Dont know but I think he (and his no nonsense refereeing) is sadly missed, always the man in charge at the meeting and took cr*p from no one no matter how big a star the rider or team manager was. Seen him get through many a meeting in record time with the 2 minute warning for the next race coming on as the last riders left the track.

Come back Frank British speedway needs you.

Frank Ebdon may have had his faults, but at least he knew how to keep a meeting moving.

  2. Nicki is a great rider and from what I'm told a decent bloke off the track but the fact of the matter is he causes crashes time after time. Even if you are a fan of his you have to realize that every other rider dislikes him for a reason. I remember in the Cardiff program years ago David Norris admitting that even though NP was his team mate there were times he couldn't defend some of the stuff he did. Also, I used to sponsor an ex team mate of Nicki's and he simply described him as a lunatic who'd rather fence him then get a 5-1. For those of you who don't know me you may think that is made up bull****, but I swear it's true.

As for Greg's reaction, don't know what everyone is up in arms about. He just got knocked off his bike at 70mph, by a guy who's don't it multiple times before & he saw red mist. Not the first or last person who's done that. The only real surprise was that it was Greg that finally stepped up and did what loads of others had wanted to do for years.

    Roll on Cardiff...

I can well remember him costing Eastbourne a bonus point against Wolves in 2003 because he'd had a clash with Peter Karlsson earlier in the meeting and then became more interested in gaining his revenge on PK later in the meeting.

None of his past crimes however should excuse Hancock's conduct afterwards, nor his petulant statement.

You can make equally long lists for Emil for starters.

Zagar I witnessed making one of the most despicable moves I have ever seen on Buzz Burrows.

Woffy has wiped out a number of fellow competitors.

    Gollob most certainly has.

Holder too was no shrinking violet before his injury.

    See a pattern?

Very rare to see a world champion who isn't prepared to be a little forceful at times. You do need that nasty edge to be successful.

    Rickardsson, Gollob, Crump, Hamill etc....

I've seen all of them be pretty ruthless at times.

Pedersen has stepped over the line in occasions - that can't be denied - but yesterday was not as dirty as some of the others we've seen. The problem is his reputation means any incident involving him leads to all and sundry jumping on the bandwagon.

Hancocks was wrong to have reacted the way that he did and it shouldn't be glossed over just because people think he's a nice guy.

  4. Having seen it from both angles, Nicki deserved his exclusion, as he took Greg's line and left him with nowhere to go. It certainly wasn't the worst move Pedersen has executed (the one against the same rider in Prague in 2004 was worse IMO), but still a dirty piece of riding.

Theres no problem with needle and a bit of agro, but Hancock reaction was way out of line. He could have ended up doing some damage to himself, let alone to Pedersen.

  5. About time we dispensed with Sky I'm afraid, the opportunity was there in the noughties to push our sport on to the next level but the people in charge as usual made a dog's breakfast out of it. I know clubs will lose income but I believe we need to get back to basics even if that means the few remaining big names being lost. This whole heat 10 business and the need for Sky to to show meetings whatever the weather in front of abysmal crowds needs to end. Time for regular fixtures with far fewer guests.

Speedway had a great chance to set down some proper foundations in 1999 when Sky got involved with the Elite League. Sadly, the incompetence of the BSPA has led to this chance being frittered away and money which should have been invested into bringing the sport into the 21st century has instead gone into propping up the outdated model we now have.

Now speedway has become so dependent on this money they cannot afford to lose the contract, as very few other broadcasters would touch it with a bargepole. Its savage indictment of the way the sport has been run in the UK, and more and more people are turning their backs in their droves.
