  1. What a shame if a real showman like Steve Johnston cannot get a team place this year.

It is looking very likely that Steve will not be seen in the Premier League in 2011.

You'll find a thread about Steve in the Speedway General Discussions section under the title "Thanks Jonno!"

  2. The following is a posting I made on the brummies forum a while ago, it was tongue in cheek, (and still is) but hmmm I wonder :P lol

I'm beginning to think this is one big con by the bspa to get PL teams to move up, consider these points -

1 invite brum - ok thank you very much we'll join

2 cov and pboro throw their toys out their prams - EL in crisis

3 bspa send begging message to KL to come up and help save the EL - KL say- ok we don't wan't to move up really but if it helps save the EL we'll do it

4 cov and pboro say - ok we were only joking we'll run next year

5 bingo! nice expanded EL for next season

    Kev.

Knowing Tony Mole as we all do, do you think he's that daft?

I'll confess to being biased in his favour as he saved 2 clubs that I supported from going bust but I reckon he's got his head screwed on the right way.

  3. Maybe it is a case of, for example, Eastbourne being able to use Bjarne if they vote with Poole. As it is mostly the top teams that own the better assets, any notion of "Vote for us or forget about using our assets" could be very persuasive?

Fair point, Vog. But only a couple of weeks ago Poole were being accused of wanting the 8.01 rule so they could benefit from having 2 x 8 point riders (Holder AND Pedersen). That's been proved false (without a word of apology from the accusers!). Of course that doesn't necessarily prove your argument wrong.

  4. You could be right EW - it could have been others exerting pressure on CVS and Mr. Ford - on the other hand - it COULD have been CVS and Mr. Ford putting pressure on the others. It may have been neither of these scenarios. I was just trying to make the point that Democracy has to be a free Vote. As I said in my earlier Post if any pressure was applied to anybody - then that is wrong. As you rightly say the pressure thing has been a reoccurring theme on this Thread - so - I thought I would just add my take on Democracy.

    Hope that helps. :)

This isn't directed at you WK but what pressure could be asserted against anybody? What hold do Ford/CVS have over everybody that is so terrifying? This isn't an argument for either side (so no abuse please) just interested to know what it could be.

  5. Sorry Steve - you are wrong on this one. IF undue pressure was put on other Promotions to Vote a certain way - then that is wrong. That would mean that the ONLY way to protest would be to walk out. I am not suggesting that this is what happened - I don't know, neither does anybody else except the Promoters, we weren't there - but if it had I might have walked out too and so I suspect would a lot of other people. Even in a democratic Vote there needs to be fairness and equality.

Not criticising your post WK but what is this undue pressure? It's a recurring theme but I don't get it. Who could get away with putting pressure on the likes of Uncle Bob and Jon Cook?

Unless they were the ones asserting the pressure on Ford and CVS?

  6. You've lost me there..

What biased opinions do you allude too - please enlighten ?

And as you have acccused me of being abusive to you - I would hope that you explain yourself.

    Most disappointed in you EW..

I wouldn't invite you to my AGM :D

Don't worry if I did come to your AGM I wouldn't bring my toys to chuck. :D :D

    Guess that's a truce then :P

  7. I don't know if you have ever met Rick Frost but speaking as a neutral I can assure you he is a very nice down to earth guy. Whether you agree with him on this issue or not it is unfair to categorize him as someone who just treats the sport as a toy. He is enthusiastic about the sport and his heart is in the right place even if some of his decisions could be classed as ill-advised. Speedway is lucky to have someone who is prepared to plough that amount of money into the sport, and contrary to what some people have said on here I don't think he sees it as loose change.

It should be possible to disagree with someone without demonizing them.

Unfortunately I've never met Rick and I have no doubt he's a nice guy. He's certainly improved a very, very bad situation at Peterborough. But the fact that he CAN afford to lose so much money suggests he can use the sport as a toy (if he so wished). Other clubs are not in that fortunate position and have to cut their cloth to fit.

Now if the Matt Ford/CVS haters who hurl such foul abuse at them (and have also probably never met them) would show a little restraint the forum would be a happier place.

  8. Consider this EW...

PBoro and Cov walk away because things were so untenable (for them)..

Swindon and Poole (together with Cov & PBoro) wanted a 45 point limit..

Eastie, BV and Lakeside wanted something considerably less..

Where does that leave Wolves - silently very happy ?

EW - why have you made so many posts in such short a time (going on and on and on) ?

EW - who are you ?

Is it not possible to make an argument without abuse? I dislike your biased opinions intensely but never resort to abuse.

  9. But there are many on here - and I suspect in the larger world - who believed that use of force or money was instrumental in that vote in the first place. If that were the case - not asking you to say it was - would the vote be valid?

You talk about money but consider this. Sandhu and Frost are very, very rich men and probably used to getting their own way. Are they not expecting to get their own way in this situation despite a majority against them? A man who can allegedly afford to lose 140k a year is using the sport as his toy.

  10. Assuming Cov (and hopefully Pboro) both return to the EL for 2011 whether a compromise has been made or the original AGM rules remain - surely we should accept the fact that the outcome has finally been resolved 'amicably' and that all EL members of the BSPA have kissed and made up.

I would suggest that should this be the case we should all be able to live with it too...and if so, roll on March 2011 (despite the points limit)...

There's a very good chance that none of us may be happy with the outcome but, as supporters, we have to live with any decisions taken today as we had no input into the goings-on of this close season.

The scars of this winter might never heal either on this forum or at the BSPA but if we get a hot, dry summer with some great racing (and hopefully a British world champion - come on Chris) it'll hopefully take our minds off it.
