  1. I remember when a certain Mr Pavett left Somerset Speedway for dead owing money left right & centre to people who tried to help him, Ok the club was saved by the Hancock family and a consortium of businessmen and I know that it cost them an arm & a leg to keep speedway going at the OTA & God bless them for doing it. The problem came when myself, the St Johns Ambulance & various other people who where owed money by Pavett applied to the BSPA to be paid for the services that we had provided, we where informed that they where only concerned with in house debits that being monies owed to the riders, the referees and the BSPA/SCB fees and that we should approach the new promotion and request payment, there was no way that we would do that as it was not their debt, I tried on a few occasions to get my money through the County Court, but we could not find him, ok I was only a few hundred pounds out of pocket but as a small business that was a lot of money to be owed. but the St John Ambulance and other people where thousands of pounds out of pocket. so what ever the Birmingham promotion offer you treat it with the contempt it deserves because at the end of the day whether carry on promoting or they fold there is going to a lot of people that will not get paid and a few business's will fold because of it and do they care, do they bollock's
  2. Can see Masters & Frick take the pairs title north of the border they are all, as a team, on the crest of a wave and all are hungry for silver wear for the trophy cabinet
  3. Forgive me for being an ignorant plonker but I am confused the about the “fast track reserves” in the elite league, the way it was explained to me was that Each Elite League team would choose a reserve from two lists of selected riders That these riders would then remain at reserve for their team for the duration of the season That each fast track reserve would be guaranteed his team place unless unable to ride through injury It seems to me that a good few reserves have been dropped Tom Perry & Lee Smart have already suffered this, I take on board that Lee has now retired from the sport but this was hastened by the fact he was dropped by Poole and Tom Perry was absent through injury and now he has been dropped by Leicester and Ben Reads retirement was brought on by him being released by Belle Vue. Surely it is hypercritical of these clubs to promise these lads the opportunity to improve their game then get rid of them within a few weeks , what damage has this done to the confidence of some of the other reserves
  4. The only people who have to sign in that they are medically fit to carry out their duties are the riders who will be participating in the meeting, the only criteria that affects all persons involved in the running of the meeting including track staff and the medics is that there is a ZERO tolerance to alcohol & social drugs and in fact any member of staff from the Promoter to the track raker can be tested for drug & alcohol use. As far as the use of mobile phones is concerned I always carried mine with me to speedway & grass track meetings mainly to inform the nearest A&E unit and the ambulance control for that area that a meeting was taking place and inform them how many competitor's where taking part and the level of medical cover we had at the track together with my name and my registration number Why has a new thread been started to carry on knocking the Paramedic, it has already been explained that he received some bad news about his family, and as a Paramedic for over 20 years I have seen first hand, how shock can affect people in different ways, what would your reaction be if you received news that there was a family crisis, I would want to get to my family as soon as possible to the exclusion of all others. Give the man a break his family comes above everything else, even speedway. The person who should get the stick is the person who started all this with an unqualified post on a social media site and all of the sheep who followed his lead
  5. To start with Mr Lawson deserves to receive the same punishment from the SCB as Sam Masters received for a lesser offence
  6. If the message was posted on Twitter before, during or after the meeting is immaterial the post was made and even if it has now been deleted the damage is done, Look what happened to Sam Masters his season was to conclude early, when he received a 28-day ban from the Speedway Control Bureau following comments he made via his Facebook page after making a guest appearance for Rye House against Scunthorpe at Hoddesdon on 2 October.
  7. The Doctor or the Paramedic is answerable only to the referee or the BSPA & SCB not the promoter or the clerk of the course but in saying that I hope that the people on here & Twitter or Face Book have a emergency fund at their disposal because if the accusations that have been made against the Paramedic are wrong then there could be a lot of summons to appear in court in the post very soon, But if the Paramedic was found to be intoxicated then he will have to answer to the Health Profession's Council (Paramedics ruling body) and will invariably struck off the paramedics register and banned from practicing as a paramedic for life
  8. I am a Paramedic and have been for over 20 years now and I have been the CMO at various speedway tracks and grass tracks and I know first hand what the costs are ........
  9. It would be great if a backup Paramedic or Doctor where available but the cost is prohibitive for most tracks & you can’t expect the Paramedic or Doctor to reduce their charges as their overheads are also very high, to have a Doctor at a speedway meeting that Doctor must be B.A.S.I.C.S (British Association for Immediate Care) trained which is over and above their training as a Doctor to add to this they must have malpractice cover and all the equipment required to perform their duties Essential equipment costs around £2,000, but experienced immediate care doctors will usually have between £10,000 and £20,000 worth of emergency medical gear and if the truth be known a Paramedics kit could well cost about the same and on top of this they both have to purchase the drugs necessary for resuscitation and analgesia and some of these have a very short shelf life. I agree with you that the minimum cover for each meeting which consists of 1 Doctor or Paramedic - 1 Ambulance + trained crew & 4 first aiders is not enough and needs to be reviewed as soon as possible because, as we have seen lately, if an incident occurs and due to injuries sustained a intravenous drip is set up or the patient has been given an analgesic injection then the Doctor/Paramedic must accompany the patient to the nearest trauma unit which could take a few hours and the meeting is lost

    Fast Track Riders

No particular team just a general speedway fan advancing in years
  11. If they insist that one ambulance is enough, (9 times out of 10 it is) then there should be a first aid room equipped to the standard of an A&E ambulance where patients can be treated and/or await the arrival of an NHS ambulance, But if the Doctor is required to stay with the casualty either in the ambulance or the first aid room then racing will have to be suspended until the Doctor is available or if there is a fully trained and registered paramedic and the ambulance is free, then the racing can continue

Devils V Panthers Fri June 6th

But the winners by an aggregate of 8 points where PLYMOUTH It seems that Peterborough can Talk the Talk but can't Walk the Walk
  13. can't see that you had reserve failings as your reserves scored 4 paid 5 between them, yet the visitors had a none scoring reserve and a RR so effectively they had a 6 man team yet still only lost by 2 points. in my opinion the Panthers where complacent that they could thrash the lowly Devils, but speedway is a great leveller as a lot of teams have found out to their cost. but it looks good for the return match at Plymouth
  14. It has been muted that volcanic ash is a good material to use on race tracks as the particles do not become water logged and stay separate which could be the base for a “water proof track surface” When dirt deflectors were first introduced the machine examiner would check the distance from the bottom of the deflector to the ground with a measuring gauge as supplied by the powers that be, but in the last 5 or 6 years I have not seen any deflectors checked and like most things if it is fitted properly then it will perform correctly
  15. It was great to see this update on Ricky on the BSPA site today ONE of the most important tasks undertaken by the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund in recent years has been to provide support for the Ashworth family while they deal with the aftermath of Ricky’s crashes last season. Now, Ricky’s dad Dave and SRBF organiser Paul Ackroyd feel it is time to give his many supporters a more detailed analysis of where the young man is today, the progress he has made, and what might lie ahead. Ricky is still in hospital receiving rehabilitation which is still a huge task, 91 days asleep is a very long time and it has left its mark. Dave says: “It’s safe to say that the old Ricky has gone, we now have a new version." Unfortunately the severity of Ricky’s injury has left him with severe ataxia (a group of neurological disorders which affect balance, coordination, and speech). Ricky also is battling with potentially serious myoclonic spasms in his face, these are painful and dangerous if they happen when Ricky is eating as his throat is constricted and foods can then choke him. This is a big hindrance to progression towards Ricky being discharged as he has to be in hospital near the equipment necessary when eating in case of a choking episode. His consultant is constantly working on this condition trying to find a drug that will calm this problem down. Paul Ackroyd said: “His dad and his family have been by his side every day since his accident. They are continuing to help Ricky bounce back from the low moods by telling him what a miracle he is to everyone and how much support he has from speedway fans from all around the world. “Ricky is now allowed home visits for a few hours at the weekend, though he has to return for mealtimes. It is great to see how relaxed he is back at home by ordering stepmum Pam around and through the banter which has returned between him and his sister Jade. “I visited Ricky last Saturday on his home visit and we sat in the garden. He still has a lot of personality and we had a lot of banter. He has maintained the interest he has always had in motorcycles from a technical point of view and was still talking about clutch plates, engine compressions and the technical details of the speedway machine. “He pointed to his van too, and where it has become a bit rusty. He said ‘It wouldn’t have got like that if I’d been here all the time!’ “Every time I see him, I see improvement and Ricky does something I haven’t seen him do before. Perhaps that isn’t so apparent to his family who see him every day. “I asked him what message he would like to send to his fans, and to my surprise this is the response I received: ‘Thanks to all my fans, friends and sponsors especially Ian Hunter from Sheffield Window centre, he’s been there from the start. Also John Todd for finding me sponsors. ‘I’m still not myself yet, but hopefully I will be soon, I’ve got the right team behind me. I hope I will be going home soon and hope I will be able to get to a speedway meet as I am missing the banter and smell. I would like to thank everyone who went to my benefit meeting at Berwick, I’ve watched it about 10 times! Just wish I could have shared a beer with them all especially the 2012 group. Thanks for all the hard work from everyone involved.’” Ackroyd finished by saying: “The family are still totally focussed on giving Ricky the best opportunities possible, and are working closely alongside the Hospital staff over his rehabilitation. “They are now in a position to plan what will be required when Ricky finally does return home.” The SRBF remain custodians of all the monies which have been raised for Ricky.
  16. This is NOT the case Peterborough Speedway have a contract with the owners of the East of England Showground and that contract should include a section which should say something like " In the event that a function or event is held prior to the contracted day of a Speedway meeting the premises shall be left in a fit and proper condition for the commencement of the Speedway meeting as per the contract"

    Wake Up Plymouth

Have no idea of the whereabouts of Jake Anderson but James Holder is living in Dorset and I believe he is racing karts these days but I am sure he could be tempted back to the shale, better the "Devil" you know
  18. May be the name of this thread should read " Who is the most disliked or mistrusted promotion in the Premier League" then some of the riders can take part ...
  19. While I take on board that the Sheffield promotion are still “Wet behind the ears “as new promoters they should have a mentoring promoter to guide them through the rules & regulations of promoting a speedway club and staying within the rules. Berwick should place a complaint on file now & not wait for the return leg the illegal granting RR for Ty Proctor as he hadn’t ridden for the club or for Adam Roynon who was sacked by the club, this is a matter of principal that the rules are adhered too not to see if the aggregate score requires a complaint I think that the Speedway public deserve a statement from the BSPA explaining their actions in this charade
  20. Why was the facility of RR allowed for Roynon when he had been sacked and not out injured or deemed to be withholding his services
  21. Heat 13 and Somerset lead by 30 points not the sort of meeting to get new supporters
  22. Somerset to win by about 10 points. Ipswich always seem to blow hot & cold at Somerset so an away win is very unlikely
  23. Swindon v Birmingham is rained off so Morris could ride if needed
  24. Maybe Adam will get fixed up now he is without a club but why should he always be the fall guy, or maybe add to his future contracts " Signed for the club but only until we find a better rider or a rider in the team fails to achieve in either case you will be replaced". And as for the new Promotion of Sheffield proving that they will not be tolerating poor scores....harsh maybe but very far from true! Roynon down by 0.72 Poole down by 1.55 points That's 0.97 points more than the rest of the team

    Plymouth ?

Just a month into the 2014 season and with not the best weather in March & April, but here we go again with the David Short scare tactics just the same as he used at Exeter on so many occasions. Come on David give it a fair crack of the whip before you scare everybody away to other tracks like Poole or Somerset
