  1. Quite happy that these 2 lads are at reserve. I hope Gilkes comes back fully fit and was impressed with Edwards in the meetings he did for us. With the team average been increased would it not be an ideal time for all teams to have 2 up and coming reserves ? More races against each other plus racing against higher average riders too. Just a thought.

Assuming the points limit is 40, I imagine the team will look pretty much like this:

    1. J Holder 8.91
    2. Howarth 5.47
    3. C Holder 6.67
    4. Pickering 6.53
    5. Woffinden 8.26
    6. 4.16?
    7. Gilkes RS

Left with 4.16 to play with at reserve. Do we go for Etheridge? Who else could fit?

Personally I’d like us to be able to fit one of the Cook brothers in instead of Kyle. He’s been a loyal servant to Sheffield but I think we need to freshen it up if we want to have a chance of winning the league again. Can’t see Kyle upping his average any more.

Don't think anyone else disputes the use of guests in the circumstances - the injuries were unfortunate and unforeseen

It was the fact that Lambert should never have been allowed to be one of the guests that is more the issue

Agree that being able to replace Vissing was the difference in the scheme of the bigger picture

The changes made and the way that was undertaken also leaves a lot to debate as to the ethics of it but quite frankly I can no longer be bothered!!

Allowing Lambert to ride is how you interpret the wording of the rule as with many rules. I don’t understand why they couldn’t just add lamberts rides last year to his then average so he’d have an updated average this year. Why are play offs not added to the riders current average. I think all official matches should count. League /Cup/play offs. The changes we made had to be made because it’s a numbers game. We couldn’t just change one rider   In my opinion I would have kept Kerr as he’s a better performer at Ipswich and Wolves. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what anybody thinks on here because we can’t change anything.

@Charlieboy not necessarily, if Woffy was kept as an injury replacement for Holder, then Jack could have come back in, it would have meant keeping Ellis & Kerr though, not bringing in C.Holder & Vissing.

Would have meant less guests needed, which they wouldn't have known they'd need at the time obviously.

Jack wasn’t fit enough to come back In because of his injury. He wouldn’t have been able to ride in all our meetings. He was only just able to manage his GP last 2 rounds with long gaps in between. The GP tracks are easier to get round than Wolves and Ipswich with their tight bends. End of the day guests are used by every team and you are always going to try and use horses for corses whichever team you are. I don’t like them but it’s the nature of the beast   Sometimes they pay off sometimes they don’t. I don’t think Harris and Lambert scored more than Jack and Tobi /Wuffy would have done so we didn’t benefit from that. Ellis could have had one of his better nights and scored what Noddy did so Jye was probably the difference replacing Vissing who still hasn’t returned from injury.

Well done Sheffield, the rain didn't have that much of an effect and there was some decent racing

Went expecting us to lose on aggregate, but the scene was set in heat one and all seven riders kept up the pressure until heat 15 when we got the points needed, second time in six months i have seen a Sheffield team in a record breaking come back in the play offs

well done to the guests all rode as though they wanted to win when they could have just gone through the motions, would rather have had Tai and Tobi but that's speedway

hopefully if we get to next years final we can win it before heat 15, my nerves cant stand any more last heat deciders like that

You can’t beat been there with live sport when  those 2 play off comebacks were achieved. Absolutely remarkable nights of entertainment. I always felt Wednesday had a chance against Peterborough but wasn’t confident last night especially with Emil and Doyley and I expected king and Rew to see them over the line. The track held up well despite the rain and none of the riders complained. Great attitude from both sets of riders to crack on and get to the end. If a result had been called after 10 heats we’d won anyway and we would have been robbed of some really good racing in the latter heats.

  6. Brilliant performance from our all star Tigers. Well deserved tonight coming from 18 points down. Track held up well after all the rain we’ve had and an exciting meeting. Lambert and Bomber didn’t score more than the lads they replaced would have done. Last heat decider good for tv. Rather have won it with the original 7 but can’t help injuries and over the season everyone uses guests and benefits. Well done to all the riders for giving their all. Hopefully next season we don’t get all the injuries and we can defend our title with the original 7.

  7. Looks like there’s going to be a lot of supporters /fans / keyboard warriors who never go having some sleepless nights this weekend. Stop taking the sport so seriously. Guest riders have been in use for donkeys years and the sport can’t survive without them. FACT. We can’t run squads. Not enough riders and too expensive. Are Sheffield expected to use 2 juniors to make up the team ? That will definitely help Wolves get a healthy crowd. Not. Just accept what we’re been fed.  Pay to watch or don’t go. Simple. Enjoy your weekend everyone

  8. Ipswich top 2 had an off night by their standards but other lads stepped up to cover  and kept their team in it all the way through. Fricke had a big off night. 6 points nowhere near enough to defend and will probably be wiped out in first few heats. Expect Ipswich to win by around 14 points. Sheffield need to concentrate on the Wolves meeting and hopefully pick the right guests.

Just the 50% of the side dropped them

Nobody mentioned dropping riders. The original post mentioned Kyle Howarth being injured and I replied to that stating all the original sheffield riders had been injured. That is fact. If Ipswich have been fortunate enough not to have the amount of injuries we have then they have been lucky. If you’re not happy that Ipswich have not replaced out of form riders then take that up with your club instead of sniping at other clubs when team changes are been made. Too many people on here are obsessed with other clubs changes. Anyway I will be there tonight supporting the 1-7 that we put out on track. I take it you will be following you your team on the speedway updates

If Kyle Howarth doesn't ride due to injury the Sheffield side  will only have one rider that took part in the meetings leading to this final whereas Ipswich will track the identical seven riders that beat Leicester back in April.

Well that just goes to show how many injuries Sheffield have had compared to Ipswich. Every Sheffield rider has been injured this season and not often that happens.

    Sheffield fans will hope so

We also hope for a referee who pays attention to what’s going on on track. When Tobi fell off Douglas was not under power so should have been excluded. Then to confirm that he comes out in rerun on Worralls bike. Costing us the bonus point. Not that it makes a vast difference but just do your job.  Mickey Mouse sport can’t be taken seriously
