  1. As good as Steve Boxall was in 2013 I feel we should persevere with our own riders with an emphasis on raising the lower order and having progression throughout the team. Do what the league was intended to do, nurture lads through to the premier league and further.

  2. I love Baseby - he is a perfect number 2 - his carried forward average was the problem. We had no support for our top 4 and i don't think our reserves won a NL home heat 2 all season.

Heat 8 was the other heat that the home team needed to win and in 2014 we often gained a 5 - 1, not so this past season.

  3. No middle order may be a bit hash as the top 4 did their job, it was the fact that a 3 point rider had to fill the number two slot. Aaron was the only experienced rider who could have filled that spot. Sadly of the 3 x 3 pointers none were up to it, though Danno was the likeliest to have succeeded. It was really tough on Jamie expecting him to fill the spot with any success. Adam to my mind should have added to his score but sadly it was not to be. The blame not only rests with Len, but also with Roger and Chris, they should all be aware of the bright youngsters. The real problem rests with riders availability and an 18:30 start may be restrictive for many. It is easy to slate and apportion blame but much harder to actually do the job. We need lads who really wish to ride for the club and a couple more James Shanes' may be what we need.

  4. It was having three three pointers that really hurt Kent in 2015. If they use two in 2016 and one can kick on then they will be more competitive.

Possibly strengthening the middle order with riders likely to add a point or so would be a good thing!

  5. He's still very young and has the years and talent on his side to improve. Like many riders when they start out in the NL, all he would have to do to add that point you speak of is to learn to stay on the bike when in a scoring position.

Staying on the bike it is then. As Alex 2000 says removing pressure may assist. The big question is that having two 3 pointers in the ranks are we going to do a 2015 and see them fail again? Does lightning strike twice, maybe?

  6. Strange, but I failed to see him as anything other than a trier. If the Eastbourne setup could not get the best out of him I fail to see what Kent have to offer him. Kent need lower order racers who will add 1 or more points to their averages.

  7.

Actually not the case I'm afraid, flipper11.

The Planning Committee's decision when relayed back (though not evident at the actual Hearing itself) was that the extended curfew to 9.30pm was for Elite League only (and as you say, on Fridays).

An illogical decision because obviously any 'issues' the Council had about so-called "noise" (in fact no noise nuisance has ever been caused) would be no different whatever division or level of Speedway takes place at Central Park.

But nonetheless that is the current state of play regarding Planning.

Need to get planning to run beyond this upcoming season as it is the last with planning granted. Seems that the devil is at work at CP and all could be lost as the Local Authority seem hesitant to grant any form of social activity licence. Seems it could go to the dogs!

  8. Go look at the oldest contributors, We are just kids! Yes I know and I stupidly didn't read it but I wanted a story from Kent like they have now done! Wasn't it false hope saying it could be 2016 then say oh no it wont be!

Logic on going Elite would be that Lakeside had folded. If, as is the case, they were running then a Friday running would be a non-starter and Elite league starting at 18:30 and completion come 20:30 is also illogical. The club's aspirations are commendable and I hope achievable, but not yet awhile I doubt.

  9. I can't have another season with nothing at reserve, and as much as i love Mason, it's a step backwards.

Thought we had signed Jack Thomas on 3 so one of your two would have to go and with Mason going over the hill I should think we should be looking for younger middle order riders.

  10. I'd give Basford another go provided his machinery is more reliable, he spent a fair bit of time on the centre green.

Shame as he has two bikes in the pits. Like all situations with machinery there is nothing says when it will fail and maintenance does not come cheap.

Is Daniel Spiller available and if so could he be a King?

  11. That bottom end (all three spots) need to be capable of building on their starting average which should not be too much to ask if (whoever they may be) they are serious about racing for a league team. The middle order likewise and then it becomes onwards and upwards. Sadly declared averages then mean it is most unlikely that the same septet would be able to stay together for a second season. As such it is the teams supporters who suffer and many fickle minded people then drift away. Perhaps the points limit should be nearer the 45 mark!

  12. Should not lose sight of Ben Basford being an asset.Whether he would really want to have all of the travel is another thing. He could be loaned out for a season no doubt if his average does not fit with the new numbers!

  13. It was a right crap hole of a track

Think maybe you and a few others fail to remember that it is still early days for the track and yes maybe in the haste of creating it some things were overlooked which have created the poor state of the track. Base being flat and not permitting banking to the boards. Towards the end of this season it was bedding down better and when track grading during racing went ahead (Len not being in attendance) the racing was of a good standard. The lack of overtaking is something else; Mark Owen a couple of seasons past found a line to the back straight off bend two which drove him past the opposition. This line has subsequently been exploited by others (though infrequently). Notwithstanding this racing to the line has seen riders being passed at the chequered flag. Does this not provide what the punters look for? I walk the track weekly and have done so since day one so I know what issues exist. More shale is required, though the uncertainty of planning does not engender large expenditure for an uncertain future. I think we should be thankful for the wonderful facility and be accepting of the limitations placed against the promotion in these early days of this venture.

What do you expect if you have an old dinosaur like Mr Silver there?

Things will not progress at the Club until he goes.

Club finished BOTTOM of the League this year.

I do not go anymore and will not return until he goes.

Says a lot but the riders should be supported, not their fault that the promotor failed to find 3 pointers who would improve their averages

  14. Jack has not gone forward as would have been expected with Mildenhll. He needs to make a big step forward soon or will be considered an also ran. A good second string rather than making it to becoming a heat leader who could improve on that status.

  15. Agree, that Danny and James alongside Thomas are probably certs, Ben has been amazing for Kent, but his average and career suggest he would be hard to fit in without making the team too top heavy, and should be riding PL

I would no way include Aaron, I like him as a rider and person, but like said, misses too many meetings, and his average is quite high considering his worth to the team

so 4 new faces, guess we have to see who is running next year to see who is available, would love Ellis perks if he is not at Cradley

Wouldn't mind Danno Verge at reserve, feel he was hard done by having to ride at 2 for large parts of last season, but not in the main body of the team, maybe Jack Smith if he's not already signed for anyone

Jack may be Brummy bound. We should have nailed him mid-season when he rode for us up there. Ellis may become available, a lot depends with whether Cradley (Dudley) or any other Black Country name, will still be around next season. If the Isle of Wight make it back next season they may have claims on some riders or even take overCradley lock stock and barrel. Most unlikely though.

  16. Isle of Wight may boost the NL numbers. Could we get numbers to match the PL? Surely the NL should be the largest league thereby offering youngsters more opportunities and alongside more experienced riders. Must admit it did not work out for Kent this year as the 3 pointers failed to respond on track. Danny Ayres improved significantly and James Shanes also. This identifies that across the league some riders upped their averages some stagnated and some went backwards. At least this helps team managers when recruiting but teams with improved rider bases end up having to release riders who supporters like to get behind. Perhaps every team must include at least one rider new to the league and not from the senior leagues.

  17. Surely the original intent was to have at least PL racing if not indeed EL racing in Central Park. As Lakeside have insecure tenure at Arena it makes sense to relocate. It is just feasible that there could be two clubs (riding alternate weeks), this might depend on whether Roger Cearns intends to play a role or whether he then rents out the club to another promoter. Nonetheless everything as regards the future of speedway at Central Park revolves around the Planning Committee.

  18. Do believe that the excuse used was that as it was not listed in the original fixture list, therefore their diaries were filled as work days. For seriously intent speedway riders one wonders why they could not have worked a shorter day or at least have attempted to make the event, albeit a bit late in the day. I doubt that long-term such omissions on track time will be reflected in future bookings.

  19. Slightly different but I remember a chap who built a sidecar outfit for the grass back in the sixties but could not ride it. He found a driver and a passenger to race the unit for him. He used to tow it behind a three wheeler (those were the days). A slightly different way of getting your kicks, yet life is about living. What none of us knows is why sponsors sponsor riders or teams. All I know is that I have been a supporter and back then I used to marshall or for my club would be secretary of a meeting for scrambles and grass. We should all be a little more tolerant and be thankful that those of us who may not have the guts to ride competitively channel our support via alternative means. Done!

  20. Might be that both Waco and Sings4Kings are both right in their thoughts. A lad needs to give it a try so he gets kitted out (not cheap), finds he likes it and has potential. This then may be where the costs start to escalate and extra help is either a must or very welcome indeed. We the paying public moan over the cost of watching but it still is cheaper than most football league games and these lads put their lives on the line as well.
