  1. Especially when we get another golf buggy, the one we've got is red so we need a blue one now and hope the rest of the league catch on and bring a white and a yellow one.Wow things are on the up at Leicester

If the size of the crowd stays the same as yesterday I can see the buggy going back to whence it came! If we do get red, blue, white & yellow will the red & blue ones be for home supporters and white & yellow for away fans? Also after how many journeys from the car park to the stadium can we have a tactical buggy. I could go on but it would only get really silly!

  2. DH wanted a fast track, he wanted spctators to get the impression of speed, that we certainly have. I can fully understand his thinking and when he explains it to you it makes perfect sense, it's not worked out racing wise though, it's just not entertaining. As others have pointed out reducing the straight at one end could well do the trick. Let's hope something gets done sooner rather than later, but I suspect that winter will be the time, if anything happens at all.

Ref comments about a slick track - that's the riders asking Glyn to prepare it that way. Maybe easier to ride but from a paying customers point of view it just makes it worse.

Apart from the track issues I think everyone who has worked at the stadium deserves great credit, a lot has been created from nothing in a very short period, and I wish the Lions (and Long Eaton) all the best.

By way of interest, according to my reckoning, Leicester is the 8th longest track in the UK and the 9th fastest. Sheffield is the fastest followed by Kings Lynn & then Workington. All figures calculated on the info in the Speedway Star's pre season issue.

  3. I have been trying to find something positive to say about Saturday's meeting. The only good thing from the Lions side was Jason Doyle's 15 point max., You can count the number of full maximums that Leicester riders have scored since speedway returned on the fingers of one hand. I think that he will turn out to be a genuine Elite League number 1. The only problem will be that, when the management come to change the team, as I am sure they will, his average will reduce the options available for a replacement. As far as the reserves are concerned the minimum required from them in each match is 12 points between them. Will Lewis Blackbird will get that number by himself for Eastbourne next Saturday?

  4. I hope that the Leicester promoter has explained the importance of this and the return match on Saturday to the Leicester Riders! It doesn't matter to me if Leicester do not win any other matches this season as long as they beat the Bees! I well remember as a lad in the 1950's catching a double decker Leicester City Transport bus (one of about 12) to Brandon on a Saturday night and buying hot dogs (with onions) from the man at the back of the banking on the 3rd bend. Delicious! Even more delicious if the Hunters (as they were then) won.

  5. Quite enjoyed that, a great race in heat 4 between Lambert and Perry and again in heat 11 with Sarjeant, very windy afternoon but the rain kept off, a bit cold though, unusally there wasnt many falls on the 3rd/4th bend as you normally see.

Well run meeting and with the threat of rain they got on with it, not the best meeting Ive ever seen but these lads give it there all,

NL track record holder Max clegg 64.62s and Lambert retained the bronze helmet from Sarjeant, some EL clubs could learn form this level on how to run a smooth meeting, no faffing about just get on with it.

I agree that the meeting was well run - took just 90 minutes (but no interval) but thought the presentation could have been better. E.g. presenter only started introducing Leicester team as they left the track and no explanation of how the National Trophy competition works or what teams are in it. I was pleased to see Max have a good win in the fastest ride of the match.

  6. I can assure you there's no objection from Ken. Spoke to him this morning about this very subject. In actual fact, both of us are happy about the planning application from Beaumont Sporting Complex, believing it's about time they addressed some of these things. It's taken long enough - though I imagine it's been instigated by the council.

You can see a copy of Ken's comments at http://fdweb.leicester.gov.uk/planning/fdweb/Image.aspx?pbfc=375
