  1. may be if the hierarchy in speedway was replaced by ex riders who are familiar with the every day problems with speedway  and the costs involved and the promoters could reduce the entry fee , we are not a rich country and most of our supporters are on a low income and a night at speedway may be the only family night out that they get, I know that when I was a child for me, my sister & my mother it would cost 5 shillings including fish & chips but the stadia was always full, maybe they should realise that even today less could be a lot more

  2. I would rather take Wright who is more of a character an asset and loves the club than Batchelor. Masters while he is a good rider has slagged the club off before and in the 2012 final wanted to ride for Scunthorpe just so we couldn't win it.

Doubt if you will ever see masters don rebels colours again

  3. Looking at the declared team and checking the averages with the BSPA site list of CMA and it seems that the total team points add up to 40.10, unless there is a mistake in the CMA list the team will not be accepted by the powers that be. here is the list that I checked against the CMA's. if I am mistaken then I apologise

Scunthorpe Scorpions Ryan Douglas 7.18 Josh Auty 7.01 Michael Palm-Toft 6.98 Lewis Kerr 5.98 Carl Wilkinson 6.12 Fritz Wallner 3.83 Josh Bailey 3.00

    Max Team Points 40

    Current Team Average 40.10

  4. are we sure Brad is ready for the top league next year, too soon I think, hope we have not gone big average at number 1, we need strength in depth first year in.

why wouldn't any of the riders be ready to race in the top league, lets face it most of the 2016 Elite teams consisted mostly of 2016 Premier riders and the teams that are signing last seasons elite league riders like Rye House are going to have a very top heavy team and no team at all if, God forbid, any of their top three gets injured.

as it stands I can see Somerset take a good few scalps with a slightly tweaked 2016 line up

  5. As an example, you had Tungate in your probable team. Tungate averaged 6.05 in the top league last year. He rides next year on an average of 9.03. Yet 6.05 x 1.4 is 8.47.

On paper, Tungate on 9.03 is a worse signing than Doyle.

I believe that the 1.4 adjustment only applies to riders that rode full time in the 2016 elite league therefore Tungate will ride on his premier league average of 9.03

  6. I wonder if we might see Chris Holder as the Somerset No1 not wanted by Poole who have gone for young Jack, I am sure that if Swindon can include Jason Doyle on a 13.41 average then Somerset could cope with Holders 12.53 assuming that Holder would like a Friday night track, and for his replacement for GP's then the new rules make it easier to get a suitable guest

  7. I feel that there must have been a budget problem before the start of the season.

No track can hope to survive with only 450 paying spectators coming through the gates and to this end I blame a lot of the fans who say that they will attend but when the team suffer a couple of bad results then they tend to stay at home, when the team are at rock bottom that is when they need the support of the fans.

Everybody was warned early last season that if the numbers through the gates did not improve then the future of Plymouth Speedway could be in doubt, now that the story has come true how many “True fans in waiting” will come out of the woodwork blaming all and sundry for the demise of the club when in actual fact their entry fee could have meant the survival of the club.

The promoters of Plymouth Speedway have bent over backwards to keep speedway alive in the city, we have lost Exeter & St Austell don’t let Plymouth go the same way.

Surely we could start a rescue fund, to bring our fans in hiding to the forefront and keep Plymouth Speedway alive, I would willingly start by donating £100 today who will follow my lead...............

  8. Thank God the SCB has finally seen sense and introduced an automatic suspension for riders who sustain a significant head injury in a track crash.

I have, over the years, seen riders concussed after an accident and they and their Team Manager has been advised by the medical staff not to ride, yet after 3 or 4 they are out on the track again.

A guideline was introduced a few years ago whereby the injured rider and his manager where given a notice that they should not take part in any meeting unless they had been examined by the track CMO prior to the meeting or produced a certificate of fitness to ride obtained from the riders GP and handed to the referee before the meeting

    Thank goodness for common sense

Having a visa wasn't my point in the post, I know the riders mentioned are EU riders, having a visa has nothing to do with any rider from Europe or Australia & New Zealand coming over and riding for clubs, when young British lads can do the job that they are doing, and maybe better, riders I mentioned I feel have had there chance, its about time clubs looked nearer home, and gave some of are British lads a go.

my apologies and I agree that British riders should be given every chance to prove that they can hold down a premier league position, but they must want to do the job in hand and not retire from the sport at the first sign of pressure.

We have had, and still have some great British riders, but some of the youngsters can talk the talk but are unable to walk the walk and until they grow a pair we will only have a hand full of British riders to follow in the tyre tracks of Jessop, Louis, Loram, Carter, Collins, Morton & Woffinden

Very true Shads, if he was he would in a PL by now.

I agree Mike, very bad decision.

All the spotlight is on the Australians coming over, they should be looking at other riders that come over, and do nothing, just take places that young British lads could take, riders like Nielson and Dilger will always be PL reserves, they should be looking at riders like them to, I don't disagree with them saying that they are taking jobs that British lads could take, but there are other riders from other Countrys doing the same thing, whats the difference what Country they are from, if that's the policy they are taking, some of the riders I have listed, are just taking in my opinion, places that British riders could do, and not be any worse.

    Alex Edberg 3.85.

    Victor Palovaara 3.00.

    Max Dilger 3.04.

    Rafal Konopka 3.00.

And even Jan Gravensen 4.14, who does well at reserve, but cant hack when he has to go into the main body of the team.

The riders that you have named are EU riders and as such do not require a visa unlike our common wealth brothers in Australia & New Zealand

  12. You need to read again then.

    It says "Breath and/or blood".

I believe that the breath test should be confirmed with a reading from an evidential machine and/or a blood test.

I do not condone Darcy's actions, but the FIM are just as bad by continuing to alter the date of his hearing, I get the feeling that the FIM are stalling for time for some reason. in my opinion any allegations should be dealt with within 30 days of the alleged offence being committed or the charges dropped

  13. With Benko now not coming over, it creates a big problem.

He has to stay at home to help with the family business. He was one rider that I thought would improve on his starting average.

Assuming Holder signs on a 7pt average, that will leave 7.64 for 2 reserves.

    Who now?

Todd Kurtz still available but his CMA may be too high

  14. I've read the above posts, and this isn't answer to anyone really but as I see British speedway; Its crying out for British riders to get to the top, be good enough to give us fans something to shout about, to be able to compete with the best in the world.. We've got to look after our own first, which doesn't happen! In the seventies we had loads of top riders. Without top riders watch our speedway go down the pan! Look at the old DVDs and take note of the crowds.

I agree with you all the way but Aussie tours by young England riders did well years back.

But the UK has been and always will be the training ground for the rest of the world, and when the European riders reached the top of their trade they dumped England like a bad smell.

But look at the riders that have been “trained” in the UK but have never made progress but where still employed various promoters thus shutting the English riders out in the cold.

Speedway is not an easy sport in any sense of the word, there are riders that are knocking on the door of being a true star but nobody is answering the door, it just seems that if their name doesn’t end in “ske” or “ssen” then they stand no chance of making it big in speedway.

In my opinion it is about time that European countries and Australia pay back the debt and offer our youngsters some skids and even a team trial, you owe the UK now pay up

  15. What the British riders need is for the powers that be to inject some fire in their belly's, maybe the BSPA could negotiate with Motorcycle Australia that as the UK has "Trained" up most of their top riders over recent years that perhaps about a dozen of our bright prospects could be invited to Australia for a test series of England v Australia with the full backing of the BSPA and the SCB, it didn't do any harm to the likes of Dave Jessup, John Louis and so on.

The only way to find a star is to put them in the position to prove that have the little round things to grab the chance

  16. For many years theOTA track was prepared in such a way that you could use the full width and still win a race, for the past 18 months it has become a one line track and is it a coincidence that in that time crowd levels seem to have become depressed. The track man, I believe has changed would be nice to bring Eric Boocock back for a couple of days to put it back a few years.

The track is the same for all riders it's just a matter of what riders adapt to the conditions fastest, it could be Somerset or it could be Ipswich or it could be both which could result in a draw.

No track ends up the same as it started, the lines can alter each lap then take into consideration the track grading after every four races, and if a rider has the balls to chase the dirt line then he deserves the win

  17. I reckon the Witches will put up a decent fight on Friday (as they did in the cup match at the OTA). However, if the track is prepared as it has been most weeks, the Rebels will be far too strong.

Not sure of the forecast for Friday, but if the track is soaked, this will be a leveller and will give Ipswich a real fighting chance.

Weather forecast for Burnham on Sea Somerset for Friday 10/10/14 is for scattered showers but with a 40% chance of heavy showers

  18.

So finishing 3rd in the PL, prior to the Play-Offs, and reaching the KO Cup Final is deemed unsatisfactory

If they progress to win either or both, will that still be seen as a "aged & negative". ?

We all hope that our respective club will win some silverware every season, but to expect it as a right by some on here, is being unrealistic.

I did not see my team win any national trophy for 18 years, but enjoyed watching some cracking racing up till then.

Must have been easily pleased compared to some on here who are constantly moaning if their team is not annihilating everyone in sight

I never said or insinuated that anything that Ipswich Speedway was unsatisfactory in fact they have had some very good results over the seasons and I take onboard what Chris is trying to do and I appreciate that most of the fans back him & John 100% and they deserve all the support that they can get, But I sometimes wonder if they get the support of some of the riders, which is something that is most times kept under wraps for obvious reasons.

I have known Chris since he was knee high to a grasshopper from when he used to visit tracks with John, who, like Chris was a class act on the shale.

In all honesty I hope that they can pull off a win at Somerset or at least take some points away and get back to winning ways, I know what it’s like for your team to have a lengthy drought, I was an Exeter supporter for many years but we came good in 1974 with the league title.

There was no malice intended in my thread just an opinion..........

  19. I feel that a lot of the Ipswich problems come from the higher management, you can have a team of world champions but if the right vibes are not forthcoming from above then negativity sets in with the team, I understand that a new team manager was brought in but was it too little too late.

Maybe Chris & John should sublet the promotional rights to someone with new ideas, not that Chris & John are doing anything wrong but possibly their style of promoting has aged and not moved forward enough with the times

  20. 1. Chris Harris (GB) - 3, 2, 3, 2, 3 = 13 + 1 THIRD
    2. Peter Ljung (Swe) - 1, 1, 1, 3, 1 = 7

    4. Oliver Berntzon (Swe) - R, 1, 2, R, 1 = 4

    16. Nicolai Klindt (Den) - 0, 2, 2, 1, 0 = 5

If the big names failed to qualify then they should not get a back door entry with a wild card the wild card system should be used give some youngsters a chance to taste the pressure of the big meetings and the young English riders like Worrell etc should be included for selection
