    Anglian Youth League

Probably not the answer you want to hear, but no. Riders must be 15 years old and it is actually called Anglian Junior League, never has Youth been mentioned. It has been mis posted in this section and everyone should look at the BSPA website for conformation. Great work by all concerned to get official recognition for their efforts.
  3. Following many delays in the warm up meeting which Berwick won 52-41, the Northern Junior League Riders Championship was finally staged, albeit in a shortened version. A special mention for Rachel Hellowell, to whom James McBain will be eternally grateful for laying her bike down in order to avoid the fallen rider. Everyone who witnessed the event was agast at the speed and professionalism of her manouvere. After 4 qualifying heats, Connor Coles, Liam Carr, Peter Johnson and Gary Flint emerged as the finalists. From the tapes Flint and Johnson gated well and held position for 2 laps, but Carr and Coles were in close proximity ready to pounce. On the third lap Carr edged round Johson and on the final bend of the final lap and using the wide out dirt for drive flew past Flint and became the YOUNGEST RIDER TO WIN THE NORTHERN JUNIOR LEAGUE RIDERS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE. Liam is only 15 and Connor 17, so the League is achieving its goal to bring fresh young talent through, with the aid of some more experienced riders to compete against. Many thanks to the Berwick promotion and all the sponsors.
  4. On 8 October following the Premier League warm up fixture between Berwick and Newport the 2nd Northern Junior League Riders Championship will be staged. After a spectacular and successful event last season, Berwick have kindly agreed to stage it again. The riders nominated by their clubs will be (in riding order): 1. James Cartmell (Redcar), 2. Liam Carr (Berwick), 3. Gary Flint (Edinburgh), 4 Adam Kenyon (Halifax), 5. Peter Johnson (Redcar), 6. Rikki Anderson (Berwick), 7. James McBain (Edinburgh) & 8. Connor Coles (Halifax). Each rider will contest three heats, the top four scorers then going to a final. Each finalist will receive an award. Please support the event and many thanks to the Berwick promotion.

  6. Parsloes 1928 nearly is 100% correct. Both teams are giving opportunities to up and coming talent. Obviously Waco would prefer same old every week with the no new talent. Everybody is always shouting about opportunities for English riders, yet here one exists and some people dont want it. Shame on you people who cry about no chances for new talent yet heres one, but it`s watered down. How the hell are they supposed to get a chance if iut isnt for fixtures like this. Hopefully the new riders on show will make a mockery of all the negativity posted. Even if they dont time is on their side. Good luck to those who ride.

    Buxton V Stoke

Excellent win today against a top team at full strength. During a difficult season, with many a loss at home Stoke could not adapt. Bearing in mind it is a difficult track, all the opposition riders have had previous experience at Buxton and varying success. So a well deserved win and credit to all who rode, Thankx for the entertainment.
  8. Just read on the BSPA website that this match will take place and it`s freeeeeeeeeeee
  9. Dont really understand what Scunny1 is saying This is a combined effort between 2 promotions......I Think!!!! Better it is than nothing.........but WHAT DO YOU WANT...... Scunny1?

    Mildenhall 1980

During the Golden ERA of Mildenhall Speedway they ran junior matches during the 1980 season. Looking for any details of the teams and riders. Thanks.
  14. I have recently received a book written by Sprouts Elder, published in 1930 called the Romance of Speedway. In the book, the forward is by Colonel the Master of Semphill, any offers on the identity of this man.

    Stoke V Team Viking

It is great to see scores, but who was riding for who? Not so professional and we need in light of the BSPA fiasco to enlighten the public that we can do and provide a professional service

    Halifax 1928-1929

Thank you for the date Norbold, it made easy for checking the Halifax Daily Courier and Guardian for report of the meeting. Racing at Thrum Hall was the first cinder track motorcycle racing venture of the Halifax and District Motorcycle and Light Car Club. About 5,000 attended the meeting, held under Arc Lamps. (First floodlit meeting). After the lack of passing on the first meeting the track was widened by 2 yards at either end to the delight of spectators who witnessed thrilling Australian riders on their visit to the track on 23 August 1928. The Aussies named as `Stewie` St. George, Keith McKie, Skid Skinner and Geof Taylor heaped praise on the organisers and quoted as saying, the best track in England and similar to those down under. Skid Skinner broke the track record 3 times in the evening and won the team race for White City Tigers against G.L.Reynard of Yorkshire Wolves in 1 minute 37s Several further meetings June 13 & 30. Aug 23 & 30. Sept 6, 20 & 27. also took place
  17. Posted Yesterday, 11:22 PM bw double, on 15 January 2011 - 08:32 PM, said: Last year up north they had JUNIOR LEAGUE ,BUT COULD NOT FIND ENOUGH RIDERS TO RACE IN IT.Berwick had to field Jonathan Swales and Peter Johnson,Halifax had paul Burrnet and two girl riders,so if they cant find enough to fill these teams how are we going to find them for National League teams. If you get ridd of Aussies ect just take Buxton as a example they will loose Morris, branford, they also loose cook and if Belle Vue run it looks like they loose Garrity.so buxton will be looking for four riders,Bele Vue looking for a team Stoke ,milden hall,thats25 plus all others who loose Aussies.so thats about 30 riders who can put on a show.were the hell are they coming from? ps sorry for shouting it was a mistake. Well it`s great to see the Colts looking at a comeback, remember them at Hyde road when they swept all before them and then at Rochdale. Wonderful years and what about the riders they uncovered, possibly a lot of posters dont remember them As for the above post, please post facts and not what you think you know . The Northern Junior League was the success of the season, set up to give novices and riders who could not get a National League place a chance to ride . Mr.Swales and Mr.Johnson actually rode for Redcar. Mr. Burnett was the experienced rider to help the novices from Halifax, who actually fielded 4 riders who had not ridden in competetive matches previously. Finally the Girls who rode more than did justice on their appearances, one scoring a paid maximum. Do not be-little the efforts of people trying to enhance the sport at lower levels, they make the higher levels possible with rider progression through the leagues.

    Halifax Nomads 1948

During research about speedway in Yorkshire I came across a few sketchy details of a team racing under the name of Halifax Nomads. Having reached a impasse on the subject, possibly someone can shed light on the teams few fixtures or even the existence of a programme involving them?

    Mildenhall 1980

It looks as though so much more riding opportunitys were available in that period! Was informed today that at least 2 full matches involving the fen tigers juniors took place during the season, is that correct? It`s fantastic the amount of information the forum members supply and it is all appreciated.

    West Ham

Take a look at the last meeting at West Ham. Sad that so many London greats have gone. http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=72944
  22. Their is no doudt that Jason Garrity is the most exciting prospect this season in the WORLD OF ENGLISH SPEEDWAY. Be he a raw talent or not,he must be admired. Having watched his progress over the last several years, he must be given credit. Yes his over exhuberance does warrant caution, but he wants it more than any other UK rider. Hats off to the lad and lets get behind him, love him or loave him he`s English. What do you people want?

    Nlrc

If common sense had prevailed, then the obvious decision would have been to hold a double header on the saturday. Provision for sunday if a rain off occured. All in all would have suited a far wider audience and a large crowd. The expense for the fans has not been taken into consideration. Simon Lambert for NLRC and Buxton to take the Fours.
  24. Heard about the meeting that took place on 14/09/10 but cannot find any details about what the meeting consisted of or any results. Anyone any offers?
