  1. ...and possibly a degree of sporting integrity, too. Do you watch football? Whatever you may think of the sport, I think we would all love speedway to enjoy just a small percentage of the popularity that football generates. Football seems to operate well enough with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw. Can you imagine football awarding an extra league point if you don't lose by too much? Or giving the away team an extra point for a draw? The league tables in speedway are a mess. Also, if you are watching Man Utd against Bournemouth and United go 3-0 up, do you think it would be a good idea for Bournemouth's next goal to count double "to make it interesting"? Some may say you can't compare speedway to football - but I (obviously!) think you can - and should.

In My View By Phil Rising

Personally, I really don't have a problem with riders 'doubling up' in different leagues. What I find frustrating is fixture clashes causing riders to be absent. Fixed nights should pretty much solve this, shouldn't it?
  3. It may sound perverse -as most contributors on here have disagreed with my views - but I am actually pleased to see that the current system clearly has support from 'the fans'!
  4. So glad you brought that one up - that genuinely was an excellent idea
  5. Fair play, HJD. For what it's worth, I don't like the Away Goals rule in football either! Thanks for a reasonable response to my comments though.
  6. This is the kind of meeting that should attract a decent attendance, with supporters of Premiership clubs all over the country - which is good. And the meeting is on a Saturday, which gives people more time to travel - which is also good. So who decides it is a good idea to have a start time of 7.30pm? It's a Saturday, ffs. With 22 heats to complete it's unlikely to be finished until 10.30. Do we not want kids to attend speedway anymore? Why are we not starting at 5 - 5.30pm?

Do We Still Need The Play-offs

Too many people are in favour of the end of season play-offs for them ever to be scrapped completely. If your club is involved in them I guess you are happy - but those that don't qualify have to finish their league programme (relatively) early, then sit and watch while 4 clubs have (up to) 4 extra meetings. I know I'm not the first to suggest this but the ideal scenario (in my opinion) would be to amalgamate the top 2 divisisions into 1 big league which would then be split into North and South divisions. The 2 divisional champions could then have a 2 leg play-off to become national champions.

    Leicester Lions 2017

Lol. What did happen to Dag Lovaas?!

    Rye House 2017

I would say it's now looking like RH will miss out (narrowly) on the play-off spot. Even if that proves to be correct, I would also say that the new RH management deserve enormous credit for the efforts they have made promoting speedway at Hoddesdon this season. There aren't that many people around these days who want to devote so much time (and money!) to keeping our tracks alive. They have given it a real go this season and I hope their enthusiasm keeps up for 2018.
  10. To be fair to al concerned at KL last night, they did rattle through the 1st match very quickly - showing that there was a concious effort to get both matches completed within a reasonable time. The 2 mins was being hit as soon as each race ended! For the rain to start literally as soon as the 1st match ended was very unfortunate. Even driving home, the rain seemed to dry up just a few miles from KL.
  11. Ludicrous decision to start at 7.30pm
  12. If King's Lynn eventually do confirm that Thursday will be a double header v Poole & Rye House, one would hope that following the rather 'difficult' double header v Wolverhampton they would at least bring the start time forward to say 6.30pm, maybe even 6pm. I know it wouldn't be a convenient start time for everyone, but surely it would be better than having the 2nd match dragging on towards midnight...
  13. No confirmation of KL v RH on the KL website - or on SGB !
  14. Fair comment from Rob B and A Orlov - but the point I was making with my post was that in the case of King's Lynn v Rye House (and RH v KL), there does not seem to be any mad scramble to fit the fixtures in! Perhaps the clubs spoke and couldn't agree an dates, and have now given up. An odd situation, given RH's recent team changes in an apparent desperate attempt to make the play-offs.
  15. King's Lynn v Rye House was postponed on 19 July. Exactly a month later, you have to wonder why this has not yet been re-arranged. And you have to wonder why neither club seems willing to make any public comment on the matter.

    Rye House 2017

Monday 31 July. Now 12 days since the away meeting at King's Lynn was postponed (again), not yet re-arranged. A date for one of the home meetings v Swindon has been outstanding since the start of the season. Weather forecast for Wednesday's match not looking good. The RH fixture list could get complicated...

14/6/17 Rye House V Belle Vue

So Harris will also be missing when RH go to Swindon on Thursday...
  18. There can be little doubt that the King's Lynn management (and the SCB) will be aware of these messages. The opportunity is there for them to respond...

    Leicester V Rye House 29.05.17

Shads, that is a good point. I drove up for my first visit to the track yesterday with a few friends. The satnav took us to the shopping centre but we still couldn't see where the track was, even though we were virtually on top of it! I'm not saying this to criticise the Leicester management - I know they have had a difficult time there keeping speedway running in recent years. Better signage would help, as would an audible PA system (another gripe which could equally be applied to some other tracks.)
