Soupy, I agree entirely with you, it was obvious to most people Newcastle needed a genuine number 1

rider rather than using guests using BWD high average, this situation was not sustainable and if a new rider

could not be obtained then that was the time to call it a day.

Once upon a time, it would've been an honour to be a 'Diamonds' no.1,,, things change. For whatever reason?

Do you think he would of ever made a number 1 as the twice I seen him  he looked more like a 3rd string and that is being nice.

I thought grant would of binned it after the Glasgow fiasco rather than sort the track out and that was to no one’s benefit either.

Just another waste of time and resources? ;)

I also think although allegedly there was only 350 for Leicester, even though we were getting hammered there was still 550-700 for other matches with Glasgow, Redcar and Berwick bringing quite a few down.
The crowds this season didn’t seem any worse than previous seasons really.

If you had a view of the crowd from the back straight, you might've thought differently. Lots more grey on show and, am not talking about hair, just concrete.

Even with 800 fans, you need to take the children & a lot of adults out of the equation when it comes to putting £1000 into the Newcastle fund.

'IF' there was a crowd of 800 fans regularly, (including children),,, things may have panned out differently?

I meant last season as in arranging a meeting to get people together on how to keep us open.

This year I am not sure how we would inform everyone of a meeting taking place as obviously a lot of the fanbase won’t be on here, Twitter or Facebook.

    Paper aeroplanes, or pigeons? ;)

I agree.. something like last season needs to happen but it was easier to do with official websites etc still running to inform people.

What's the point of a website, if the place isn't actually up and running?

Am not into 'tech' that much, so how do you keep everyone 'in the loop'?

I meant like more in ideas of keeping us open. Getting a proper meeting together. Contacting businesses and previous sponsorship etc.

A social 'get-together' would be a good starting point IMO.

Getting folk together could be another problem?

It's good on paper but I've seen it fail in another sport for one basic reason even with the very best intentions of most involved.

Your 200 most passionate fans contribute a sort of contractual amount monthly or one off.

Obviously though some of them want a perk or benefit for that, such as free or reduced admission. Human nature is also that some of those will want to act like "King dick" and saviour but probably want to come in free and end up paying no more than if they just went to every match and paid.

So if your average and budgeted crowd is 500, but the core 200 are getting in for free or on a discount as they are contributing to build or save the club, your actual paying crowd is 300, and you are quickly back where you started, not enough in, too much out and disenchantment.

Sugar daddy's are few and far between and sponsorship and advertising will be desperately hard to find with the economic crisis and rampant inflation and increased interest rates affecting everyone.

    Good post.

I agree.. I was hoping maybe the Supporters Association would of tried to organise something, or at least put these ideas forward or any ideas they had. They could keep peoples money safe in their bank account to.

Didn't the supporters association/NSSG try and organise a memories night, but even that got ditched through lack of interest?

Got to dream and have hope… Probably won’t happen but who knows further down the line.

Teams like Redcar have shown it can be done.

'Ambition is Critical',,, would be great to see speedway back, but IMO,,, as a city centre sport in Newcastle, its not looking good. If a new site/track is required, it needs a 'driver' to get it there.

Pulling folk together is gonna be a big hurdle, (previous folk have tried),,,

If someone can generate the momentum, al be in.

Did I not hear that bellway housing has first refusal on buying the stadium and car park if it ever comes up for sale

Dunno, but maybe the speedway fraternity can get together and 'out bid' they're piddily offer?

RD, I think that if Brough Park did come up for sale, I forecast that the price would far exceed what a group of

Speedway Fans could afford and not forgetting the charges for the daily running of it.

Aye, am inclined to agree with you there, it might need one or two more than 99,,, but someone might win squillions on the lottery?

I assume we'll get hoyed off the Championship page now the season is ending. However It would be good to have somewhere to exchange views... memories are fine but a "memories night" sounded a bit final.

If anyone fancies a couple of beers to talk about how things stand (even if it results in acknowledging the inevitable) I'm sure we can work something out.

Where do you have in mind? ;)

  14. On another sad note and mainly for the older generation of fans.

I would like to mention the sad passing of Jim Rickerby, after a long battle with illness. A fan of the Diamonds from the 70’s onward. Attended his last meeting in 2011 but was always a follower of the Diamonds.

If anyone can remember travelling on the supporters bus during the Ian Thomas era, Jim was probably driving.
