  2. Marshall with red flag standing out in middle of track.... I've seen one standing out into the track with a yellow one (as per my post a few pages ago, lol) Cook was slowing down as you say.... and of course as we all know speedway bikes have no brakes. Er, just sayin. Apologies in advance. The previous post. Er, page 40 it was, sorry, they don't have 'Chapter' tags yet for this thread.

    Lions v Glasgow 17th August

If you have a spare few days you might want to read the Eastbourne v Glasgow thread, about 50 pages so far....
  4. Does seem to be the fair(er) way to do it. Does football not also usually ban for a certain number of matches, usually anyway e.g. 2 matches, 3 matches (excluding the bigger scale stuff of course such as the Frenchman that made the quote about fishing boats and seagulls, and the Uruguayan with cannibalistic tendencies). Then there's the doubling up / doubling down factor and how is that best apportioned. It opens up another question i.e. if the punishment is upon the rider and for that matter the club he was representing at the time of the offending incident then why should his other team riding in a different league be affected, just a passing thought, don't want to be the catalyst for another 20 pages, let's just pretend I never even mentioned it.
  5. Its times like this that I reckon I'm finished with speedway.
  6. Sorry mate, think this line is probably at least part copyright of "Chris116" two pages earlier
  7. What about redesigning the bikes.... hovercraft speedway. I guess it'll never take off.
  8. It was entertaining though
  9. If you don't have Capricornia its worth sampling. For me its up there with bsm and e&s&m. Haven't thus far bothered with FT and OverflowT, unfortunately I don't have a spare three hundred quid, although I have all the regular issue stuff so loads of overlap anyway. Ahem, apologies to others, er back on topic yeah I do follow speedway
  10. Er, you're saying Saracen Park in Possil is similar to the Principality Stadium, Cardiff?? Entirely similar
  11. Ah, but not just planet earth Speedway does take place on planet earth, although some of the folk that watch it are on a different one.
  12. If you google more you might also find there's even a blue sky mine and a blue sky mining company Especially, er, at midnight
  13. "Blue sky most of the time" so its a fair shout
  14. I've a better one than that. Ok it was a long time ago, picture this scene, its summer of 1991, its Div 2, Powderhall Stadium, Arena Essex are in town, with a team of heat leaders, Petersen (10 plus ave), Karger (10 plus ave), Mogridge (9 point ave), Andy Galvin (prob was also about 9 ave), Troy Pratt (7.5 ave), and their reserves were a bit handy as well. Edinburgh are being royally, er, done over (it was awful to watch) the home riders are being overtaken on their own track, it is nearing the end of the third lap, an Arena Essex rider is flying and completing an overtake of one of the home riders (actually it was an undertake i.e. taking the inside line), enter.... the starting marshall complete with his Monarchs colours comes right out into the middle of the track with his one lap to go flag and impedes the Arena Essex rider such that he had to abort his manoeuvre and remain behind the otherwise hapless Monarchs rider. At least the starting marshall's inadvertent intervention prevented the score being more than the circa 20 points gap that Arena Essex won by so a worthwhile contribution and surely accidental of course., well done that man.
  15. You say 25% Stevie Worrall, 75% Paul Starke, never Charles Wright. Not the case imho. If putting percentages on it, more like 60% Charles Wright, although a racing accident as has been said. If you look at the different angles, the rear view showed Starke moving out to the fence, but that's a natural line for a rider to take coming out of the 2nd bend, at the time coming out of the 2nd bend Starke was ahead so he was entitled to go out to the fence and a natural line to take, coming out of the 2nd bend Wright was behind and yes he had more speed, that's why he overtook Starke, but he should have seen Starke and the natural line he was taking out to the fence and taken account of it, instead he was going so fast that he quickly shot past Starke and as he did he clattered Starke who was by now further out to the fence and the natural line that Starke was already on or taking. That's obvious on the side view, and while it looks rather different on the rear view, its the side view that is the truer reflection on what actually happened. If you take it from Starke's point of view he was following the natural line coming out od the 2nd bend out to the fence down the back straight and he got taken out by somebody clattering him on his way past. As the car insurance forms question asks "If one thing could have prevented this accident what would it be?" then the answer to that question is that if Wright had stayed behind Starke there would have been no contact and no accident. Although I agree with others that all four back would have been a fairer way to deal with it and just a genuine racing accident. Starke knew nothing about it, he would've needed eyes in the back of his head to see Wright. On slowing it down and replaying it a few times that's obvious.
  16. Folk hoping another team gets beat - of itself that isn't vindictiveness. Its the spiteful comments that accompany it that are vindictive. That everyone is entitled to support whoever they want - absolutely but its a very different thing to make hateful spiteful comments at every turn and effectively troll any thread that has another particular team in the topic and make vindictive comments continually and repeatedly. That is inflammatory behaviour and no way for anyone to behave and rather sad. As you say everyone is entitled etc, and most of us would congratulate anyone winning anything as I do myself. However, there is poor etiquette on the part of an isolated few engaging in triumphalism (Google defines as being "Excessive exultation over one's success or achievements") which is in poor taste, especially combined with the aforementioned spiteful and vindictive trolling. There is simply no place for such behaviour on a public forum.
  17. Sounds as if that was in early 80's when you had Joe Owen (11 point average), Rod Hunter (10.5 ave), Bobby Beaton (10.25), and Alan Emerson (about 8 point ave). That was some team!!
  18. Unfortunately, you are right of course.
  19. You say "chucking money". Whereas they spent most of it on purchasing the stadium, repairing it, overhauling it and improving it as well as the track. The real benefit would appear to have been in a generally competitive team compared to previously being at the bottom of the league and having stability. It isn't that long since Dickson left so give it time.
  20. No, this is a public place, and it is incumbent upon us all to behave with maturity. If you can't then perhaps it is you whom should consider as you have suggested.
  21. Why the small-minded sarcasm and vindictiveness, really there's no need. You say "your". I never mentioned a team.
  22. Yes its a forum. But opinions should be without vindictiveness. There's no place for vindictiveness and immaturity.
  23. Hhhhmmm. I see that as well. But there's fewer people following the sport and however its done, if we all want speedway to continue, we're going to have to pay more on average (no pun intended) per head to support it and enable the sport to continue. Partly for that reason as time has gone on I've become less partisan and more appreciative of all clubs and just appreciate the sport. That's why I don't like to see vindictiveness being shown, it isn't banter, its vindictiveness and just no need for it.
  24. That's tremendous. Something the small-minded brigade would probably cite as a "money bags" factor. But really we need to keep all speedway clubs going, all of us, although sadly that concept would be too much for the partisan and vindictive-minded among us.
