  1. I d say although speedway is looking a big doubt to finish the season. The long term future of the stadium must be pretty safe. Bangers are still putting 4 figure crowds in on a weekly basis.

My best guess would be that Eastbourne will come to the tapes in 2022 but under new management.

Kent.....not much.  An occasional mention in a local newspaper....very occasional

No signs, posters, radio, TV, appearances etc etc etc

If I ran a team, I'd design a really modern looking, classy car sticker with some essential ingredients such as the club logo and clear 'SPEEDWAY TEAM' on it and give them out free to ever single person that attends.  Cheaper than you'd think and car stickers get seen ALOT

That's simply not the case, the riders do TV interviews every meeting, and it usually features in the Friday evening news on South East ITV Station Meridian tonight.

Also bbc radio Kent mention it quite often. And there is also a close tie up with sittingbournes own radio station

Len has also every year produced thousands of posters and fliers, and supplied them to fans to distribute in thier own local areas, this scheme is known as fans force.

Then there is the carnival scene, where the club has a float representing speedway in each town.

Also the Kent messenger group (countywide), and the more locally sittingbourne rags, all fearure weekly reports and previews too.

I think we can all agree the king of promotion are the Wightlink Warriors, and them seemingly never stop promoting thier club. Even they found island residents at recent meetings gave stumbled across the racing whilst claiming they never knew speedway existed on the Island.

What that tells me is even with a consistently high energy promotional effort, people will always slip through the net. Can most clubs do more? Certainly, but actually when you scratch under the surface there are plenty of clubs doing a hell of a lot of work out their to bring more people in.

Put post code in sat nav and we were near track but brick bollards in road. One of the locals told us how to get to other side.  As you said spacious car park.

May I recommend the upper tier in the main stand, towards the first bend end offers one of the Best views in the stadium.

It doesnt need to be in Germany. But these meetings need a club/track/promotion that is willing to take the financial risk of running them. This meeting was originally set to be ridden in late April. I guess DMSB have done their best to find a new track over the summer to save face in UEM.

All FIM lt meetings have been called off, and now LT of nations in NL as well. Personally I’m surprised this meeting is going a head.

You make a fair point sir. Yeah I am surprised also with various travel restrictions in different territories that speedway still has international events. Guess again your right, we should just be thankfully any meetings atm.

A very talented British team indeed and one with a few seasons left at u23 level. The more trips to Europe these lads get the better.

This was the second (if not third) track in Germany willing to host the meeting. At this time (especially since it seems all other track racing in Germany has been cancelled dueto covid), one should just ve happy that there is a meeting to ride in.

Why does it need to be in Germany,?plenty of tracks that aren't in a field in the middle of the know where, all across Europe.

  6. The pits look like a building side, without even a level floor or a roof. Why do we keep sending international riders to some dump of a farm in a middle of no where without infrastructure?

Starts taking it towards mickey mouse sports like grasstrack.

This is supposed to a professional sports major European Championship, not a gypos weekend in a field.

Anyway anyone live streaming this, my original source has got zero phone signal.

Thanks for the info. Hope you can get out there and do your job again soon. As for the PA, it really would be worth investing in a couple of decent speakers facing the grandstand. Not hugely expensive and would make things so much better. Sorry I had a go at the announcer but a muffled voice in the background is extremely poor and it needs fixing properly, not just tweaking to make it clearer. Worth doing.

Nothing to appologise for, everyone pays thier money and is entitled to thier opinion. When I ve criticised things in the past I ve been far less eloquent and balanced...

Couple of things from last night. No center green commentator. All we got was some muffled announcer who we gave up trying to understand what was being said. Couldn’t hear the race times and rider changes. The announcer shows little to no enthusiasm and there is a distinct lack of atmosphere. The fans don’t make any noise and tepid polite hand clapping is not what this sport is about. The presentation severely lacks. A center green presenter whipping up a crowd is what is needed.

I am actually the centre green presenter at Kent, although due to local covid restrictions we are very limited to what we can do.  This season has been limited to a pre match coin toss, and post match interviews.

In the past we have done interviews during the meeting but as you ve heard yourself the sound system is not the best. And its pretty pointless interviewing anyone whilst tractors are out as well.

As for Glenn in the box, (when you are stood somewhere you can hear clearly...) there aren't many people better at getting all the relevant info out there, whilst dealing with all the refs commands as Glenn (and indeed his mentor Derek).  I think people would genuinely be shocked at how much goes on in the box, frankly anyone who does that job has my undivided respect.

Its fair to say the quality of the sound system has been a thorn in the side of the speedway since day 1, but i do know they ve had various sound engineers in over the years. So whilst there has only been minor improvements, that isn't through the lack of trying.

I don't know for certain, but knowing we have a very tight curfew due to noise concerns from a couple of the neighbours, I imagine that has prevented them just plonking a couple of huge speakers on the greyhound track.

Really great to read your various posts on the meeting and the stadium. I will share them with the club management, as when someone highlights all the positives that are happening you'd like to think they will take on board the constructive criticisms as well as the compliments.

As for the crowd being quiet, despite air horns and the like being banned, I ve never heard us described as being quiet before. But I speak to many of my mates and many are still in awe of the speed, skill, and ruthlessness the step up in leagues has provided.

Many fans are still getting their heads around the fact that the Poole Pirates are actually at Central Park.

Nice to see soo many Poole fans, and getting to interview Midlo was an unexpected surprise.
