The man is an absolute legend and always will be.
Takes me back to Blackbird Road in the mid 70s when Belle Vue came to town.
I've even got his autograph on my old clip board.
Well done Peter do you still have the Kevin Keegan perm?

Anyone any ideas who will replace JD in the lions line-up for the above?

I have never been to leicester speedway before but will be going this year with my wife, son and nephew and looking forward to mingling with the lions fans when the brummies make the short trip..
I won't be put off by the same old people on here who moaned about it before and the moaned about it after . I don't know why they bothered going if indeed theey did at all...
You will be more than welcome at BP
We are not all miserable buggers over in the east midlands.Just some and they are experts in everything speedway.
Most lions fans are looking forward to the EL this season especially the local derbies

Thanks Big Al and Gemini.
I'm new to this posting lark and thought it was quiet on the Leicester thread and not realising it had its own.
Must be the sun stroke I endured yesterday.
Having looked on it same old same old then.
Pleased to hear that most peopled enjoyed there day considering we've got a 'crap track and 'crap promotion'

How was the meeting yesterday?
Glorious day to watch speedway,I arrived at the stadium at 1.40 after parking,it was really busy which was great in support of the Ben Fund but the queue for admission was horrendous only the two little windows open to take money which is ridiculous.Apparently the start time was put back to let everyone in but had a prior engagement at 4.30 so went home.
By the look of the scoring Cooky and Morris had good days.
How was the racing?

It's one way to make sure you get on the tele though when Sky are in town.
Oooooh. Colin Cook. One of my all time favourite Leicester riders, purely for his style of riding though. That's why I like Simon Stead as well, although Simon also has the added attraction of always coming round on a victory lap which was appreciated at Coventry when most of the riders just went straight back to the pits and sod the fans.
P.S. I like you - you've got a sense of humour Shirl.
Thanks Gemini I think it's essential to have a sense of humour on this forum as sometimes there is too much negativity and back biting
As for the legend that is Colin Cook I didn't realise he was such a heartthrob maybe it was the 'beard'but more than likely his riding of the boards.A top entertainer round Blackbird Road.
Keep smiling

I couldnt think at the time! I was traumatised over the nasty comments id received about my nasty comment i made about the nasty comments from the "most" nasty of people.
Plus i couldnt remember "jason's" name and thought it would be too hard to look for it so john would do. No harm done.
P.s
Soz Doyley or JD or whatever it is. Johns better anyway i reckon, but its up to you, what with it being your name and all that
John it is then.I like it
John, formally known as Jason, who changed his name to get a visa, will be fine as a number 1. He is improving each year.
I think John will be great for the lions now that the visa issue is sorted, riding under another name is fine apparently,Craig Cook is really the old lions legend Colin Cook minus the beard.

Bloody ell! Its taken me, on n off all day to read through this lot, getting caught up on all things Leicester Lions as regards the last rider and if John Doyle was official or not.
Most of you lot on here talk utter rubbishe ya know!
Like listening to my 7 and 4 year old bickering over the Ipad!
Still, same as ever i guess
Mr Lincoln city we are not all bad over on the leicester thread, some of the posters have very mixed views and like stirring s..t but most are keen speedway fans.
Simon Stead is our last rider named today which I reckon is a great signing and a Brit.
However I'm not to sure who this John Doyle is you speak about and what would be his average.
Any word yet of this mystery rider John Doyle, after trawling the tinternet I can find him anywhere

Why has this happened? For what reasons would a visa be declined?
Is Colonel related to Rainman
-
looks like rainman is nothing like the film .
So I guess no mention of a team manager yet ?

Ditto mrcts,he's a quality young rider and his visits to BP have been superb.
If the lions managed to get his signature the side would be very exciting.
Fingers and toes crossed!

My guess is Leicester and Sheffield. I have to say the way Swindon have conducted their business over the last year is deeply unimpressive.
The way they handled the Birks situation was dreadful, great lad, decent prospect and Belle Vue with 3.13 left have nothing to lose by including him. Also signing Doyley and not using him for two seasons stinks - great team man, good rider still improving.
Mind you if I don't go to crumbling Blunsdon from Reading my nearest track is Lakeside. Tranquilisers please or speedway only on Premier Sports for me...
Me thinks Rosco and even Patch were beguiled by the farmers daughter at Somerset, delicious Debbie...
And do the Rosco's need another lodger with his full time driving job and Swindon Speedway?
I think if Nick Morris was Leicester bound every lions fan would be very happy.
He is always impressive around Beaumont Park and would go well with Doyley
Merry Xmas

And Leicester is the 10th biggest city in the UK. And its famous for Eurovision entrant Englebert Humperdink. And it has two of Englands most capped footballers.....messrs Shilton and Lineker....and for David Icke....
Aren't you forgetting Richard the turd!

After the news that the lions have signed Jason Doyle,I'm off to the opticians to collect my new 2014 rose tinteds.
Ba humbug!!
-
I don't think Craig Cook was ever gonna sign for the lions. We should admire his loyalty to Edinburgh and The aces.Good luck to him,he is a top rider and entertainerCookie signs for belle Vue. Never in doubt. You can forget him now

A real sad day for all speedway fans, a great track and great supporters.

I heard a rumour that Magnus has ridden too 2nd place in the PLRC.
Well done Magnus don't think we expected him on the rostrum.
Let's hope he's back in lions colours in 2014

If I was in charge the track would of been ripped up after the first year.
What would plant in its place Cabbages, carrots and potatoes
I think they would thrive as according to some there's plenty of manure about the place.
Maybe there could be a farm shop next to the burger van for those who prefer the healthier option
