I think the problem is that there is little evidence of them doing anything. Comets, enjoying great success this year, have 7 known outstanding fixtures (home and away in the League, KO Cup, and Diddy Shield plus a league match against Lakeside). Of these 7, only 2 are currently included under "Fixtures" on their website and there have been, so far as I am aware, no public statements concerning this situation. This hardly reflects a promotion doing everything in their power to "do what they can do".

Do they not understand other teams' fans' frustration at not being able to plan to follow their team? And do they not want to give as much forward information in order to maximise income from visiting fans?

It’s all Glasgow’s fault apparently. Lakeside and Peterborough still on for the treble and appear to have their fixtures booked in.

Well I say that, apart from Lakesides league fixture against Workington which has still to be arranged. That’ll be Lakeside’s fault.

    Workington can do no wrong!!

  2. Easy to blame the BSPA, but to be honest, the only thing certain at the beginning of the season is that the play offs can't be arranged until the end of the season.

Questions need to be asked of the promotions causing delays in the cup competitions. Why are cup matches being left so late in the season to arrange?!

Also, why should the BSPA step in and say the Play offs should be 5/6/7 Oct when there is a perfectly good weekend the one before where (injuries permitting) it appears all teams would have their riders available?! Albeit Workington have since arranged to race Edinburgh in the cup. They knew the situation with the play offs before Edinburgh qualified for the next round of the cup.

At the end of the day, everything points towards Workington delaying things unnecessarily. No issues with the other teams still involved!

  3. Can't see any good reason for the play off between Workington and Glasgow not being next weekend and the cup fixture against Edinburgh being the following. Other than Workington running scared of Cook and trying to be awkward over it.

Like has already been mentioned, Workington should have raced their cup fixtures before now and are also the only team in the league to not have completed their home matches. Poor show really and obviously nothing at all to do with them after all the world is against them apparently

I agree with jamlad to an extent, Cookie shouldn't be riding in GP's , Premiership and the Championship...bums on seats for who ?? Glasgow thats about it ..I'm sure if any other team signed the likes of Woffinden and or Pederson in our league there would be plenty of disgruntled teams, bit of a difference between ambition and desperation

Did Stonehewer not ride in the GP’s when at Workington?!

And Cook rode for you last year, fast forward 12 months and he shouldn’t be allowed in the league that he committed to for the rest of his Speedway career?

Sounds like you may be running scared of the Cookie Monster in the play offs!

Cook riding in the Championship is a complete farce , he’s a (supposedly) GP rider for Christ sake, shows money talks you’ve tried to buy the league for the past few years let’s hope it goes to Lakeside, Peterborough or Workington . Not a bit of wonder British Speedway is on its arse and top riders prefer riding in Poland/ Sweden , nothing but a corrupt bunch of team managers running it into the ground .

“Tried to buy the league...”. Is that the same as trying to run a successful business by constructing a team that will entertain and have a chance of winning some silverware?!

What next, Team GB (backed by the same people) trying to buy the World Cup?!

“Nothing but a corrupt bunch of team managers running it into the ground” is that apart from the Lakeside, P’boro and Workington promotion that you want to see win the title?!

Is it safe to assume your team didn’t make the play offs?!

  6. So Peterborough confirmed top of the table and have a choice from Glasgow, Lakeside and Workington.

Can anyone see past them selecting Lakeside given the neutral track and victory there last night?! It would also create a northern and southern semi final which would be good for all fans.

I can understand why you may think we are ungrateful but its frustration with under performance that has built up all season and boiled over with the Edinburgh fixture, and another pumping. We have resources to match any club in our league, you've got to wonder how did it get to this position.

Anyway, back to tomorrow hopefully it is dryer and we get the inevitable over in one weekend.

I agree it’s frustrating, incredibly frustrating. More so because of the makeup of the team at the start of the year and the thirst for success from both fans and promotion. However, I don’t feel much if any of the poor form is down to Stewart Dickson not being in charge.

Yes, tomorrow I think we will be lucky to see any racing unfortunately.

The Ipswich fan should just concern himself with his own club , which comes in for regular criticism from its own followers .

He was, it wasn’t aimed at Glasgow in any way. It was me that felt the words were pertinent given the negativity on this forum towards the Glasgow TM and promotion over the past few months.

It’s very easy to sit here and criticise and spend the promotions money etc. At the end of the day the guys that ride the bikes take a pretty significant proportion of the responsibility for the lack of positive results we have had this year.

On paper at the beginning of the year our team looked unstoppable, plenty praising the promotion etc but things then go pear shaped - Kerr’s injury, bombers persistent engine issues, Worrall’s incredibly poor form and all of a sudden it’s because we have a ‘fan’ as TM.

  9. Taken from an Ipswich fan on twitter and entirely relevant to some ungrateful and negative Glasgow fans on here...

Rarely use twitter now and I'm shocked at the amount of so called speedway fans who continued slate our club! It's clearly an easy job to run and promote the club! Count yourselves lucky to have such a great club to support if only you knew what goes on behind the scenes

Evidence? Recent match vs Lakeside, one of the other contenders for a play-off sport and a team with two former Tigers that know Ashfield as well as anyone does. We had to prevent them from gaining even a single point to  help our own cause yet he gave a reserve who had scored 1pt from three rides another ride while the other reserve had scored 7(+1) while the score was 36-23 with 5 heats to go which included their top 3 taking 7 rides. Lakeside could have overturned that gap and secured a point which at the end of season could have been the difference in either team qualifying.
That's is evidence of tactical naivety in my book

That’s a matter of opinion, we were 13 in front at that stage against, like you say, 2 former tigers who were big favourites to win the heat. I’d argue that with James being out in 2 of the next 3 heats, it would make more sense to keep him for those rather than have him race in 3 in a row. He scored 5 out of 6 and potentially won us the match with that return.

i bet you’d have criticised if James had been in that heat and scored less in his other 2, or would you have praised the move?!

Tone suggests that you do. By all means contribute to the debate, be good to get the rationale for many things from the inside.

Fans frustration has boiled over this year, its only human to vent it.

Contrary to what people on here think, there is no major issue with team morale, a contrast to last years position when there was a total breakdown and that was during Stewart’s rein - not that I blame him for that, but I do have to laugh when people blame our poor form on the new team manager.

I dont have an issue with people expressing opinions but 1 or 2 on here are constantly saying the same things with absolutely no evidence to back up their comments but I suppose that’s the issue with online forums!

I believe that when a rider is initially loaned to a club, that club are then able to subsequently re-loan the said rider to another club as a double up/down and they receive any subsequent loan fee.

If I am correct, Glasgow would be dealing directly with Belle Vue, and Edinburgh would not be involved in the doubling down of their asset.

I would also be surprised that Glasgow, who initiated the Cook deal, would not have been aware any fixture clashes with his GP schedule.

BTW, as the result, turned out, Ben Barker netting 14 out of a possible 18, imo, was a decent guest replacement for the absent Cook.

Agreed and that’s my understanding as well.

The glasgow promotion were very aware of the clashes and signing the highest averaged rider in the league does allow an adequate guest to be secured.

I’ve been happy with the Cook signing and him being absent last night did not hurt us at all, poor performances from Harris and the reserves along with, what would appear to be an unfit Greaves, cost us any chance of securing a point.

Think the writing was on the cards from our first home meeting when Richie went through the tapes in ht 1 and Sarj was sent out to replace him BEFORE the team manager had made a decision on whether he was going off 15m or not.

Need either Stewart Dickson (and I was never his greatest fan after way Ian Steel was treated) or Michael Max (one of the most knowledgeable guys in speedway) as team manager as current one is tactically naive to say least.

I think you’ll find Michael Max is heavily involved on a tactical basis when it comes to team management both during and post Stewart’s tenure but hey, some guys on here seem to know about all the ins and outs behind the scenes or so they like to believe

If only I had a £1 for every time the same 2/3 guys on here say “Glasgow’s management have a lot to answer for”/“a fan promoted to manage the team” etc usual nonsense with no basis for the accusations.

The bottom line is, the likes of Harris, Worrall and Sarjeant have been significantly poorer than  everyone expected this year. People saying we were wrong to let Richie go, his scores were shocking, he’s lost more than a point off his average.

We gambled on keeping Harris and that’s not looking like paying off unfortunately.

  14. Return leg now rained off with an early call from Glasgow.

The ironic thing is plenty will slate Glasgow for calling it off early, perhaps the same ones that are going mental about last nights late call off who are also the same that keep saying “Speedway is dying in this country” at every opportunity! There’s no pleasing some people!
