  1. i must admit i never considered the old TS rule a problem and i dont recall anyone objecting to it either in the SS or anywhere i think the 'pointless rant' comment is a bit uncalled for actually - i wish we were a bit more polite on here. I include myself in that

"You can water a product down but you are still going to have to pay certain riders what will be seen as “market value”…." of course that is correct but a rider asking unreasonable money should in theory be easier to replace if he is not a world star and yes certain non star riders will suddenly become quite attractive to teams there's always going to be haves and have nots - there is in any sport but we'll soon be at the stage when the EL will consist of 4/5 teams - there has to be a way of embracing Berwick, Redcar, etc in a competition and it has to be at their level not Poole's, however that is achieved Don't forget this may only be a temporary situation - the sport could begin to market itself better, make sure trackes are properly prepared and it may grow again in which case we can go back to Div 1 and 2 (and 3) Does anyone have a better realistic proposal

i heard this argument in 1968 and 69 when 17 (I think) new tracks opened over the two years- that was about 120 or so new riders found them alright and found more when injuries occured and would this time

SCB has offered an opinion - nothing more. My opinion differs but i haven't got the energy to slog it out with blinkered people - I'm just stating reality as i see it. We can't afford to go on as we are. There are answers - use juniors, smaller teames, etc but i can't be arsed arguing

you are right to drop it - you'll get nothing but abuse trouble is you're totally correct too many deluded folks on here still think we can afford to have GP riders in our league teams in front of 4/500 fans yes you could fill teams with stars like Swedish and Polish leagues and hope the fans come back but no one will take such a financial risk in the current climate prune the thing back and build from there and I'm dropping out of the argument too before the bully boys come in with personal attacks
  6. ok we'll just leave it then
  7. i think you were near the mark when you said the sport was uncool - it certainly is there isn't one thing wrong - there's loads - guests, du, jokers, whatever not saying that getting rid of the above would bring people back for sure but something has to be tried as a former business person i would say that number one issue is control of costs businesses that fail to control costs always fail - always thats why we have so many accountants
  8. the promoters will like that - they'll be better able to make ends meet R/R, new signings - not easy i admit either find an answer or forget team competitions
  9. it is simply not credible to ride for two teams in the same country - end of argument really. Long time fans may accept it (though i never have) but we need a new audience and they will not accept it i'd rather teams got hammered with their own riders - it happens often enough anyway
  10. yes but the audience was not so sophisticated we used to swallow meaningless challenge matches and second half races called 'Devil take the hindmost' and sing 2 4 6 8 who do we appreciate but that was 30 years ago - people won't put up with the amateurish crap we did
  11. you would need to drop any pretence of meaningful team and league competition and just run open meetings, pairs competitions, etc

Exeter - A Glimmer Of Hope?

I had a soft spot for Cradley Heath RayStadia but I'm a Middlesbro lad as Tsunami says - just trying to be helpful - it is a forum you're right and you can say many things. You can even run a lame joke about Slough for about 3 months but you can't make serious accusations of dishonesty. And you did. Why the mods haven't responded - you need to ask them. Perhaps they're not fully aware of their legal obligations. Anyway despite all of the above i really wish Exeter all the best - and Cradley for that matter - two proper speedway towns

Exeter - A Glimmer Of Hope?

to be fair it probably was used for the venture but ran out - legal fees are high regardless of whose money it is. I'm not quite sure what you are trying to get at but without evidence I'd leave it there if i were you

Exeter - A Glimmer Of Hope?

i believe the sum was around 250k and although that's a handsome sum it doesn't go far on legal fees

Exeter - A Glimmer Of Hope?

the money will have some kind of executor who will have to give permission for its use so its unlikely anything illegal has occured as SCB has ponted out - you can't just say what you want in public

Exeter - A Glimmer Of Hope?

you must have at least a basic grasp of the law have you heard of libel or slander? Silly remark to be honest

Exeter - A Glimmer Of Hope?

you do know that saying such things on here is akin to saying them in public and may render you liable an extraordinary thing to say

    Berwick Statement

unless the issue of costs is urgently addressed this scenario will repeat accross the leagues
  19. doesn't look to me as though he ever went to school
  20. I know it sounds stupid and simplistic but can't bikes be designed to not disintegrate with mechanical failure - my car doesn't do this??? Isn't this one of those things that should be looked at for costs etc

    very good point indeed

Premier League - Too Big A Step?

To be fair there are 2 PL clubs in Scotland, 1 just outside and several more within 2/3 hours drive I would not have thought it was an issue what may be an issue perhaps is the lack of a Linlithgow type facility and a NL presence

    Belle Vue National Stadium

i'll certainly be making the pilgrimage TWK you would be welcome to come along - i'll just nip through the tunnel and get you
  24. pl fans have to get used to employers from el making them miss meetings
  25. well i can certainly remember riders being given time off to sit mechanics exams, etc and Geoff Pusey tearing over the M62 on a motorbike to make a 730start at Cleveland Park because he had to work riders used annual leave or had understanding bosses
