another nail in the so called top tier of British speedway, arguably one if not the best away supported teams in the league.

This whole situation sums up the whole "fly by the seat of their pants" attitude of British speedway.

If Poole drop down, the BSPA will scramble and try and coax some teams up from the Championship to make the numbers.  While they continue to desperately prop up the league.

Its short-term, quick fixes all the time, which you can only get away with for so long

The only way this tie could possibly still be in the balance is IF the track tomorrow is in the same virtually unrideable state as tonight. Utter farce of a meeting tonight but what can they do when the TV are there and the play offs are in big trouble if the meeting was called off?!.....One day the powers that be, may realise that the play offs need to be earlier in the year to have more chance of not being utter embarrassing farces!

I'll never understand why these promoters continue to play dangerous games by having gaps in the fixtures in the Summer before making a mad dash to cram them all into September and October when the weather starts to turn for the worse.

The expected result the minute the cameras showed the track drenched.

Fair play to Swindon who did what any away side would do.

A 10 point away win should be enough however let’s hope for a wet 2nd leg to even it up.

    Advantage Robins tho right now.

Rory and Luke at least gave 110%, 2 out of 7 not good enough.

Natalie just saying praying for good weather tomorrow. Wolves fans will want equally appalling conditions to level it up.

Cant see the conditions making much difference.   Been watching Wolves for nearly 30 years and I've never known us be strong on a wet track

Let me just say what a fantastic weekend we've  just had in Cardiff. Its one of the  highlights of our Speedway calendar as indeed is Torun next weekend.

Cardiff is the ideal host City for the event .  Its impressive Stadium right in the heart of the City ( not on an industrial estate miles from anywhere)  with ample seating for everybody that wishes to attend and a roof guaranteeing that the inclement British weather will never stop the meeting going ahead. A great atmosphere throughout the City for  the whole weekend with plenty of restaurants and pubs to cater for all tastes and pockets. Hotels , yes there far too expensive which we all know but its no different from anywhere else when a major event is being held. Supply and demand, Shop around and search on the internet and look for the best deals to suit your budget  . The racing this year wasn't great but i still thought it was an enjoyable meeting. Next year might be better.

It may have been a disappointing meeting to a few sat at home watching but to the majority of those present a thoroughly enjoyable Speedway weekend. Tickets and hotels booked for next year , roll on 2020.

All totally irrelevant if what people go to speedway for - the racing - is utter garbage.

    Similar to the above:

If I had the choice, as a one off, of attending a meeting with a 40,000 crowd but poor racing, over one with 1000 there but reasonable racing it would be the first one.. every single time.

It's indisputable that is the case for tens of thousands of others too despite what a few claim on here.

Cardiff is more than just one speedway meeting for many. It's a weekend jammed full of meeting up with old friends, some who they see once a year.  It's the ultimate occasion for a speedway fan, a rare time a city is taken over by the sport and long may it continue to thrive as a beacon that there is still support for speedway in the UK.

Utterly pointless if the racing -which is what speedway is all about - is boring.  Cardiff should have been binned years ago.

Simple question for those who liked the 'bonus pt'.

    Why? What made it better?

Bonus point system had good and bad points.  It would give you an extra heat if the aggregate was tied (the legendary Mikael Karlsson-Ryan Sullivan run off at Peterborough springs to mind), but one team thumping the other both home and away rendered it meaningless.

There again, speedway has much bigger issues that wont be solved by changing the scoring system.

  7. Think I remember seeing one at Brandon.  Last rider was Chris Manchester, who decided to pull a wheelie all the way down the back straight, and was promptly excluded for not racing properly.

The referee was Frank Edbon surprisingly

  8. Hopefully some light at the end of the tunnel for the Bees fans, although  protecting Brandon from the developers is one thing, but there is still the matter of getting the stadium out of BE's hands, which will be a big hurdle to negotiate.

It's a farce that a city like Coventry has lost the Bees and the stock, while the football team will now be playing in Birmingham.

Just a quick add on to Moxey's excellent post. Some may be thinking, so they lost a few riders, no big deal. The difference that season was guests were only allowed for your No 1 rider, which of course was Sam Ermolenko.

Where the league was really lost was a 2pt home defeat against Ipswich when we had a side of Sam Ermolenko, Peter Karlsson, Neil Evitts (riding injured and woefully out of form and confidence) RR and four juniors. Sam rattled off a 21pt max, PK may have got a max too, or close to it, but it wasn't enough.

Shane Parker decided to goad the Wolves crowd after the meeting celebrating wildly and became somewhat unpopular to say the least.

That said my opinion of Parker changed a few years later when we held a fund raising event for PK, Parker came along and was brilliant. He's a bit handy at Laserquest!

The Ermolenko crash in Heat 1 against Bradford had more ramifications as it meant we didn't get the bonus pt that match which would have won us the league that night if I remember correctly.

Never forgotten that Ipswich match. I dont even a Cradley team getting as bad a reception at Monmore as they did after that.  I remember we went to get some fish and chips on the way back and when we walked in, John and Chris Louis were in there and looked very embarrassed!
