  1. Stead has dropped 0.04 points Roynon has dropped 0.72 points Nielsen has dropped 0.21 points But Poole has dropped a massive 1.55 points. So why not take a closer look at Taylor Poole's performance. Before I get shouted down and told that Roynon has dropped 2+ points per meeting these figures where taken from the BSPA site and are the sign on green sheet averages and the GSA that take effect on 01/05/2014
  2. Sheffield has gone from a club that was respected by most riders & fans even if they didn’t do well in competition they still had a decent following, but what have they done this season to gain the respect of the people who put their hard earned cash into the Sheffield coffers first of all they dispensed of the services of David Hoggart (Bad move IMO) and now they sack Adam Roynon, No problem with Proctor but is he that much better than Roynon to warrant his sacking, I think not. The future is not too bright for Sheffield, gone from a professionally run Speedway club to a professional Speedway Club run by an amateur promotional Team led by Master Bates
  3. How can you be stunned that was not bad refereeing in fact it was good refereeing because the CMO had advised the referee that Ellis had been withdrawn by a fully qualified Paramedic who is registered with the Health Professions Council and has gone through a lot of training before, during & after his/her Paramedic qualifications. If a paramedic is in charge of the medical side of a meeting then the paramedic assumes the roll of the Chief Medical Officer, if a Doctor is also contracted to attend the meeting then that Doctor must be B A S I C S (British Association for Immediate Care) trained and not just a GP from the surgery down the road That is a comment that could attract litigation both from the promoter and the paramedic concerned and not the sort of comment needed on this forum
  4. At the end of the day the rider, the riders team manager & the referee are each given the medical officers certificate of withdrawal and the reasons for withdrawal with a time scale of how long the rider should not consider racing, the riders copy must be presented at the next meeting the rider intends to compete in, the certificate should be signed by a Doctor prior to the meeting or be examined by the CMO at the track. I would assume that the CMO issued to the rider before he left the medical room and also gave the team manager a copy at the same time. I know from experience that the rider, and at times, the team manager think that they know better than the CMO and as I have told a good few over the years “I do not tell them how to ride a bike or manage their team. Then please do not tell me how to do my job”. In this scenario I would hazard a guess that the CMO saw something that gave him cause for concern hence the action taken. In my time as a CMO I would sooner take the flack for withdrawing him from a meeting than explaining to a coroner’s court why I didn’t take this action

I feel that a lot of these keyboard crusaders take pleasure in knocking a successful team like Somerset or Poole not because they hate the team, promotion or the fans but because of the team’s success they think they have carte blanch to ridicule all concerned, maybe it their team’s where to have a lot of success then they might come in for the same treatment. The one thing that can’t be knocked is the fact that Somerset & Poole have a rock solid promotion that care for their riders and let’s face it not many riders complain about pay & conditions with these promotions

    Jason Doyle Visa

Jason Doyle was number 1 for Somerset and number 1 for Birmingham at the same time
  8. I was involved in speedway & grass track as a CMO for many years and I have been on the receiving end of abuse for not letting a rider carry on or accused of removing a visiting rider so that "my" team could win. In speedway I have dealt with all injuries from a dislocated little finger to multiple injuries on a rider including complicated fractured femur, fractured pelvis, fractured spine & severe internal blood loss, Believe me what I posted was fact, there used to be too much of it & the medical crews used to be treated as a necessary hindrance because the rule book stated that they had to be there I know what I am talking about in fact I could write a book on what I have seen and what I have been subjected to and in some cases by managers & promoters that are still involved today
  9. Maybe before you all start ridiculing James Wright you should look back over his riding history. Now I am not a speedway historian but if my old memory serves me right, I think that he went through a spell of having accidents at various meetings and being removed from meetings suffering from concussion, now a lot of people will say “so what it’s just a bump on the head” but it is more than just a bump on the head. Maybe before you all start ridiculing James Wright you should look back over his riding history. Concussion can be a very serious injury to a rider the effects of which can last from 24 hours to a possible 2 or 3 years and until recently there has not been any ruling regarding the management of such an injury and a rider could have been severely concussed in a meeting tonight and still ride the next evening and no questions asked. Thankfully now there are rules in place to protect the injured rider in particular and the other 3 riders on the track at the time whereby the injured can be removed from the meeting by the Chief Medical Officer for a period of 24 hours for very mild concussion to a minimal seven day suspension and will only be allowed to resume riding after a normal neurological & neuropsychiatric evaluation for moderate concussion & for severe concussion carries a one month suspension and only return when they have no symptoms at rest or after exercise for one week and a normal neurological & neuropsychiatric evaluation this will also include a CT and MRA scan. I believe that James was suffering the long term effects of concussion which affected his riding ability

Bring back Greg Daniels, not a great rider but he could certainly make the OTA rock with his music presentation
  12. I note with sadness that Nathan Stoneman seems to be missing from any team this season. I understand that he had a bad leg injury about 18 months ago but haven't seen him on a bike since, if I remember right he was a good rider and rode with maturity for one so young and it would be a shame to lose a young lad who had so much potential......

To represent your country in the under 21's at world level is the highest level for a young person to attain in any sport at junior level, and just for the record when have you represented your country at any level. I understand that you are entitled to your opinion, but lets have your opinion with out demeaning those that have achieved the honour to represent their country

    Leicester 2014 . Elite

Taken from Somerset web page The ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels can confirm that their captain and number 1 from last season, Jason Doyle, will not be able to ride for the club in the up-coming 2014 season. Doyle, along with a number of his fellow Australians, fell foul of a regulation concerning the issuing of a new visa allowing him to ride in the UK this year, but following intense negotiations between the speedway authorities and the UK Border Agency, the riders concerned, including Doyle, could be granted a temporary 1 year visa that would enable them to ride, but that does contain possible limitations, as Somerset promoter Debbie Hancock explains; “Whilst the issuing of a tier 5 visa may allow Doyley to ride in the UK, he could be restricted to riding for just 1 club and not ‘double-up’ as had been the original situation as he was also going to ride for Leicester in the Elite League.” “After much soul-searching on the part of both Jason and ourselves, it has been decided that he should take up the option of riding in the Elite League with Leicester rather than in the Premier League with Somerset.” “Jason has qualified, by virtue of his 2nd place finish in the recent Australian Championships, for the Grand Prix qualifying meetings in 2014, which could ultimately see him lining up in the World Championship GP Series in 2015, it was felt that in order to give him the best chance possible to do this, he should be pitting himself on a consistent basis against top quality opposition and to do this he needs to be riding in the Elite League.” “As a club, we do not want to stand in Jason’s way of trying to further his career, especially given the loyal service he has given to Somerset Speedway and the success he has helped to bring to the club over the years and we wish him and the Lions every success for the year ahead.” “Obviously this meant that we had to find someone to replace Jason as our number 1 for 2014, and with this in mind we can announce that Ty Proctor will be joining Somerset in a double-up arrangement with Elite League Wolverhampton.” “Having looked at the riders that were possible options for us, the main consideration was the fact that Ty would be missing the least number of matches due to any fixture clashes between ourselves and Wolves, which would help us to maintain a consistent line-up and not having to rely on using guest riders on too many occasions, plus with Ty coming into the team on a 9.22 average, it does mean that we would have a greater level of scope when the situation required us to use a guest rider.” “I am sorry that as a club we have not been able to keep our fans abreast of the situation regarding Jason’s visa and whether or not he would be riding for Somerset this year, but it has taken some six weeks for us to finally reach this stage of affairs, during which time intense and sensitive negotiations were taking place, which could have been jeopardised if we had released any information.” “But now the situation has been resolved and whilst it is not perhaps the one that we had hoped for, we can now put the matter behind us and start preparing for the start of the new season.”

    Edinburgh 2014

IMO the riders to watch this season will be Sam Masters & Justin Sedgeman both are very hungry after a season on the side lines and this can only help young Fricke to push his way past the competition and shine. I wish all of the Edinburgh team a safe and rewarding 2014 campaign
