21st century heathen

The U.S. would be fantastic if BSI could get some good promotion over there. Sporting events in the U.S. are more like stage shows. That's what's needed to bring new fans to speedway. Us hardcore speedway (thought I'd better put speedway in there before stevehone see this ) fans may have to put up with dodgy trakcs for a while until the newbies are so hooked we can get them to go to our age old league tracks for international matches.

I've always thought Spain would be a good new country to take speedway. Just as mad as the Italians for bikes, and there would surely be some interest over there.

Tell me about it :roll: Problem is you get kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. You need to keep pushing the council in the hope they'll pull their finger out and do something. On the other hand you can't afford to p!$$ them off because you need their help. Not to mention the fact that there aint a whole hell of a lot land just lying around doing nothing in the Black Country. Especially when there loads of old mine shafts which tend to just open up overnight in your back garden. (and I thought the school rabbit had just escaped again. :roll: )

What a total snooze fest Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!! Apart from about four races it was intensely boring. Glad I had wait an extra week for it. :roll: Well done to Ryan, Scott and Leigh. I do feel bad for Jason, but his attitude stinks when things go wrong. Tony's attitude was totally proffessional as always, and Jason could learn a lot from him. Don't know what Tony's problem was, because he appeared fit enough. He even said in the interview he felt fine, but perhaps not quite match fit. Nicki was clearly there to pick up whatever he could. I though he did a decent job, and is happy to have limited the damage done tohis position overall. Most disappointed rider is surely Hancock. It was a hell of an opportunity for Greg to get himself right in the mix at the top. He's left himself too much to do now, unless he can win a couple. Did anyone else think the ref was pretty harsh on Brhel. Poor bloke didn't even have time to put fuel in. :roll: :evil:

I can almost mirror that. I'm a christmas baby so I was 3 months old by the time the speedway circus came back to town. I can't really remember a particular match before '83. I remember Bruce riding, and I remember seeing Dave Perks. I have no idea why I remember him but I do. I also remember seeing Lance King have a spin after a match before he signed for us. Along with the Carter 'incident' those are my earliest memories. The first match I remember was Poole at Cradley in '83. Sorry to bring it up Poole fans, but you got hammered 57-21. I remember seeing the TV cameras there for that one. We got to about 35-7 and Erik said we'd go for the white wash. Next race John Davies (I think) aimed himself at King on the first turn, and almost put him through the fence. King recovered to 3rd, but missed out on the paid win by a couple of bike lengths. It was a hell of an effort though from so far back. There was plenty of good old fashioned team riding in that match. Some of todays heat leaders could learn a thing or two from Erik in that match alone. A brilliant team rider, as well as one of the best individual riders to ever grace a speedway track. Great memories.

I can't see them losing the mutli-million dollar sport that is WWE these days. I looked at SSX as a possible but I have a feeling the cricket will get the nod, even though it's a repeat. Like I said, we'll see how big speedway is in the eyes of Sky Sports.

As far as I can see there only seems to be one possible slot for Sky to put the GP on. That is Sunday evening when they could ditch some motor sports magazine type show thingy, and something else which looked so boring I can't remember what it was. That would give them 6pm til 9pm free. Other than that the whole weekend is taken up with live football, cricket, rugby, tennis and golf (if memory serves). Doesn't look very promising. If nothing else we're going to find out just how important speedway is to Sky this weekend. So c'mon Sky this is your chance to prove your doubters wrong.

It's almost as bad as Barratts offering to name the streets on the Dudley Wood site after Cradley's greatest. :evil: When will these people learn. WE JUST WANT OUR SPEEDWAY!!!

The miracle worker who managed to pass someone on that excuse of a track was Renat Gafurov Thanks for clearing that up, but I'm sure I'll forget again. It was a great move though. I was well impressed with the Russians attitude. They must have known they didn't have a realistic chance but the interviews with Roman were great. You'd have thought they were the faves.

Agree with the last two posts. I thought Lukas problem was his gating, not the injury. What about that move by the Russian. On an aweful track, he stuck at to go all the way round the outside of David right on the line. Brilliant ride, and I can't even remember the guys name.

I think that is a bit unfair on Lukas considering the terrible injuries he suffered not long ago. Fair point but he looked OK, and unlike Tony he must have come through the first match feeling alright. Surely if he felt rough he would have pulled out as well. It was a bad crash he had so lets hope he was just having a bad week rather than still suffering ill-effects. Ales was a bit up and down. I just felt that Bo and Tom did such a fantastic job that a little more consistency from the Drymls would have seen the Czechs through. Let's be honest Lukas should have scored more. His gating let him down more than anything, and I don't think the crash would have affected his gating too much.

Fantastic performance. The Brits were brilliant. As I have for the other matches I want to give a quick mention for the unsung heros. Riders who rode above themselves tonight. I thought Bo rode well again, but Tom was brilliant for the Czechs. If only the Drymls had got their act together then the Czechs would have been joining us in the final. Well done to them for a good nights work.

More humble pie for me. I didn't fancy Havy from the outside and he proved me wrong. I said Havy and Deano didn't do that much in first match, and they were brilliant tonight. David was slightly off the pace until his lsat ride. What a start that was! Scotty was better than Monday, and Lee was great again. Well done lads.

Sorry for Tony, and I hope he's back fit soon :-( What a boost for the Brits though. Go get em lads

Well I was wrong, and prepared to admit it. I've never seen Norris so determined or commited. Fantastic display. He was mixing it with the Aussies. It was Havy and Deano who only beat the also rans. (except that move on Todd, class.) All the lads were gating well so I think they'll be OK off the inside gates. Not sure about Havy having to go from the outside in a five man race. Agree that it would have been good to give the young lads the experience. However, would they have been able to outpace the Czechs and the Fins to get us through tonight? Honestly, I doubt it.

I don't think he tired. He seemed to just spin up on the over watered track, and it's a long way from the outside if the bike won't go forward. Then it was just too wet to go wide and make up ground. He did the sensible thing, and took the point rather than trying something silly and finishing last.

Just been talking to a mate about this via SMS. The highlight of the season, nah decade!!! I think Chris Louis was laughing more than any of us. Superb tactics, and his reation to Roman for 'letting' Mikael through was classic. This is the kind of thing you'd expect from the U.S., and Gollob has to be at the bottom of the list of most likely. (along with Max, Rickardsson, Crump.) Anyone who hasn't seen it, make it your lifes ambition. Has to be seen to be believed.
