  4. COVENTRY are pleased to add another Challenge match to their schedule with a visit to SGB Premiership newcomers Rye House now agreed. The match at Hoddesdon will take place on Saturday May 6 (7pm), which was a previously scheduled date for a league encounter between the clubs. And it is set to be a major Coventry re-union as four of the Rockets team have ridden extensively for the Bees during their careers. Chris Harris (2004-10, 2012, 2014-16), Scott Nicholls (2005-07, 2009, 2012-13), Edward Kennett (2009-12) and Stuart Robson (1995-6, 1998-2004, 2013, 2015) all have strong connections with the club, whilst at reserve Robert Branford is a former member of Coventry Storm in the National League. As with the match at Wolverhampton on April 10, Rory Schlein will be appearing in the Coventry team in place of Kenneth Bjerre. We would like to thank Steve Jenson and all at Rye House for their help and co-operation in arranging this fixture. Share This: Facebook Twitter

  7. COVENTRY'S intended 2017 line-up will still be racing at Peterborough on Sunday March 19 - and supporters should note start-time is now MIDDAY. Full report from www.peterboroughpanthers.co ... PETERBOROUGH can confirm their exciting opening fixture of the 2017 will go ahead . . . and it's set to be one of a kind! The 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers welcome Coventry to the East of England Showground on Sunday, March 19. And the high-noon showdown, brought forward to midday from its original 5pm slot, will feature the full intended Bees line-up for 2017 until their recent pull-out from the SGB Premiership. That means top former Peterborough star Kenneth Bjerre, British champion Danny King, Jason Garrity, Lewis Kerr, Lasse Bjerre, Josh Bates and James Sarjeant will all line up at Alwalton. Peterborough promoter Ged Rathbone said: "I want to place on record my thanks to all seven Coventry riders for agreeing to be part of this meeting. "It is brilliant to have the full Bees team at the East of England Showground and it is likely to be the only time they ever take to the track together. "They are determined to put on a great show and I know they are all desperate to see as many Coventry fans in attendance as possible. "It is a chance for the club's supporters to be seen and heard, and we'll do our best to make it a memorable occasion for them. "It also has the makings of a terrific meeting and it will be a great test for our new-look team. "I believe Coventry would have had an outstanding chance of winning the SGB Premiership title with the team they assembled." Normal admission prices of £16 for adults, £13 for concessions, and £5 for children aged between 10 and 16 apply. Under 10s are admitted free with a paying adult. The change of start-time is to avoid a clash with Peter Karlsson's big farewell bash at Wolverhampton, which is also scheduled for 5pm. Rathbone is aware that some Peterborough fans may be keen to travel to Monmore Green for the send-off of a Swedish star who had two spells as a Panthers rider. Share This: Facebook Twitter

    Coventry 2017

Poole Pirates will ride against a Coventry team in 2017 despite the withdrawal of the famous Midland's club from the newly branded SGB Premiership. After a winter of much anguish for the Coventry Bees, who had hoped to temporary race at Leicester whilst rectification work would have been undergone at their regular home in Brandon the news last month that they would have to put their licence on ice came as a major blow to speedway fans up and down the country, but Poole will host a challenge meeting against Coventry on Wednesday 19th April. Explaining the arrangement Poole chief Matt Ford said, "Over the last 10 years or so Coventry have been one of our biggest rivals and there is no doubt that they are one of British Speedway's legendary clubs. There is no way I want to see such a big club be totally lost to our sport and, along with a number of other Premiership clubs, we will be doing our best to keep the name of this speedway giant alive. "We are honouring the original date in our fixture list of Coventry coming to us on 19th April and with just one change they will field the team they had initially declared when intending to race on in the Premiership. That change will see Chris Harris represent the Bees in place of Kenneth Bjerre and as "Bomber" has been a Bees regular in recent times then his inclusion seems most appropriate."
