Standard Berwick away, in the meeting until the closing stages and then collapse, we don't have riders who are capable of winning heats thirteen and fifteen on a regular bases in tight meetings.

Fantastic turn around by Plymouth (manager) was a great help in doing this.

A night of two half's! once again two very good guest riders, when they started  attacking the track and getting out of the gate ,what a turn around, did not see this coming.

Just one point from me quite a lot of fine dust flying around, difficult to see bend three from bend one at times.

But a first class night of speedway (well done).

First home fixture for Pedersen, Crump and the other Plymouth home riders, will the team hold out a good battle and take their first home win of the season.

    Preview of tonight's meeting - http://www.kent-speedway.com/news.php?extend.1664.1&fbclid=IwAR39kXHBE3cBjFIZ0huPhUceNjs7seoPfgMtBHwusyV-aRtzfw_ctRl0NGo

Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the Updates site? If so, could you please send me a private message which includes your mobile number.

    Thanks

King in for Crump (first class guest) both guest rode well, slow start for Plymouth but they all worked hard. Pity about the sound system, but all worked out in the end.

The standard of racing was first class, the meeting started off flat but ended on a high.

It can only get better.     Well worth the money.       A very big thank you to all who helped in putting the meeting on.

    See you all next week.

How about Nathan Stoneman or is he off the hook given his reported preference for fishing.

Nathan Stoneman would be my first choice if available! I did think this season was the break through season for Henry ,just hope he comes back stronger when the time comes.

Like many others I wish him all the very best with the treatment and wish him all the very best with his recovery.

    Look forward to your return.

Cracking performance by Bjarne. I wish him a successful season but not this Tuesday!

A few of us travelled up from Plymouth, well worth all the rain just to watch Bjarne and Jason (Bjarne was out standing) the rest of the Gladiators put a lot of effort in but could not get off the line! A lot more yet to come from Jason, still a very polished rider (every Scunthorpe rider was giving 110 % to try and beat him)!!

First away meeting, first meeting as a team. Flint put 110 % effort in well done and thank you for standing in. The Scunthorpe team had there set up right plus had track time in so had the edge. Fingers crossed the young riders in the Plymouth team get a fair chance to show what they can do.

    Yes the track been better.

I think you are wasting your time here.

You and your pals have been attending Plymouth Speedway for years. You have worked in the track, raised funds for the club, sponsored riders and the team and travelled all over the country to watch the Devils. Few can match that and, lets face it, that's the kind of supporter every club wants and needs.

In all those years, not a word has been said about your behaviour.  Its nonsense to suggest that you have turned into a foul mouthed sexist overnight, but that's precisely the reason for you and others being barred. I find it hard to believe that anyone is so naïve that they actually believe that.

Truth is you have been barred because you have been vocally critical and, far, far worse, a lot of others agree with you. If you were alone, you'd be laughed at. You're not.

Personally speaking, I think meeting with the promotion will be an utter waste of time - and they are not interested in talking to people around you because that will blow apart the reason for the ban -  because they have flat denied that anything is wrong. What precisely will be achieved if that is the attitude that you will face ?

Thank you.       But when false accusations have been made you have to say something , all this finger pointing with out facts! plus what they have said is on the point of defamation.

Those that started this vented attack should be ashamed.

having been the Pit Marshall at Plymouth many many moons ago this bunch that are very vocal about their speedway are still going strong and being very vocal.. they have been this way since day one why change them now. I remember having strong words with them over the track fence for their shouting and their choice of words.

I will say the promoter shouldn't be heckled in any way i am sure Mark is doing all he can to provide the paying public a place to watch a sport they all love and in no way should he be held to ransom. He also has to make sure anyone else coming to the track enjoys their time and doesn't come to the track see's what is going on and thinks i wont go again so wanting to portray a family fun night of sport etc..

a permanent ban is a touch strong as these guys have been there since day one but a learning lesson maybe should have been employed for the betterment of anyone new visiting and giving the best impression of the club and sport.

basically what i am getting at is the promotion are trying to get new people into the club as no club can support itself on a small number of regulars and this kind of vocal behaviour isnt always wanted or needed for the future of Plymouth Speedway lets face it if he shut the doors tomorrow where will they get their fix then if they are reading understand things from both sides of the fence and although your point may be valid and have a place in a discussion there are ways and means of getting your point across and usually they are to go and meet with the promoters and voice them now.

I know Mattie Bates will welcome a discussion as will Mark Phillips but doing things the wrong way will always get a sharp reaction and this is what they have got.

Just meet up with a few speedway supporters ( It now seems the bad language came from the end of bend two and the back straight stand)? this came from a lady how stands there!.

Plus like I have stated if you or the promoter would just ask this group of speedway supporters plus the 3 lady's who sat close by them ,plus the group of supports standing behind them in the stand, plus those sitting around them. This would be cleared up and then the truth would be out there for one and all.  The pointing of fingers with out the true facts, the many inaccuracies and accusations being made against them are unfounded.  Yes some of them have been quite vocal over the seasons and on the night about the track conditions. But have supported speedway at the new site (good and bad times).   I plus quite a few others, would willing meet with Mat or Mark over this matter.

As an end to this debate, it does need to be put to bed I would say if they are in their 70's they should know better, foul language is and should not be tolerated in ANY arena.  My mind does wander though to the one or two things you could accuse me of, come and talk to me, you will find me a reasonable person  :-)

Talking to the promotion might be better than blazing things around on forums, I've found that works often  :-).

I hope you have further friends to stand with on your visit and that you don't indeed hear any bad language or swearing  :-)

To Falcon 50, No doubt you were there and have clear evidence of who said what? I can inform you that one Lady in front and two Lady's close by up in the stand plus many others around this group of speedway fans would tell you that at no time did these fans make any foul language or sexiest remarks ( yes myself plus quite a few others raised are voices about the state of the track ) some one said he heard plus another I hear. These accusations now are on the point of defamation, these accusations are unfounded and could have so easily been cleared up on the night. If Mark or some one else from the promotion would of asked the supports there and then this would have been cleared up and put to bed!  but instead a few launched an intensified attack  on a group of very loyal speedway supports.  There have been so many inaccuracies and false accusations made . At Stoke on Sat/I wished Mat and the team all the very best when they were on there track walk ,unfortunately it was not a good for the Gladiators .

I feel very strongly about how these accusation's have been made over forums with out any one contacting any of the accused and supporters who were there at the time.     I hold no malaise towards Mark and the Plymouth Gladiators and wish them all the very best for the rest of the season and the future.  But please in the future get the truth and correct facts  first before acting on them.

  8. The only rider I see stepping up once again should be young Atkins, Roynon + Cockle will be the back bone of this team at home and away.

I lost a lot of interest last year, so I'm fingers crossed for a better season this year.

It is good to have speedway in PLymouth for another season.

  9. Godfrey Spargo did so much for many riders, plus helped Plymouth Devils over the early years.

He was involved with bringing back speedway in Cornwall, and keeping speedway in PLymouth!

He came away with the Devils on tour team a few times, I recall a time taking an engine up in the mini bus to Sheffield for a rider.

A very genuine gentleman he would always be giving the riders something to help them.

Sitting down with him, one could go back over the years of speedway.

A very true friend to Speedway, plus many of the riders that took part in are local teams.

    RIP Godfrey.

  10. After seeing the track on the forum plus hearing from hard time speedway followers,I'm glad i took the chance a went up to Somerset for that meeting.

Plenty of Poole fans there, turned out to be a good nights speedway well worth the effort.Poole won on the very last race.

For me it is the commentary on the last lap and the shrill of the announcers voice that stopped me from going back to Plymouth speedway.

I've been going from day one at the SBA plus many years a Plymouth and Exeter follower.

There is some thing about speedway at the SBA at the moment. Best of luck to them for what left of the season.

  11. The SBA is good for about 5 races, then the blue lines and dust start, watering heavy at this stage is just not possible due the lack of depth of shale.

The point about having shale/dirt down gives more grip more racing lines and better racing.

All up and coming riders have to master this art if they wish to progress forward.

Like Claret73 said speedway is about riding on shale not tarmac!.

  12. Under 19 British final at Plymouth,a first class line up of stars to come, first 5 races were excellent to watch.

Track had plenty of watering over 24 hours, but the lack of dirt/shale on the track made the track become a dust pit.

Wide blue lines on the both bends and straights!

It is only my opinion but it is this lack of shale on the track which is causing most of the problems with the racing at the SBA.

I can not fault the 110% effort put in by the track staff, but you can only work with what you have!

Once again a good night of speedway, with it being the under 19 British final I did not under stand the poor turn out.

This was a night to watch the up and coming young riders of the future.

A 100% effort from young Henry of Plymouth Devils his day will come.

99% stayed right to the very end ,for an outlay of just £10 a good nights entertainment .

  13. I speak for myself after a few weeks of dust in my eyes plus last Friday the loud commentary going on while they were racing!

A few of us had a speedway break away at the week end, first to see Ben Barker at Berwick, what a meeting and what a performance from him (track was watered 3 times ).speeds of over 80mph!!

On Sunday back down to Peterborough to see Jack Holder, once again what a performance from him, once again track watered 3 times!

A first class week end of speedway this is what the sport is all about (both these riders ex devils).

We meet up with supporters from each of these clubs at each meeting ,even going back into the club house bar at Berwick for a snack and drink we were made very welcome.

Getting back to Plymouth speedway the lack of a main sponsor is a big factor, plus you have only got to look around down at the track sponsorship is quite thin on the ground.

Plymouth needs sponsorship in what ever form it comes in,being at these other two clubs over the week end showed this.

It was the best week end of speedway for me for quite a few years.

  14. A bitter cold windy night down at the SBA,yet a warm feeling of good racing and competitive speedway.

Once again young Henry Atkins impressed me and others, this young lad will be up at the top in no time.

You could see Benji still had trouble with his knee yet tried very hard for the points he got, more to come from him.

Steve just not there last night yet still put in a very strong night.

The others tried hard, but we were up against quite a strong balanced team.

I stayed right to the end, well worth the entrance fee last night.

Yes they lost but a good nights racing.

N/L is what it is,a complete mix of riders, you never know what you are going to get on the night!

WE all have to start some place,SBA looked clean an tidy, pity about the dust.

No doubt it will get better when they get to know the track.

  16. To replace Compton? Reckon my Nan would do a similar job ;)

Not long to find out now, just over a week and the first meeting.I look forward to the first home and away meeting.

What every they do, lets try and support speedway at the SBA win or lose.

The promoters have given us the track and new air fence,The SBA looks clean an tidy,so all we need now is good dry weather and supporters to come and watch.

Best of luck to the team for 2017.

  17. I think to clarify further , It is possible that there may be monies owed for the previous old (slashed) airfence, if so ,the fanzone are looking to award the money to that person, if however the "old" airfence was donated to Plymouth Devils then the airfence collection 2016 can be given towards the New 2017 Plymouth Devils Airfence Fund. #### How devishly awkward ####

Just got back in from a meeting, thank you Mark now that the facts are there on the matter of the air fence money (for me this matter is now closed) I will be following the Devils at home and away for the 2017.

So look forward to seeing you at meetings. All the very best wishes to the new promoters and the team for 2017.

  18. This situation will never be solved one way or the other. Why? Because you have two parties and you have the followers of those two parties. Each will not have a bad word said against the person that they believe is speaking the facts, (rightly or wrongly). Where monitory sums are concerned everyone steps on very thin ice as no matter what one says the other will question it, (again rightly, or wrongly). But most important of all in saying things of a monetary foundation you are laying yourself open to legal proceedings. You will never know or find out everything that you may desire, as every time a so called fact is stated someone will always question it, as there is always two sides to every coin, (pardon the pun). There are so many stories of the past that even if the truth stood up and hit us in the face it would still be questioned. As has been said the new era and new future is ahead of Speedway in Plymouth, and if one thing is certain the people in charge know a hell of a lot more than any of us keyboard political boffins, as to who to trust and what to trust and to defend their interests towards the future. As painful as it may be to all concerned if involved in the past or as an onlooker, the past is the past, there will always be rumour and speculation, that will never go away, Hell will freeze over first. Only we can make the difference and box the past and shelve it for the benefit of Plymouth Speedway of the future. It takes a better and stronger person to accept the situation knowing there may never be answers to certain things and move on. And for the benefit of Plymouth Speedway that is the only path that is open and clear if speedway is to remain in Plymouth and let the pain of the past die once and for all.

Just sweep it under the carpet and forget about it,if that is the case then I feel that it would take a lot for me and others to put money in a bucket again.

This matter is nothing to do with past promoters, they did not collect the money to save the Devils .The facts are out there?

  19.

you need to take it up with them directly then keep it off the forum as anyone can read this all be it a new supporter if it is god help them this place can be ruthless..

Dont let it spoil the sport you enjoy in Plymouth and the new promotion.. I would guess the people involved with those things are no longer involved.. I dont live in Plymouth any more but had my hand in when i was there defending the in-defensible as in Mr Bowden.. all these things you mention about are nothing to with the new promotion or the people involved with the running of it..

would it be easier to say ( and i know nothing of it so excuse me ) all the money has gone... all the promises have gone... people lied to you.. again i dont know anything of what went on and what was said.. but if you take worst case understand that then move on..

    is it that easy ?

Once again I say that the out standing feelings are not with the promoters, supporters who put money in buckets ,who gave money monthly ,who helped in many ways .with out closure of these matters will they put there hand in there pockets again to help (it is that easy those who know of the facts of all the money collected in just say how it was spent) CLOSURE it is that easy!!

  20.

let the air fence collection go.. let the fan zone things go... all went with the old promotion who have absolutely nothing to do with the new guys.. never hold onto a grudge it will eat you up and things never move on trust me.. the new promotion are working their backsides off to give you guys the sport you love support them not harp onto the past.

NO this matter requires closing with the facts and truth, you may be able to move on but I know of many who need closure on these matters (this had nothing to do with the last promoters ).

  21. Fine Mike, I trust you are well.

You are well aware that some have a very different and apparently selfish agenda.

In stead of running these supporters down why not ask them why, from what I know none of them have a selfish agenda towards the club !

There are many outstanding unanswered things about the fan-zone, air fence collection that need closure from last season and this may be holding supporters back.

After this I feel a lot of supporters would move on.

  22. Better off without them anyway some of them helped out in the past because they had a personal agenda which wasnt anything to do with helping plymouth speedway good riddance imo.

I speak for my self on this comment I have followed the DEVILS at home and away since speedway came back in Plymouth at the SBA. I like others worked to keep speedway going in all weathers My agenda was only to keep speedwaygoing in Plymouth,I say to you (you gave very little help in any way)but you always make comments about supporters and help given!

There just my be a reason (once again I speak for my self)why I have not been down helping.

I will still follow them at home, plus try and get to away meetings. If Devilman and yourself would like to know my reasons I will tell you face to face when the time comes.

  23.

Sheffield did amazingly well last season, but have a look and see what their fans think of their ex rider team manager (now ex team manager).

Gary May has certainly been one of the most successful, but he never got beyond being an NL reserve or so. John Campbell often manages Edinburgh, who have also been very successful recently and he has never ridden. Eastbourne's hail of trophies over the last two seasons has been impressive and they had Glenn Martin and Connor Dugard (who have also never ridden). As you say, Peter Adams has been hugely successful and it would be unfair to say that that is down to being with top riders - the 1978 speedway yearbook (his first BL win with Coventry) states that he played a major part in that win.

Thee was no way on this earth that the team manager at Plymouth was going to be anyone but Laurence. I am biased, but I really don't see why they would need or want anyone else.

Well said Halifax tiger,at this moment in time Laurence is the man for the job (being part of the new Devils set up why would you need anyone else).

All the very best for 2017 to one and all behind the Devils team.
