    Scunthorpe Scorpions 2018

I would swap Auty for Tommy Jorgensen and then thats a decent 1-5. I agree we need a broom through last season and to start anew. Broc Nichol would be a gamble but certainly one worth taking if he was on a 5.00 ? Then a NL rider at the base of it. We know Rob is very loyal to his riders but that in many respects has been our undoing. We do need an out and out No1 Worrall would give us that. Both TJ and Jake Allen can both step up and have great seasons in 2018. Nielsen is a good rider at this level proven round the EWR. Lyager is one of the up coming Danish talents and has shown snippets when he was over here two years ago that he can be a talent in this league for us. If we do manage to take our place in the Championship next season we have got to be competitive home and away and I am pretty sure with that line up we can be.

If we do run we'll go for riders who can ride the EWR. Jorgensen; Allen; Neilsen would be a good base. You have to think Auty will be back not least because it's his testimonial season. Although personally that should not detract us from wholesale change. Lyager would be a good call as he has shown on numerous occasions he is on pace in the European U21 meetings and maybe one of the next breakthrough Danes ?. Aarnio no because he didn't seem happy with the Scunny track from what I heard last season. Bickley no chance hes off to Workington.Berge ? not sure he's on a near 7pt average and he bombed at Berwick last season very early on. I would go for Davide Bellego from Swindon in preference. All depends on points limit ? Will there even be one of sorts ?. Jack Parkinson Blackburn might be worth a punt at the bottom end on a 2+ average if we are scratching around. Should know more by the end of the month but one things for sure Speedway has got to start and get its act in orde If not its hard to see how Scunthorpe can sustain against the falling interest and attendances and the shutters could very likely come down for next season at least. Hope not.

Well done to Rob & the management for securing the services of Jake Allen. He's a racer no doubt and is one of the current wave of Aussies doing well in British Speedway. If we are talking to the Rebels about our riders - Lewis and MPT then I would have definitely had a reciprocal conversation about Jake Allen. Will be a added spur for Ryan racing with his compatriot too. We need to move forward from here; get behind the team and enjoy the remainder of what has been up to this juncture a testing season. Welcome Jake and all the best for your time with the Scorpions.

I wouldn't give a monkey's if we get Rohan Tungate happy days if we do. I would not put this past Rob by no means; he does say that's the rider is one the fans may not have thought of. Well I bet most of the Scunny faith full wouldn't have come up with this !. Tungate may well fancy it having missed a chunk of his season having been dropped at Somerset. Again there have been discussions with the Rebels promotion over the use of our riders so it's a conversation to have for me ?. Tungate would give us a proper No1 rider on a low average. Look guys speedways bonkers so Auty and Tungate team mates not the daftest idea I've heard in this game by a long chalk It gets my backing if it happens for sure !

You know what Dande you could be on to something; his average in the Prem for Somerset is 5.07 and supposedly we 6.13 to play with. How much do we have to factor in to convert a Prem to Champ average ? Might fit ? and given the that Lewis & MPT have gone the other way to Somerset; it is a conversation you might have with the Rebels promotion if you were needing a rider at Scunthorpe.

Rob said in the Star; that the rider in question is one that we (the supporters) might not immediately think of (or words to that effect). Alex Davies back ?; he has been riding grass track this season; so is not coming in 'cold'. and could come in and get the 6-8's around the EWR. He did say on twitter last week he was waiting for the call to get back in. ?

I don't like all this uncertainty over the team. I am sure the rider's don't either ; I really am concerned that we are going to come out of this regretting decisions and finding that the answers were right under our noses all the time. #wearebetterthanthis

We probably should not be taking gambles on complete unknowns. This team change has to bring in proven ready to roll re-enforcements otherwise I cannot see the point of it. Kennett for me; I thought about him being a Southern based rider; then reminded myself he used to trek up to Berwick so commitments permitting Scunny would be a breeze.

    Scorpions 2017

Ian; I like Lyager but I don't think it is the right time for him. We need almost an instant fix to reignite the season; and for me that has to be a complete change of direction with the team. A pukka No1 rider to go against the opposition No1's Kennett would be a great choice; and I would go for Manzeres who has put himself in the shop window for a PL/CL team spot. Those two really up our game; but beside Wilko who else is leaving ? #NoLoveIsland
  13. thebaron

    Scorpions 2017

That's your man ...and the second change is a bonefide No1. Edward Kennett ? Just got a place at Poole but could double up. He goes well round the EWR.
  14. thebaron

    Scorpions 2017

Well there's a really great option who is available. Average fits; World Cup rider; proven at this level; got the x-factor in terms of supporter appeal; a racer and has made it known hes chasing a PL/CL ride. Infact; there's no reason why you would not to sign this rider ? Oh hang on though there might be one ?

Here's a response I stuck on the Redcar v Scunthorpe thread earlier to a comment by Scunny2012 Scunny2012, on 13 Jul 2017 - 10:10 PM, said: Was going to go to this match, pleased I didn't what a disappointment, Scunny outclassed again, seems like the home match and win over Newcastle just papered over the cracks and gave the supporters false hope, many changes needed to be competitive away starting with a genuine no.1. Exactly the same here; we were going but then thought it through and came up with at least a 20pt reverse on a track none of our riders seem to go well on. Given that Wilko and Auty are former Redcar riders you would expect better ?; Ryan has never sorted the place out; MPT too not a fan of the Pwima Awena ; chuck in 1pt from JB (who is exonerated from criticism by the way); and Tero scraping around for 2pts and we're left with 13pt out of 32 ! from Lewis Kerr or else its a total plastering ?. Cannot fathom this at all ? - say it time and time again ..we're better than this ...but we rarely are?. Rob's nailed his colours to the mast - no changes; were sticking with it to the bitter end; and to be fair I'd probably do the same at this stage. There's still a decent 1-7 there somewhere ? and there's always Berwick worse off than us ? so we can avoid the wooden spoon. Look; I back the team come what may; but there has to be tangible change next season and I do not just mean at Scunthorpe. Speedway GB has to take a long long hard look at this set-up and come up with a plan that amounts to far far more than rebranding a couple of Leagues !. EVERYONE (and that means promoter; riders; BT sport; us the FANS - everyone) is deserving of better than the current state we seem to have landed in. Lets get back around the table and come up with a cohesive plan for Speedway GB for 2018. 1. Merge the Leagues ! - there's simply no point to the Championship-Premier idea - the two leagues have the same riders in them. 2. No doubling up-guesting that's killing our interest. Lets put the 'identity' back into team speedway. 3. Transfer windows please !; one 1st June and one 1st August other than that you declare your team and stick with it (injury aside) 4. Can any one explain averages ? no me neither ..scrap them bring back rider control ! 5. Leagues merge and guess what ?- all of us get our day at the National Speedway Stadium ! cracking point of interest for fans of every team the idea of an away meeting at Belle Vue ! I could go on.

  17. In order to establish a more stable framework (pardon the pun) for the riders and more identity for teams; and consistency for the fans. I would propose that for next season we introduce two Transfer Windows. On the 01 June and 01 September a team would be permitted to make one change to their 1-7. In all other circumstances a change to the initial declared 1-7 would only be permitted for reason of injury (the rider being assessed as unavailable for at least 1month) and/or actual retirement from the sport. There is far far too much swapping and changing of riders between the teams; including the use of guest riders. This makes a farce of the sport and is actually one of the things fans hate. Team identity is important; and it should not be the case that as soon as a rider is a bit out of form that he is jettisoned for another. There should be some level of commitment on both sides of the fence to the team originally declared by the club. Affording two Transfer Windows is more than adequate opportunity to effect a change. If as I say a rider is 'long term' injured or retires then special dispensation would need to be sought to bring in a replacement outside the transfer window. It would place a good deal more emphasis upon Clubs to make informed decisions at the outset of the season; knowing there are fewer opportunities to make changes. Also it affords riders a fair period to establish their form; and work out their equipment and build up rapport and loyalty with the fans. There was nowhere near the swapping and changing in the 70's-80s goodness me had there been surely Scunthorpe would have ditched the entire 1-7 in 1972 when they were being battered to bits home and away. But they stuck with the team pretty much the entire season !. Also; crucially we have to be prepared to merge the Premiership and the Championship for at least one season to gain some stability and consistency at each club. This season is a complete farce the amount of times riders are appearing for the different clubs and at the same track week in week out. I realise there is not a endless supply of available riders but I am convinced that it is having a negative impact on attendances and interest. There is so little difference between the Premiership and the Championship; as to make no difference at all. ! Riders would also be busier with their clubs operating across a expanded League; and the ridiculous 'doubling up' could be moth balled. We have to try to join up the dots on speedway; and overall the structure and rule book so it makes sense to those of us who back it whatever; but more importantly for those we want to hand it on to for the future.
  18. Bit harsh Fozzie; Wilko's done his bit for the Scorpions overtime. He definitely deserves our respect; in fact that's a given for every single rider that puts himself out there !. I know if you in it; then that makes you fair game for the criticism and all that - same in every sport. But sacked on the spot ? - never and I am sure Rob would not do that. There might be a conversation to be had; and lets be honest not just with Wilko; but that's for the management to have in a proper respectful manner.
  19. In the Star, he states we might need another change. In the telegraph, he states Gino has no gear ready for racing(not sure what or whose gear he is using at the World Cup) There's an answer to that; Get Him Some ! surely we could sort that out at a push ?
  20. With Rob threatening a change in the Star; last nights 28 point reverse at Ippo will have only convinced him further. I still stick to it that this team is better than its results have shown; but we are right out of the key ingredient - confidence. That's a must in speedway; loose that and its hard work. We do need to come up with a show tonight; but with Richie in for Diamonds and Kyle Howarth extending his "EWR Track Residency" we could be in 'balls up' territory again ? (though hoping not; obviously). Howarth is quality around Scunny and its is beginning to look more and more like a top artist 'Vegas Residency' the number of times he's rocked up at the EWR this season !. Book him permanent I would. The Change ? - well what can we do to change this and bring a smile to faces and get some mojo into us for what remains of this difficult campaign ?. Tell what I would do ?...Have a look at one of the US World Cup team that's what - Gino Manzeres is desperate for a Premier or Championship club and he would definitely liven up the show. Entertaining ;bit of a US poster boy and real have a go racer on 6.02 when he last rode over here for Ippo - that might come down a touch ?. Come Eileen give Gino a call !

Gutted for Stefan Nielsen; surely curtails his season ?, but gives some certainty to Tero who has covered it really well in Stefans absence. We have to carry on; and with the two Josh's back in situ; the team looks stable again and we can push on.

Tell you what ? some of what Terry Hardaker came out with at Bradford 80s-90s wouldn't have passed. Right now I can hear Terry delivering one of his classics involving a local corner shop & some fireworks; that had us creased up laughing on the terraces and I am still laughing sat here !. RIP Terry - legend. Rob at Scunny's nearest you'll get these days; occasionally irreverent; un-PC and entertaining to listen to when he is on his game. Always calls it as it is.

This period minus a regular No7; has made me appreciate Josh all the more full respect to all the riders who have stepped in for him; but it has been up hill for sure. So I am looking forward to Josh coming back; no pressure and just getting back into his stride and enjoying his racing. If he hits 2-3pts I'll be pleased and we all should be.
