Appreciated was definitely a rush of emotions although you may regret it:D Eastbourne are certainly moving in the right direction and do take care of their riders and reap the rewards of the development. They are also a side that does look at ability over anything else and the track at Arlington certainly sorts out those with the skill sets from those that don't.

I hope that there is some level of MSDL for the Lakeside Seagulls to take part in but with ghost teams gone it only leaves Birmingham & Eastbourne?

All a bit quiet on the MSDL front isn't it. Eastbourne have said they will have a bit of an old-fashioned 2nd half for NDL / MSDL riders after Championship matches of four races to give them some track time and also to let the crowd filter away, rather than rush out , to help keep people distanced.

As my opinions are no longer considered part of debate or interest to the blinkered many i wont bother anymore. Speedway can poke it

Please carry on posting. Your views are always put across in a clear way and never seek to  be deliberately annoying.

Sometimes I agree with you and sometimes I don't. You are always welcome at Eastbourne where you can see the club is setting out to develop their own riders and to have a 'ladder' within the club for them to progress: MSDL to NDL to Championship. If you are good enough etc

It's that same sort of progression ladder you find in many instances in working life...makes sense to me.

  3. Bumper edition of Eastbourne online magazine Flying High now out. Packed with stuff. In fact, so much to read that I haven't had time to get through half of it.

What a nice surprise to find Lee Kilby is coming to Eastbourne for 2021...successful clubs need a good team on track and a good team behind the scenes and the Eagles going very much that way. Success breeds success.

Some quite wide-ranging stuff  in there, as well, that goes beyond Eastbourne.

And it's free - what a gift to fans from the club you support.

My only complaint is that I've not been asked back to do another column but guess that's good news for everyone else.:)

  4. Shocked there is no IoW. What went wrong. I thought I hadn't seen much of Barry Bishop recently.

Mildenhall will need some help from other clubs to put a meaningful fixture list together. It will need a bit of creative thinking but Sunday afternoons in the summer Mildenhall is pretty good place to be. Speedway and a bit of plane spotting - no variety though with the planes!

Hopefully not too much longer... looking forward to seeing how things go this year in the nl

Yes, me too. Hopefully here at Eastbourne we will get plenty of racing at Arlington and also the chance to go and re-visit some NDL friends from the recent past, such as Mildenhall, the nouveau riche at Sittingbourne and, of course, that great day out over the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Bring it on.

Is there a date set for any announcements? Fixtures? What teams are competing? Etc... Not long now until the season starts...

Just to know what the confirmed teams are would be nice...

My guess is things are well advanced and remember we are probably 3 months from when racing starts. In normal times that would be around Christmas and that's when NDL is usually sorted. So my guess, is not long now.

You are discussing the wrong part of the statement.

League Speedway will be governed by the 50% or 4000, whichever is lower. Which would be fine for most except a 'bumper' bank holiday crowd

Cardiff would be a different matter ... perhaps July will be under different rules ?

    Welsh rules

Any increase in numbers in the National leagues a boost for producing more quality young riders.

there is a rumour that a new track wishes to join.... hope this is true

Did you see Flying High 3 - part one of a feature on 2nd leg of KO Cup final in 1985 which Eagles fans fondly remember. You can access it through club website for free.

  9. Eastbourne have said they were interested in having an NDL outfit for the 2021 and running a 'second team'.

That would be quite a boost to the sport as a whole and for up-and-coming riders in the South East.

Not sure if they would want to join the league but some open meetings at that level could be attractive and help bring riders on.

I suppose it would depend on how big the league was.

Quite a few riders around, I would imagine, who might enjoy riding for the Eagles, especially when they could see a progression route.

There is something worthwhile about 'growing your own'.

By the way, the news of a possible NDL team was given in the club's online magazine Flying High 3, before anyone accuses me of day dreaming.

for any team to be able to line up as expected ...... fans will have to be allowed to enter and leave the track viewing areas in an organised manner  - so crowd marshalls will be needed.  Limits will have to be put on how many fans can congregate in their favourite areas (e.g. start line , first and second bends )  Tracks with grandstands will have to tape off seating to ensure spacing, tracks with grassy piles of mud will have to be somehow provide spacing between spectators. Access to snack bars will have to be marshalled.

One COVID  case and the entire sport will be closed down with racing behind closed doors only.

Lets see if any spectator sports get the go ahead for fans to attend before May.

What you set out is not rocket science and lots of sports clubs have already done that. Football clubs have had fans in and so have stock cars.

There are people around who know how to do these things and no doubt they will share it with others who ask.

They couldn't possibly have done that could they? After crushing all the nomad sides and forcing good honest people out of the sport.

Would make good sense. Still have some loyal NDL fans, would offer extra local derbies against Kent in two divisions and a great chance to keep developing riders ready for the next 5 years (cough cough) of rising star program.

Eastbourne are encouraging local youngsters,  where they can.  Makes sense for all sorts of reasons. Wise to express an interest and see what evolves

ah yes from the person who stated the AGM had already been held.

Interest from "several" Prem & Champs clubs to enter sides is encouraging (providing they actually know and care about running a 2nd team). As ever with the shockingly late NDL meetings there is limited time to prepare or complete team building before the "May start date" if the rules & entrants are even decided at the first meeting. One of the few good things about British speedway is the National League and if it is spoilt by those in higher tiers wanting it run their way such as 4 man teams run as second halves and double headers for the standalone clubs then a lot of what is good in the sport will be lost forever.

Eastbourne have expressed an in interest in running an NDL team

Why are people talking about an app like it’s just something to use on race night? As an example consider the Premier League and Moto GP apps, they are packed with stuff to keep people interested in between matches / race weekend so that when the next event comes around people are champing at the bit to be there or watch it however they can. Interviews, gossip, facts and figures, fantasy league etc etc. There is so much that technology can offer people when they aren’t at a speedway meeting, with perhaps a scorecard and a little bit of interaction on race night. People can still buy a paper programme if they want but why not offer a digital version too?

Like it or not we are in a digital / smartphone age and if speedway wants to even begin to think about having a future then embracing that is absolutely vital.

Exactly. App is always there for you - just up to club to provide the content.

  14. Eastbourne announced a few weeks ago that they would be making an evening at speedway more interactive and are looking at developing an app.

It gives the club all sorts of options in relation to the scorecard and putting out material during a match. However, they were very clear there would still be a printed programme and announcements / interviews for those who want. It doesn't have to be either/or.

People also talk about a big screen - great if you have one like King's Lynn but I suspect that was paid for on the back of stockcar money - they are expensive to instal.

App is the way forward and it is not just a young person's thing.

Missing riders 2021 ! More like missing fans ? As if it's true the government have decided ( news talk ) that 1 of the vaccines has been taking away from the north part of the country to give to the south part so if your a kent Eastbourne fan etc you should see some speedway... !!!

Yep, everyone in Sussex and Kent has had their two jabs.

Kent Access Permit [the Kermit] extended to now include Sussex.

Kings v Eagles second week in February to allow vaccine to fully work. Return the following weekend.
