Northern Junior League Riders' Championship
dukes replied to glycerol's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Anyone who has seen any of the meetings must be impressed. This league has given the opportunity to some old hands to bring along the next generation. Each team has helped the other team one way or another. Yes everyone wants to win, but what this league has done is lay the foundations for something bigger. All credit to Berwick Speedway who have foresight in the future of British Speedway and they will be succesfull. Unfortunately the favourite to win the title will not be able to take part, best wishes to Gary Beaton on a speedy recovery. Hope every rider enjoys the night and a good attendance enjoys spectacular racing. Finally to the brains behind the Northern Junior League, congratulations it has been a success and long may it continue. -

Arne Pander. Remember Kid Bodie, Soren Sjosten, Split Waterman. Their are some fantastic names and they were all great entertainers.

We had some real entertainers at Halifax over the years. Tommy Roper was a fearsome fellow. Mike Hiftle with his leg trailing style was great. Henny Kroeze Mr.Entertainment. Charlie Monk Mr.Sour King Kenny says it all.

Depending on which way you arrived at the Shay, it could be the Shay Hotel, Shears or even the 3 Pidgeons. Personally I was at the Shay from 1965 till it closed its doors on speedway and I was lost to the sport for a time. I remember the likes of Boothroyd,Boocock,Roper,Elliot,Kentwell all the way down the years through the Pusey, Lohmann brothers and That man who should have been World Champ. Yes Kenny Carter. Remember the mechanics race with Arthur Forrest every year and that enigma of an announcer Mr.Adams-=. He was Great. The crowds, the atmosphere, everything their was great...................................... Memories?

Bit strange Speedway in Nepal, maybe supporters in Nepal as in Turkmenistan. Met a few in Pakistan and India also. They have a rickshaw championship in Nepal but its 3 wheels.

Going back when we had a team at Halifax their was a trend to bring over some pretty dodgy foriegn riders. For what ever reason they got preference over some good juniors who became lost to the sport. We once had a fellow called Jan Graveningen, or Mr.Magneto trouble. Remember one meeting he never made it to the tapes, the announcer (fantastic one at that,Duggie Adams) had us in stiches.
