Good racing today esp from young ace,we were never going to win but ref didnt help young boughen puts the bike down twice and gets put back in,ace lucky not to be put out but then gets taking wide in next race makes a good hard but fair pass and is excluded.changes need to be made to get bickley in the team we need a heat leader !

Speedway is about team strength  4 points from 9 reserve rides speaks for itself.

Not surprisingly in our first season back established strong teams are a big challenge for us.

Leicester were strong right through, they generally outgated the Comets and looked faster on track.

Agree with what has already been stated it was pretty poor form booing young Sam Hagon who was a great guest for the Lion Cubs.

The rainfall radar was bang on with the 16:45 rain forecast.

When sitting in the back straight stand the quality and volume of the PA was not great. Struggled to hear most of Roy's announcements and interviews. Could be related to the stand height relative to speaker position ?.

Some good racing again but a hard day at the office for the Comets. Ace Pijper finally gave the home fans something to cheer with his battling win from behind in heat 11 against Ashton Boughen and Dan Thomson at the 4th time of asking. Personally i thought Ashton should have been excluded in the first running as he came down on his own.

As a first time visitor to the new Workington I struggled to find anything to be negative about. The layout is GREAT , elevated viewing for all spectators, a couple of seated stands , plenty of space and more than acceptable facilities for a brand new track although my wife would suggest the toilets need to be the next area for improvement.

As I was ‘ involved ‘ in the after match racing I can say that the pits are enormous, plenty of room not just for the main teams but second halfers / juniors too.

The staff were all keen, enthusiastic and very welcoming , from the security man at the main gate right through to the BBQ staff afterwards , although they were very overworked !

Good atmosphere and good crowd helped by sensible pricing , brilliant weather, yes, a little dusty but it’s SPEEDWAY after all.

I highly recommend a visit and I will be going again. Massive congratulations to Mr. Bain, Lawson and ALL the volunteers who made this happen.

Cracking review thank you. The team seem to have attention to detail, continuous improvement and crowd satisfaction high on the list of main attributes. They have a strong desire to try to produce good racing without losing sight that the sport is nothing without its fan base so it has to be enjoyable and value for money. Personally i'm looking forward to watching the project develop in the coming seasons and delighted to have the sport back in Worky

Popped up (if that is the right expression) on the 8:20 train from London for the recent Leicester meeting and although the track wasn't great due to the drought like conditions it was an enjoyable meeting. I have to say the stadium should be the blueprint for any future development, on old industrial land,  simple yet functional stadium with great viewing from anywhere. I hope over time they build a ticket office, maybe a bar and better toilets but everything was more than good enough. Also special mention to the home & away fans who made an old bird from London feel very welcome.

Wow great of you to do that and thank you for views. I'm pretty sure the team have all the facilities you mention on the 'to do' list.

  4. I don't think anyone should jump to conclusions about Kyle because he done a few laps round Worky after the meeting. 'Retiring' from competetive Speedway don't automatically mean a guy who has been riding Speedway bikes since he was a young boy doesn't still fancy a skid.

  5. The Chargers fully justified why I believe they are arguably the strongest team in the NDL. The solid team performance required from the Comets sadly didn't materialise, this was  compounded by falls and mechanical failures which effectively contributed to 11 last places. Comets 12 points down after 5 heats and 14 down after 9 were never able to generate enough momentum to seriously look like overturning the deficit though we did manage to reduce it to 8 points after heat 11 following the bizarre disqualification of Alfie Bowtell for not wearing his race jacket, first time I've ever witnessed this one. Top performer for the Comets was Ace Piper with 12 from 5 and the young man is coming along nicely.  Sam had a big off on turn 3 so it was good to see him walk back to the pits after being released from under the air fence.

The Chargers were generally solid throughout, conversely none of their riders had a fall or a mechanical failure . The 3 heat leaders scored good points and were ably supported by Jacob Clouting and Jody Scott . The racing was generally entertaining with the Comets beaten by the better team on the day. Hope the supporters who made the journey from Oxford enjoyed their visit and had a safe journey home.

Should still be a good meeting at the sunny Northside area, little bit of rain today good forecast for 2morrow, with the first rain for over 5 weeks, may mean the track riders a bit different, and don't forget the club is showing ithe GP in the marquee after the meeting, with bbq and can bar available :D  UTC unfortunately I'm on my way to Greece so can't make it

    Poor planning that Neil lol

  7. Good bit of natural watering late yesterday/ overnight will help Steve Lawson with pre meeting water requirements, sure he will be grateful for that. Weather forecast is good for this afternoon.

The Chargers with a full team look the strongest in the league for me personally and will prove a stiff test even with a slightly weakened bottom end. Alfie Bowtell should be a very good guest for Jordan Jenkins after already impressing at Northside for Mildenhall. Bit disappointed Jordan is injured as I was looking forward to watching him following some strong performances in British Speedway over the last two seasons. Henry Atkins is another catching the eye at the minute  putting in some very strong performances in the Championship.

It has to be a solid team performance by the Comets if we are to take the points and go some way toward challenging for the aggregate bonus point when we visit Oxford for the return meeting.

Its been a couple of weeks since most of the team have ridden competetive speedway and there is no substitute for time on the bike. UTC !

  8. We were already down at Cambridge and were disappointed when the meeting was postponed as the rainfall radar sites generally showed Mildenhall to be on the very eastern edge of any precipitation until further on into the evening. May well have been spooked by the weather warning and the BBC who pretty much overhyped the potential weather forecast. There were a couple of heavier showers in Cambridge but nothing cataclysmic.

That's next Sunday! This time last season Kent had ridden one home league match and two away, there were two home league matches in July, August and September. So far this season they've ridden one at home and three away. They have one home meeting next week,  two in July, two in August and one in September. There are only 8 teams in the NDL so meeting are spread out throughout the season.

There was an amateur meeting today, and last week would have been the second NORA meeting but that was cancelled.

Not enough fixtures for sure, Workington have staged 4 Home NDL fixtures out of the 7  scheduled. Only leaves 3 for the rest of the season and one of them is on June 24th.

to be fair to harry his first 2 rides looked like he wasnt interested but his last 2 he looked a different rider

Harry did improve in terms of body language and riding style but still only managed 2 from 5. In his first ride he resembled a novice which suggested he his not getting enough time on the bike. If lack of bike time is one of the contributing factors then that is something Harry can put right and needs to. Worky are sticking by him so that is the least he can do.

  11. Think the Comets got a bit lucky today. the Lion Cubs may well have won but for the disappearance of Ashton Boughen who had been so impressive in the U21 Semi Final and 4th Round of the GB Youth Championship and the unfortunate injury withdrawal of Tom Spencer after a first bend crash in his very first race. With no facility allowed for Boughen the Cubs had only one rider in 3 heats. At 38-33 after heat 12 the Cubs were well in the contest with Max Perry, Joe Thomson, Adam Roynon and Max James making a good fist of it. A home 4-2 and 5-1 in heats 13 and 14 finally seen off the Leicester resistance and secured the points for the Comets.

There was some good speedway on show which duly demonstrated the potential of the track to provide entertaining racing with the right calibre of rider. Connor Bailey was Comets best with a paid maximum and he was well supported by Luke Harrison, Ace Piper and Sam McGurk. Credit to the track staff who managed to subdue dust levels to a minimum on another hot and breezy day. It was good to see a good few Leicester fans in the crowd so thanks to all who made the journey. I hope you enjoyed your visit despite the unfortunate goings on with your No2 rider.

Noticed Roy Clarke was missing again today on the mic so obviously he hasn't fully recovered from his illness, get well soon Roy.

I very much doubt whoever drove him up, would just let him leave and drive him back if they didn’t agree with him! Read into what you will.

Young riders are usually influenced by their elder guardians. Henry Atkins was a lot like this, heavily influenced by his father and that often backfired for him. Thankfully, Atkins seems to have grown up now and is starting to show some potential.

It was suggested his father was with him and could well have been the overwhelming influence in what occurred. Apparently car parks cannot be used as pits for health and safety reasons, this didn't suit and resulted in them leaving. If this is the case it is diabolical, there were a good few Leicester fans who gratefully made the journey and this action may well have cost them a victory bearing in mind the dominance  Ashton demonstrated on track the last couple of weekends. It is these Leicester fans I feel a lot of sympathy for, quite disgraceful actually.

Yes, but the point is it effectively becomes four unless Worky plan to give Foy a ride.

Harry has been sorely lacking in all departments so far not least confidence and looking like he his actually enjoying it. I hope he can rediscover some passion, speed and confidence otherwise i can't see him having a future in speedway. Callum Foy isn't ready for this level from what i have seen to date and i doubt very much he will get a ride from choice.

  14. Looks like Harry drops to reserve on Saturday and Elliot moves into the main body.

No news on whether we will be using a guest or rider replacement for Elliot. Always a bit of gamble using rider replacement in case you lose another rider early in the meeting which may result in only having one rider in a heat in the worst case scenario. Conversely it's also a gamble bringing in an effective guest at Elliot's average. Ace will be the only higher average rider able to take one of his rides .

Looking forward to this fixture and suspect we will need better luck and all round team performance than last week if we are to secure the points. UTC !
