    I won't be lol.
I was speaking to a mate the other evening (on-line i may add) and he was talking about various league football teams around the UK saying this pandemic could lead to them going out of business in the next few months due to no spectators. Made me think that considering we constantly hear from speedway promoters of lack of cash that we haven't heard any claims of teams folding yet. I hope that remains the case but either finances aren't as bad as we hear they are or a lid is being kept on things.

Football clubs still have wages to pay and are running matches behind closed doors, the majority of promoters are just biding their time and have no costs (unless they are bound by rental agreements).

I see Kyle Bickley has withdrawn from Saturday's meeting and will be replaced by Joe Thompson.
While many of us questioned his inclusion I sincerely hope the negativity on forums isn't behind his withdrawal and wish the lad well.
I've seen what he IS capable over the last few seasons so let's hope he's just hit a wee slump due to lack of time on the track.

I think the 'negativity' was more the way the line-up was brought about and the fact that it's not worthy of the title, you couldn't blame him for initially accepting the offer. As for 'wee slumps' he has admitted that he found the step up from NL a very big one.

I often feel that when I look at the standard of riders in The Scottish Open Championship these days and think of some of the names added to the trophy alongside past world champions.
But I guess competing riders who win events these days do what the masters in the past did too and beat everyone else in the field and be the best on the day.

That is an open meeting, this is supposed to be for a national title.

Can't believe people are moaning about Crump being in. ... he's travelled half way round the world to participate in the championship of his country of birth. :t: Whereas certain others can't be bothered to travel down the M1 or round the M25. Actually could even said that 1 won't be there even though he was born within a couple miles of stadium.

No he didn't, he's been here all along.

Anyway, just to summarise what a few seem to be missing:

    • There’s a very rich heritage of Commonwealth riders in the British Final. From 1961 to 1974, it was, in effect, the British Commonwealth Final. Barry Briggs and Ivan Mauger won 10 out of the 14 championships from this era – with Peter Craven, Ray Wilson and Eric Boocock winning the other four. Briggo, Ivan and all weren’t considered to be foreign, but considered to the British. They rode for Great Britain in the World Team Cup – the 1971 winning squad considered of World Cup Willie, one Australian and three New Zealanders. Briggo even twice finished second in the BBC British Sports Personality Of The Year in 1964 and 1966 – he was considered eligible for the main award because he rode for Britain.
    • British riders (and indeed from other nationalities) have competed in the Australian and New Championships over the years. Joe Screen finished third in the Australian Final as recently as 2008. Dan Bewley is the current South Australian state champion. Jason Bunyan holds a record 10 New Zealand Championships, and Andrew Appleton and James Sarjeant have also won it during the 21st century. As far as I know, none of these riders had dual nationality.
    • Again, as far as I know, Rory Schlein, Jason Crump and Troy Batchelor all hold dual nationality.
    • Jason Crump is a three-time World Champion and his presence adds quality to any line-up.
    • Several leading British riders have turned down the 2020 British Final, and punters deserve a line-up worthy of their £20. Arguably the presence of the legendary Crump alone is worth £20.
    • This is a rather unique year.

While I accept your points, my gripe with it is that I have yet to see anyone in the line-up who is a worthy national champion. I know there's a former champion and he's a nice lad and there are some who previously wouldn't have been eligible but none of them is anything other than on the downward stretch. It's really just an open meeting and seemingly anyone with a bike is being considered.

Drew Kemp will be one I’d have thought.

I know people will argue the merits of including Crump but seriously who cares. It would add a bit more interest to the meeting. Will also give us a rough idea of what standard he’s still at and what might have been this year at Ipswich.

On the stream, yeah agree with others it’s steep. I’m still going to pay it though as I want to see the meeting.

It's supposed to be the British Championship but seems to be turning into a run of the mill open meeting, Yet another reason why Speedway has no credibility.

With 2200 in Foxhall it would have been rediculous easy to social distance and look pretty empty, if it goes ahead with 1000 it will look like nobody's there.

The only real issue in my opinion could be if a curfew is introduced. 10pm could be a problem unless they change the start time, not an issue for locals but totally different if people are travelling any distance.

I messaged Speedway GB asking how many tickets have actually been sold so far but as yet had no reply. Time will tell if I get mine or indeed if it even happens.

Let's be honest, they don't have a great deal of time to get it sorted out, it's only a couple of weeks away!

If the line-up is as meaningless as it looks like being, 1000 might be an ambitious target.

Mark Lemon has described the newly fitted speed transponders as a step forward for the sport. To me its just more money to not make anything better, along with 4 valvers, laydowns, etc

Totally agree, all this keeping up with the Jones's should be abandoned in favour of a back to basics approach, we should be going our own way (if we ever get started again).

i have it on very good authority that if the speedway cant run on a sunday the speedway will not be moving from the venue of brough park
but will change race nights and league to premier racing on a monday night .the premiers ship is not the way forward its this or the
    speedway will close.

Hi John hope you're well, would it be possible to track share with redcar?  Or would the fans of both clubs put up with that idea.  Not sure but if it saves one more club that's good for speedway? What do you think?

Almost 40 miles for home meetings? Very doubtful.

By the look of the readers comments on this link, this development has little chance of being completed (except for housing). Those comments that you can actually read that is, some of them are worse than some of the semi-literate comments on here, or are they by the same people?

As we pace through a Speedway free summer (so far) in Great Britain. Are fans missing their weekly/fortnightly fix of methanol badly? Clubs have certainly done their bit, taking a nostalgic look down memory lane. Poland also started at the weekend.

Will the absence of Speedway make the heart grow fonder / Or conversely will it allow people to think twice about attending the Sport in the UK? Money is going to be tighter and some people will lose/have lost their jobs due to the deadly virus.

I would think Speedway will also need to implement things to meet Health and Safety guidelines, as football is doing now to keep all supporters safe from the deadly virus.

We humans are very adaptive beings. I am sure whatever rules are 'enforced', supporters will return with reinvigorated desire to watch Speedway.

    I'm not.
