulnerable people the only ones allowed to have deliveries then? I must have missed that directive. -
My ears are too sore to continue wearing one after 4 hours but I wear glasses and ear defenders too. I've never had sore ears wearing the latter 2 only. On the plus side, it means I can only work half a day onsite.

Having a year out of the leagues is not the same as coming back from being defunct though. -

Poole have run every season since 1948. The nearest they came to closure was the short open season of 1957. PS I assume you mean inactivity or no activity! -
Devastated to read this on the same day as another of my heroes, Peter Green died too. Condolences to Jean, a special lady indeed. RIP Wilkie, the ultimate Team Captain.

I can't remember when fixed gate positions came in but if they were in effect in 83 then it's Cradley for me.

In 1954, Golden beat Lessiter in a run-off after both scored 14pts.

Rest of the GP series
Sotonian replied to james1234's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
How can a GP that's never been staged (Russia) be one of the most popular? -
With the odds of speedway not returning until late in the season, there seems little prospect of a GP series. So, could this year's champion, if there is to be one, be decided by an old-school one-off final?
-
Means nothing then as its not theirs to sell.
-
Do you mean Poole Council as they are the stadium owners.
-
Milder maybe, but the last one was one of the wettest on record.

I thought it was the Sydney Sports Ground where he was killed, not the Showground.

Um, turnpikes ARE streets, albeit originally with tolls! -
Who is going to develop and build these engines for a single domestic market?

It's been confirmed by his Father on Facebook that former Workington, King's Lynn, IoW and Peterborough rider Tony Dart has sadly passed away. Tony suffered horrendous injuries in 2001 but still managed a track return with substantial metal in his right leg. He eventually had it amputated and, even then, manged to continue racing sidecars. RIP Tony

Ah, the hypocrite Murray Walker. Some years ago, the Wimborne grasstrack club were seeking a new venue and were offered land somewhere near Fordingbridge. The village locals were having none of it and one of the most vociferous opponents was one M.Walker - yes, the very same.
