'Speedway' away from dirt has many advantages. In theory, you could make more tracks, more cheaply. They would be less susceptible to weather and they would not require curation between races.

Tyres would obviously have to be different, but that's likely the main difference (and a different riding style). It's like tennis (or rallying) where surfaces are different but the sport fundamentally the same. Passing would likely be more difficult on asphalt, however you should be able to pack much more racing into an event, giving better value to riders and spectators.

Many years ago they tried silver sand on tarmac but it was not a success.

First initial thoughts. Worrying times for my club and I didn't see this coming. Let's hope a buyer is sorted. I stand with Dave Helmsley near enough every week and he's still passionate about the club so maybe he can pull a few strings and get a few parties interested. From the statement it sounds like the club on/off the track is doing fine which may encourage a new buyer. I don't think it's making huge sums of money but I think it's certainly manageable compared to other clubs. I kind of have mixed feelings on the whole situation really. I don't really know what to make of it. It says it's down to health reasons and if so it's the right call and health comes first. But it just seems odd to me.

The questions I have in my head right are ones I will have to be patient with.

Is there more to this than meets the eye?

Is it current state of British speedway played a factor that's encouraged this decision?

Has the change of race night cost the club money?

Who is interested in buying the club ?

Are we about to lose another club ?

What can the supporters do to help?

If any people inside the club that are on this forum please let us know of anything we can do to support the lions.

And no I'm not going to buy the club even though I think about every day if I won the euro millions!

i don't think that Hemsley would be allowed to promote the club after the fraca a few years ago.

I quite liked the idea of Swindon a few years ago when they had home and away kevlars quite unique for speedway.

Can anyone remember what year the old EL had the team suits but they were skin tight like Lycra they were awful!

Leicester had the first team suits and they were sponsored by TSB. One member of the team would not ware the - was it Malc Brown?

Never the less, IT IS STILL RUNNING. Well done to Redcar for allowing that to happen, and shame on tracks that would fall in the Midlands area, give or take a few miles, won't give youngsters the same chance.  I realise that they have to rely on parents/guardian taking them everywhere, so maybe that's the reason. But if it is, why does the NJL manage to operate okay?

Leicester are running in two leagues and therefore have no room to schedule extra matches for such as MDL.

Trouble with Leicester I’m told is the track is the lowest part of that area so when it rains all the rain rolls down to the track so not easy to fix  when had lots of rain

If the track is the lowest part of the area, why do I walk uphill from the car park to the track?

Tried to access Site today. Been fine all weekend, thought it was fixed - obviously isn't, as, once again I am unable to get on.

This isn't going to encourage any new prospective Speedway Supporters is it? It may well put off a few, including those like myself, whose only contact with Speedway these days is the Website or the Television.

Come on SGB - it looks amateurish - sort it out!!

I have had no problems since it went online months ago.

I've always advocated allowing referees to use their discretion and allow all four back where a 'racing' incident occurs. Too often we see two riders clash as they take different lines off a bend, and come together. How many times do we hear Kelvin etc call it a 50-50, and how difficult a call it is for the ref to exclude one of them. As it stands, a rider trying to 'race' is often penalised, yet we as fans want to see RACING!

I would go further, and where an incident occurs on the third or fourth lap, I would allow the ref the discretion to have a re-run with just the two who fell,  and they would fight it out for the positions they were in when the race was stopped. How many times do we see a re-run where the rider who was leading by a mile ends up missing out.  Should the rider who was well back in fourth spot be allowed the chance to win the race just because two at the front clashed?

Allow refs to exclude where a rider has deliberately brought off another, or just made a mistake and come off, but allow riders who want to race to do so. Speedway would be the winner.

Once upon a time, riders were not allopwed to change their line for the first 12 yards (if I am right). Does this rule still exist?

6 man teams would take too many slots away for riders....

The vast majority of whom DU now "to make ends meet"....

And their income will already be hit given the CL have halved the amount of league fixtures from the original plan, so taking away 7 places out of the Premiership would be too much for some riders I would think..

I do think that 6 man teams in the top league would be an opportunity though, just as long as the standard is kept to a "good level", eg 42 points is 7 points per rider, which would give decent meetings...

39 points, and an RS, is an average of 6.5 a rider plus the RS, so not too bad a standard I would suggest...

The RS list will be interesting to see...

Who gains and who doesnt?

Don't forget the complaints on here about the season not finishing on time.. You can' have it both ways.

While on the surface we can joke about this being a typically Speedway thing, worryingly this slack regard for deadlines is creeping into the sport more and more. The 2021 season overran into November. Once that horse had bolted it then became fine for 2022 to overrun too despite plenty of Speedway free dates in the summer.

We’ve now got an AGM overrunning when the entire purpose of the meeting is archaic anyway. The rules and regs should be sorted way in advance and teams can decide where they best fit into that system as opposed to a system that fits a majority of clubs at both levels and the rest then having to slot in where they’re least likely to go bankrupt.

If the sport wants to be presented as professional then it has to act that way.

Leicester finished their league fixtures on July 24th. They did not have plenty of free dates: the only free date for other competitions came later but no other team was prepared to fulfil the fixture.

I'm glad to hear the news,  but equally pleased to see so many keeping their feet on the ground, as bikes will not be roaring round Brandon anytime soon.

Quite simply,  there must be a compulsory purchase order placed on the site by Rugby Council, as Brandon Estates will unquestionably appeal the decision through the building inspector.  Any decision they make is absolutely final as far as I'm aware.

It's a well deserved reward for Jeff Davies and everyone involved with the campaign, but they've a long way to go yet.

I will say though having spoken to Jeff in the past that if anybody can get speedway back into Brandon,  it will be them.

I beleive that a new application can be made. This happened in our village when the inspector turned down an application. A new application was made and approved because the Council were afraid of the expense of a further independant inspector being brought in.

Just heard a strange one here..from what I've been told the picture that Leicester put up of busters amazing track work was a photo taken months prior and when buster turned up he saw it and said no chance and left it . So the king's Lynn track use was agreed a while before hand. Don't know how it is though

That info was published a week or so ago!
