There will be no massive bidding war as I believe the recent sky deal is alot different to that of the one before where monies switched hands. I thibk the previous involved paying for the rights with additional payments for live meetings, I think the latest deal was purely paid on tv matches only as sky gave up the title sponsorship. If the bspa are clever, they could break the competitions down and deal with different broadcasters for different products or even embrace new technology and allow exposure via sponsors Its not only sky or bt in the mix, itv4, eurosport, or another new crazy platform which would generate income IF you believe that 100,000 speedway fans subscribe just for speedway....

Exactly How Much Weaker Is This Years League?
CookieIpswich replied to Shale Searcher's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Until buster sorts out no double uppers then the sport will not be taken seriously and its at the level now where riders should not be professional and should get income from elsewhere.well some will be pro still but you get what I mean we live in a world of status Would be better if teams owned the bikes, paid the costs etc and riders just turned up to race then what they earn prize money wise would be enough over a 30 meeting season But sponsorship and gate receipts would have.to increase to allow teams to do this -
If I ran a speedway club Each team would be introduced and they do one lap as an introduction to the crowd followed by a couple minutes warm up then chequered flag is out. As they are presented local kids line the inside of the centre green all round the track waving club flags. As soon as heat 1 is two laps in the heat 2 bikes must line up ready to roll out after last bike from previous race pulls off track. Interval entertainment, dancers with up to date music, I'd have two old riders per home meeting attend and complete 4 laps each and do a top gear style leader board, this allows old and new fans to appreciate previous legends. Maybe followee by a competition to win signed rider club goodies and free entry tickets to the next meeting. Roll the boys out again after the interval and have your evening dusted within an hour Of course unless injuries or stoppages are severe Over an hour is a piss take

7000 is fine for free if you get food and beverage takings but which club does?

So how about meetings start earlier All teams have junior teams which will replace the national league, all 4 rider teams. They race over a 6 heat format before the meeting so 3 rides each then the main sides meet over 13 heats but 6 riders teams. The top junior team rider acts as the substitute rider for any injuries or exclusions during the regular meeting.

I guess dwindling attendances mean theres no atmosphere really anyway plus you don't get the commentary

I'm clever enough but buster won't call me -

Regionalised leagues 6 riders teams 13 heat format Every team to have a 4 riders junior team Less riders to pay, less heats, more local derbies so in hope, the best possible crowd figures North - 12 teams South - 12 teams 11 home fixtures league 11 away fixtures league Regional league cup 4 groups of 3 Minimun of 2 home 2 away fixture more if teams progress British Cup where all teams enter potential for more meetings Make the bikes more basic and standard in terms of tuning etc Should then be ok to make it a £12 sport kids free At least 30 meetings for riders to earn across 3 competitions

Quite surprised bsb got 30,000 back in the early 00's but maybe more people have sky sports now

Put it this way, its a team, the club are running, changes may happen, and its something to build on into 2018.... look towards the long term if possible in speedway

Take away the product of League, Heat format and tactical substitution rules etc. How can British Speedway sell itself as a brand and bring the ££££ in for the Sport as a whole? Any suggestions

CookieIpswich replied to Knightime's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
What if a group of promoters joined together to create a british lions team or similar and entered the polish league but home meetings took place at different tracks in the UK? -

This is why a Northern and Southern split with 6 rider teams built to a 38 point limit would have been perfect thats 120 riders which would have included all current EL riders even the GP ones if they wanted to stay up while promoting the top end of the national league, there were enough riders to make this happen with zero doubling up. Yeah guests would still be required but you could limit the number of appearances and only get guests from the opposite region so fans don't see the same riders recycled. Speedway have once again papered over the cracks
-
BSPA should have split 20 clubs into a North and South premiership if you will with a league sponsor, 13 heat format 6 rider teams. A two year plan for each club to have a junior team consisting of 4 riders teams racing the same night BEFORE the main meeting in a 6 heat format so 3 rides each with a 7 round individual championship split between North, East, South and West with the top 4 progressing to the grand final with lots of development/training days with ex and current riders. After this period the leagues expand to 16 teams each to get the NL teams in Add a league and ko cup British championship to be a 3/4 round series maybe sponsored by someone like Vanarama who put £50k in as an overall prize fund with a brand new Van to the champ maybe get in association with a van manufacture etc
-
The biggest issues and important steps needed to grow the sport have once again been papered over, I like the rebranding but a sh!t can still be called a poo, a turd or a skid but be the same thing!

Doubling up will kill speedway if someone rides both leagues how many meetings is that per week on average?
