  1. really hope they dont do this. The scoring system they have now is perfect. if they think top 8 qualifying is too many, then why give wildcard everytime to 9th and 10th? But again, trying to fix something that is not broken, every rider in next years line up is in the top 20 or so riders in the world, I would argue noone is missing who is in the top 10. No issue with winner of SEC getting a place, I would also be ok with world u21 champ getting a place, but just reduce wildcard to 2 or 3.
  2. what are the team building rules I.e. limits on overseas riders, 2 u21 poles at reserve?
  3. I agree he had more talent, but when you look at what he achieved vs say what Kelly did (noting both came 4th on world final debut as a teenager) I'd say Kelly's was a bigger waste - not far off talent wise, but no comparison in terms of achievement. Darcy is a tough one - clearly he lacked professionalism in his off track activities- but he was still young, and injury robbed him of his chance of redeeming the earlier missed opportunities- and you could argue that signs were there that he was maturing. Equally you could argue had he not shown up to that GP well over the limit, he could have been world champ that season, which is right up there in wasted opportunities. And Darcy is for me the most naturally gifted rider I've seen (too young to have seen Lee's teenage years other than via youtube), though happy to acknowledge Lee to be a greater talent.
  4. 3 world titles. Better gater, better round first bend, nearly as good from the back, not as good at team riding, but overall I'd argue slightly more complete rider given the importance of the start/first turn. you could argue PC was the most talented rider of his generation but potentially underachieved, whereas Tai would rank below Emil and Darcy for talent, but his focus and commitment has seen him be more successful.
  5. I'd say K Moran and Ward would rank higher. Lee did become world champion and make the podium twice.
  6. Lee, Collins, Craven, Woffy, Price, Williams, Havvy, Loram. tricky tbh, at least for me assessing "potential" of williams/price

    Favourite Rider of All Time

As a kiwi lad who grew up watching the Aces at Hyde Rd in the 80s, there can be only one choice: Larry Ross if expanding to ten favourites, I'd add Mort , Smudger, PC, the Moran brothers, Tai, Emil, Darcy, Bewley.
  8. well, you just needed to go back and add up the lists? from what I can see 7 people provided lists, based on that the order is: 1. Craven 2. Woffinden 3.Collins 4. Lee 5. William's 6.Price 7. Loram 8. Havelock

    2020 Wildcards

would be my choices as well. Think the Drabik spot may go to Michelsen or Lambert though, but personally think Drabik or Smektala are more deserving.
  10. yes and no. Carter didn't have the natural talent of Lee (has anyone?). But he was better than Lee in 81, 82,85 , 86and pretty close in 83/84. Maybe that says more about Lee's decline? Carter in 82 was arguably as good as Penhall, and Penhall is certainly regarded as same class as Lee. Agree 100% on the similarities.
  11. 1. Woffy 2. Craven 3. Collins 4. Lee 5. Williams 6. Price 7. Loram 8. Havelock Tough choices between the two PCs for 2nd/3rd, and Loram/Havvy for 7th/8th, rest reasonably clear imho.

  18. should be able to pull out the Aces one later today Sid. pretty sure Andy Smith beat Lee (from the back!) in heat 11 if my memory is correct.
  19. yeah in fairness Muller was the only of the continental riders in that era who was genuinely in the top 20 riders in the world. Look at the riders he finished ahead of in 81 at Wembley. Would never have got close to being world champ under a gp system though.

  21. genuine question: would u rather have Tai as world champ and the struggling donestic product the uk has; or see Tai miss out but team GB dominate internationals and the UK undergo a resurgence with the domestic competitions emulating the polish leagues?

reality yes. but theoretically you could qualify for every final with 4 points. so 9 points a round. i think it's theoretically possible you could win every round and finish 15th overall!!!
