Stoke Potters Sadly, The Perennial Failures
ch958 replied to iannewsman's topic in National League Speedway
how does it happen that a once first division side (many years ago admittedly), regular NL/PL competitors in the second tier end up as also rans in the third tier. As a neutral who knows nothing about the circumstances i keep waiting for them to rejoin the PL -
i'm not offended i just want the sport to be credible - i don't want to be embarrased by mega bonus double pointers, jokers, etc, etc i agree promotion at a local level is generally abysmal and that needs to be addressed i also agree with the start again from scratch comment but i suspect what i have in mind isn't what you have in mind as far as i'm concerned semi pro with mainly British riders is the way forward - riders people can identify with

and more passing and more excitement and more people and more money hopefully! -
what you say is of course true but many many people think this was not a fair outcome. It certainly seemed not to be a cut and dried case from what i read and although i do not condone rape or even infidelity there seemed to me scope for reasonable doubt as to his guilt. I wasn't at the trial i know but it was widely reported. the fact that people are disagreeing on various forums shows that a different jury may have reached a different conclusion we have a current young world speedway star who found himself in not dissimilar circumstances not too long ago and his outcome was different. Besides the only link to this forum is Charlie Webster and she has shown herself to be rather hypocritical.

yes the win at all costs attitude has been a bad thing generally - obviously its nice to win but chopping and changing teams every 5 minutes and bending rules is a modern phenomenon in the main and hasn't been helpful. it will be easy to pick this comment off - its not the only reason for the sport's decline - Mr Rising mentioned another, continuity, and thats not the only reason either - its a few things, maybe dozens.

you prove he's wrong

scumbag....inbreds you seem like a nice balanced guy there are 2 (at least) current pro footballers who have killed people using their cars nobody denied them the right to move on after sentence is served
-
I read she tweeted the other day that she'd run into Mike Tyson and was annoyed with herself because she didn't get a photo or autograph Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist whom she obviously feels is allowed to live the rest of his life after serving a sentence http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/oct/18/charlie-webster-quit-sheffield-united-ched-evans-return

He and his ilk are one of the problems though It isn't one thing you know it's dozens

no i am grasping it and i understand that Europe wide it would be hard to get agreement how about this: if you want to ride in UK you use the cheap bike as specified for the rates on offer - if not ta ta Cost cut the engines and we won't even notice i do agree about marketing, etc but you're asking for investment for that and i doubt anyone would want to risk it and of course - market what? - crap tracks, guests, bog hole stadiums, micky mouse rules, etc etc
-
Poland's a different country, a different culture - the Polish model might not work here - clubs don't own their own stadiums in the middle of cities for one thing - they probably don't have the Nimbys we have I'd rather it died than turned into some kind of WWE freakshow for der kidz
-
yes cos the sport would be much better if the bikes did 120mph
-
sorry i think its nonsense that the product would be watered down - its not actual speed that matters just close racing i've said many times before - the tech side is very much second place to most fans - teams and riders come first
-
two seperate posters on seperate threads have said more or less the same thing: Whats the big deal with the OTA? I myself only went once and i thought it was quite boring - straights just not long enough Am i and my fellow posters missing something?

Who will take the lead? Current promoters are interested only in their own businesses not unreasonably I suppose. independent body very badly needed. -

whoever suggested the play off final to be the day before the Cardiff GP had a point - it would be quite possible if we got better organised and maybe moved Cardiff back a week or 2 say theres 8 el teams - thats 14 home meetings to finish by end August - doesn't seem too difficult nearly 5 months after the season start a match like that could attract 15/20 000 the night before the GP or even the afternoon following -
i know it can not always be helped but given that elongated meetings repeatedly comes up that fans hate them and would turn off first timers perhaps clubs should be given time limits and penalised if they exceed them. Or maybe it should be the referees and start marshalls who should be given responsibility- maybe both should be given powers to penalise ditherers more. Plus if a race is stopped within the first lap the pit door does not open!
-
yes i did correct myself on that and you are quite right - should have known better than to raise the issue really but i had read so many rave reports and then a couple of posters elsewhere said they thought it was over rated then i remembered my own visit so decided to canvass the wise and good on here. On balance i am happy to say i'm probably wrong going by what most (but not all) have said. I guess the matter should rest there.
-
to be fair its hard to take a contrary view without appearing to be negative - i suppose boring's a bit strong but i never saw much overtaking cheers tho
-
thanks for the replies chaps - i only went once and that was in conference days - didn't mean to sound negative i just wondered what others thought

just an opinion old sport - you can only say what you see

Speedway Star - Can I Have My Money Back?
ch958 replied to Rob Lee's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
yes this last point is a problem. Why don't they ask interested parties to write articles and make it clear that it is the writer's view and not necessarily the view of the mag. Perhaps a letters column to express such opinions - emails can be recieved within minutes of production and the magazine is purely acting as a forum
