  1. I have thought long and hard about the following response about me being one of the rose tinted ones on this forum.

I feel that my responses are generally fair and when possible factual. I am not blinkered in any way. Indeed I have said before that I feel the track at Leicester is not right and I have told DH this. Nevertheless, there are several factors which can create good or bad racing - the shape of the track, the racing surface, the weather and the riders themselves. During the 2011 season the racing was poor for most of the season but there was some improvement towards the end due to Glyn preparing the surface with the track slick on the inside and grippier on the outside and into the bends. I along with others expected the track to be altered during the close season in accordance with the recommendations made by Colin Meredith and Doc Bridgett; but this was not done. Glyn was sacked and Gareth was brought in. The first three meetings of last season produced woeful racing and although I do not know why Gareth left, I think it may have something to do with the track preparation. DH agreed with me when I metioned how bad the racing had been in those meetings. Glyn came back and I feel that the racing improved and once the Scunthorpe shale was used on the track the racing improved a lot more when the weather allowed. As an example, the late season match against Sheffield produced passes in 11 races after the first two bends and in two other races riders finished less than a wheel diameter apart.

I feel that we are already getting positive comments from independant observers from other tracks who have been to Leicester during the latter part of last season.

I feel that once the work has been done on the track and in the right hands we should, I hope, lose the "gaters track" tag.

And so you see, Robert and Jim, I do agree with you on some matters but I dont like repetition and I am possibly too trusting in saying lets give them a chance to do the changes before we comment further.

  2. Wasnt the track being changed last winter but didnt happen?

Why leave it till a few weeks before the season,is this the way to get fans to buy early season tickets or for future sponsors to invest not knowing if it will happen, again this is why speedway is in a mess, bad management decisions.

During the 2011 season someone complained about the lack of training at Leicester and asked why Scunthorpe was the nearest training centre. We now have regular training sessions and you say that the club is in the wrong.

It takes a lot of time and effort to change a Speedway Track. The initial track when first built, is often not fit for purpose, and overtaking is at a premium.

I know this having been a Lakeside (Arena Essex) supporter for most of my life. The original, flat as a pancake track with sticks, not safety fences, was woeful. Over the years it improved and with our current track curator, we witness a great deal of overtaking - as the bends now have more banking and the shape in/out of them has been significantly changed. Just to add, don't go by comments made by other people on here that still knock Lakeside, and do not go by our camera-shy performances whenever Sky are in town! We do witness a great deal of overtaking - much more so than many away tracks that I've visited.

Just to add, in the case of Leicester, why is there so much distrust from some quarters? You have possibly the most forward-looking promotion within the Premier League, and you should get behind them 100%. Everything I read about Leicester suggests that you are a success story in the making - so why the negativity from some 'fans'?

Rome may not have been built in a day, and Speedway Tracks conducive to good racing, aren't built in a couple of seasons!

Thank you for your positive post; an independant post was definitely needed.

  3. I've counted them up and i now make it 23 meetings (did we pay for the test match thing?) and 1 junior meeting (the only ones i can recall having to pay for seperately were the Karlsson testimonial and the MDL individual final). Either way, it's expensive and it would be nice to at least get a free programme or at worst to allow someone else to use it when the owner can't use it for whatever reason (illnesses, holidays).

There was also the Pride of the Midlands and the 4 team event.

Totally agree Lions12. Hopefully somebody from the promotion has read this thread and sees the need to make the deal better value for money (ought to include a free programme at least at these prices!)

I produce my own racecard as I would only throw away the programme.

  4. At £330, you'd have to go to 22 meetings at £15 each. Guaranteed meetings will be 12 league meetings, 2 league cups, 1 KOC = 15. If Leicester make top 6 then that makes 18 meetings, so where are the other 4 meetings coming from just to get the £330, with no savings! Seems ludicrous to me, surely the idea of a season ticket is that you make a saving, not pay more! And few people these days can guarantee that they'll be able to make every meeting!

Thats why I do not buy a season ticket!!

  5. I'l give you a sensible answer.

Lewis Kerr was on track and Lewis Blackbird was present but not on track in addition there was the Worrall's and Birks

Looking at the photos on the LSSC Facebook page, there is someome with Screen on the rear of his kevlars, does anyone know if it was Joe Screen?

  6. Oh i do want it changed and was one of many who expected it too happen last winter but it was all talk and no action,

Glyn rightly said we want better racing for the fans, sadly the promotion didnt care about the fans last season and then again decided not to change it mid season because the riders apparently liked it,this i find hard to believe when riders like lasse are complaining about the track weekly.

David hemsley also said the track was superb and producing great racing? is it david, then why were so many fans staying away and why has it taken 2 dismal seasons of gate and you win races and now you decide to change it ? this is another reason why this promotion is not ready for EL at the moment.

You will find that the track couldn't be altered in a week anyway and also I consider, as I have said before, the racing was far better cenerally last season, especially after the Scunthorpe shale was used. I would expect even better racing next season with the shape altered. It is not always down to the shape and surface material, it is also down to preparation and the skill of the riders. The surfade preparation in my mind at the staert of last season, when Gareth was in charge, was appaling!

  7. No surprise there then , I m sure the 0ther 10% of the regulars at BP who think speedway owes Leicester something would say exactly the same . but thats only 400 the other 3600 are happy to finally get the track changed and have a team that at least looks like it can hold it's own in the premier league and most of them are grateful that the rules were bent in 2010 to allow Lions to start in the premier league but there always has to be some who never think it's enough

    Why were the rules bent?

  8. Can anybody make an old man happy and tell me where I can get a copy of the book Leicester Speedway 'The Hunters Era' . I have so many memories of 1949 onwards but sometimes the detail escapes me. I do remember the match against Liverpool Chads when a sixteen year old 'midget' fell off every time. His name was Peter Craven . Any information would be appreciated.

Sorry you guys were not allowed in the Elite League, I had already made arrangements to stay with old freinds in Birstal for the Eagles match but I guess thats on hold until 2014.

Contact Alan Jones , The author and co prompter at Leicester Speedway, he will probably point you in the right direction.

  9. support has been drifting away because of the tracks reputation for crap racing and has done nothing about it , that is not forward thinking .........

Last season the racing was generally better especially after the shale from Scunthorpe was put on the track. You may also have noticed that only one meeting was cancelled during the season which is a lot less than most other clubs; this on a crap track.

  10. If Leicester go E.L. I might just drag myself down there so I'd better start saving my pennies as soon as the decision is made because I won't be giving up on Coventry. I know there are some fans who are not keen but it makes sense to me with local derbies against Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Coventry on offer whereas the nearest track in the P.L. is Sheffield.

    And Peterborough of course!!

  11. Over the past few years I have got more and more disillusioned with speedway, and at the moment, like many others, I am not sure if I want to follow the sport anymore. I think there needs to be drastic changes and the following are my main concerns.

I want a team that has 7 riders who I can follow and support throughout the whole season, and when a visiting team arrives I want to see that team, not guests and R/R. Of course you will say injuries cannot be helped it is part and parcel of speedway. However this season injurys seem to have been worse than last season, and that was pretty bad.

I don't know the answer, but the fact that bikes have got more powerful and faster and tracks have stayed the same size may be the cause, or I have read the new silencers make it more difficult to control, or perhaps riders need inflatable crash jackets. Whatever the solution something must be done. Teams turning up with only half of their named riders has got to stop. Having mentioned the new silencers, they apparently make it harder to get the correct set up and that is why you see top riders get a max one night, and a low score the next. Something needs to be done about that and a return to throttle control and the skill of the rider, not who can afford the best equipment and engine tuner.

The tactical rule needs to be dropped, if not for all matches then definately for the Play Offs.

Succesful teams should not have to take an axe to their team at the end of the season because of an artificially low team average being imposed. You follow your team all season, and the next season it's a different team, your favourite rider cannot be fitted in due to team averages, the average has to be increased from it's current level.

Reserves should not have more than 6 rides, with 4 programmed rides that still leaves 4 extra rides between them to cover an early race injury. It's ridiculious that you can have a reserve potentially scoring 21 points and due to rolling averages, that rider stays at reserve for weeks.

The League cup should be dropped, to ensure if it's a wet summer, we are not scrambling to get fixtures run at the end of the season Why should you have to stand on a freezing cold October night to watch a competition final. Finish the League in September, and then if time arrange an end of season competition. If the KOC or LC is kept, make teams finish their KOC or LC matches before they start their League matches. How stupid to have a competion that starts in March but doesn't end until October.

If you own a business and you want to be successful, you find out what your customers want, and then give it to them. This sport does not bother to find out what their customers want and promoters can't be bothered to ask or don't care. A business that ignores their customers fails, and that is what speedway is currently doing, with fans drifting away in large numbers at most tracks.

I hope at the AGM they have the guts to put things right or myself and many others will say, "Thanks for the memories" and walk away.

I think that when riders are missing from both teams, R/R and guest use should cancel each other out ie No 1s from both teams are out; no PL guests, NL guests for both teams only. Similarily for other riders missing from both teams, which would normally require R/R, NL guests for both teams.

    Dryer weather

No parades, first race at the scheduled time

Two minutes to include gardening at the tapes

Max three minutes between heats when riders have consecutive races

Do away with official warnings for anticipating the start but not hitting the tapes. You move your excluded. Too many reruns and too many ref's choosing to apply their own code

All in all make the races come quicker to make it more exciting, there is nothing worse than a long drawn out bore fest!

There is nothing wrong with parades providing the first race is as advertised!!
