when you ride in the individual World Championship you ride for yourself not your country

If you lived somewhere for 8 years where would you call home?

Did Laguta wear a Latvian jacket when he was the Latvian wild card even though he is Russian?
Not to mention Rune Holta
And before you say it he has a Polish Licence, Bunyan has a NZ one.

this is not taking anything away from jason ,jason efforts in New Zealand should be commended and im sure he will give it all , but the point is this is the world championships, to find the best in the world , not a celebrity big brother on bikes , where you can just introduce a person to boost the ratings ,
Interesting to see who is the Wildcard for Cardiff then, how about Davey Watt? He's good enough to go in our GP according to others on here, why not put him in yours. Or can you name someone better?
The Welsh Executive doesn't have any taxation powers, so it's actually British taxpayers money...
I'd be surprised if whoever's funding the NZ GP actually insisted on having a 'NZ' wildcard in the field, but there isn't really any credible choice from the NZ ranks. At least Bunyan can be marketed as the 'NZ Champion' or similar, and I guess that's why it was done.
What's Mitch Shirra doing these days though? He could probably still put a leg over a bike and trundle round for four laps, and he's actually a Kiwi...

21st meeting
Jason Bunyan, Jesper Kristiansen, Ritchie Hawkins, Sean Mason, and Jamie Moohan... qualified as the top 5 of 8 riders to make the preliminary final. With Jason winning all 3 of his heats on 9 points, followed by Jesper on 8, Ritchie on 7, Sean on 5 and Jamie on 3... Bunyan won the preliminary final - followed by Mason, Hawkins, and Moohan - Kristiansen pulled up. The A Final was re - run after Bunyan crashed, Kristiansen unfortunately did a chain, and had to pull up...and Hawkins showed why Waikaraka is his favourite track by winning to Mason, and Moohan...

Did the solo meetings ever take place at Waikaraka Park? Were set for January 14 and January 21? Nothing on the track's website.
Also the one set for Napier was called off - because it clashed with the restaging of the NZ Stockl Car Championship at Gisborne.
Yes Ritchie Hawkins won both meetings, there's one next weekend too.

I agree we need to shelve this arhgument - because you have with this posting completely confirmed that you have NO defence of the current SGP system and have NO interest in listening to positive criticisms of the way in which so many riders are allowed techically automatically to remain in it year on year.
Iris answer to your arguement is was the previous system any better. Only if you have your Little Britain hat on.

Merry Christmas from NZ, sunny 22 degrees today.

Why all the worry about the wildcard.
When Italy run their GP there is no talk of there's no rider good enough.
Our Wildcard will be better than theirs

Why isn't there a meeting on the sunday after the GP? I'm sure it would attract a huge crowd..
Because of noise issues with Speedway in Auckland, we have to submit our race dates six months in advance. We share our ground with a karting track who also have to submit dates, so once set that's it. At that time of submitting dates the GP was still being negotiated - let alone a date for the GP being sorted. Now we know it is here for 3 years we will hopefully be able to work it into our plans.
The other point is the same few people involved in making sure the SGP is a success in Auckland are the same few who would need to organise the other meeting. So I think this year it is essential we concentrate on getting the GP right first.

Transponders and all the timing equipment is already used widely throughout NZ for the car classes and sidecars that run on car tracks.
Western Springs have had all that on hand for years and all linked to the big screen. transponders are hired by the drivers on the night.

There wasn't any practice before the old one off finals
Yes there was
-
not this one, as racing dates with the council had to be confirmed before GP was announced, but next season we should be able to sort something.
There is probably a practice night at Rosebank on the Wednesday before the the GP

action from Saturday night.
the catch fence will be gone for the gp , airfence to go in front of wall and the surface replaced. but take a cushion to sit on

But on the plus side you would get a race with two riders on the same side in each race competing instead of 1 rider from each country in a race making it closer to league racing than individual racing. It would also make it more global as countries like the US would be back in and dare I say it NZ.
National Teams could go back to Test Matches something that was lost with SWC. again a team format rather than an individual one.
