Have a feeling the Oxford meeting was not against Swindon, but the away team won. If someone has the 1975 fixture list this can be looked up.

Edit the sad part of me has just looked it up and it was 1976 when Swindon won at White City 35-43. The Oxford meeting must be a figment of my imagination as Oxford didn’t run the same day. We are talking way back when I was a 17 year old lad.

I think white city took over from Oxford and only lasted a few seasons.

Soren karlsson brings back memories and soren sjosten riding for Birmingham.

Pretty sure I was at that meeting. Went on the coach to an Oxford meeting in the morning and then onto White City. Two meetings in one day. Had a running race around the white City track if I recall.

This coach went to the afternoon meeting and then on the way back went to Reading vs Birmingham, I think.

We wasn't  told on the way that we would be going to two meetings so my dad was lucky he had enough money on him.

  3. My memories from early 70s until closing...

Collecting hubby bubbly bottles for a penny each.

Winning at white city at a Saturday afternoon meeting in the mid 70s.

Going on the coach to Bradford to witness their biggest away defeat at the time...kenny carter was in his last season..

Watching hans nielsen winning by nearly half a lap for oxford

My favourite swindon rider in the 80s was bo petersen...really thought they would win something with crump, nilsen and simmons

The smell of the bikes and fried onions from the burger van.

Watching swindon getting a 5-1 in the last heat to win at coventry

Standing on a cold bank in the dark watching a tractor going around..

    Some good, some bad..

Surely many of the 'new' houses were there when the Robins were still racing?!

And what are the on site cranes doing today??

Apparently you could lean out of the window of the house next to the pits and rev the bikes up.

There was talk Andy Hobbs, owner of Man and Van and many properties, based at Stone Lane, Lydiard Millicent was interested in investing.  His place is outside of Swindon council boundary. The Aussie guys used to have workshops there. Swindon council have no interest in much sporty, arty or recreational it seems, closing a leisure centre, two pitch n putt courses, golf course, museum etc.,

Let's hope Andy Hobbs is the Roman Abramovich of Lydiard.

I drove past on the way to golf today and I would say putting the grandstand together is an optimistic claim. It looked to me like they had moved the units so they could clear the old main car park in time for Taylor Wimpey to start building the houses they aren't allowed to build until we have a fully functioning stadium! I sound cynical but I'm just being realistic.

The cranes have disappeared so maybe you are right. They look like rows of bus shelters stacked on top of each other.

I think I would like to see a few bricks being laid before I get too optimistic.

  7. Count me in tricky.

That's two....only five months to get the other 14.

How about a point for correctly predicting the number of guests in each match!

    Haha

    3pts for a correct result

5pt bonus for correct result....excluding draws
