    Unattached British Talent ?

You must be about 12 with those creative reading skills a true fantasist... As for frail little gimp I will put it in WWE terms for you.... remember the Brahma Bull from the late 90's ya man the Rock who kicked Hacksaw Jim Duggan's ass well I'm the Benton Bull... the Rock is a pussy (cat) compared to this frail old gimp.... No one called you out for a fight I just offered you some quality time for a chat so I could impart some common sense manners and etiquette into the Total HACKSAW that you come across to everyone on here... I'm sure I could punch some breeding into you in a very short time... What's up with you did your mummy not show you any love as a child? Regards THJ

    Unattached British Talent ?

Hahaha Pleased you recognise your contribution to life and correct I cant do anything about it you're definitely right about that but if you ever come to Newcastle come and introduce yourself and I am sure I would be able to accommodate you in a stimulating debate... Oh and bring your piece of 2 x 4... because you may say you have never once put any thought into your screen name on a forum (which I very much doubt), and you have in fact consciously made the choice to draw inspiration from a mentally frail psychopath who I guess for you will be a figure of self gratification and abuse to while away the hours choking the chicken; I will certainly be able to find a slot to insert said 2 x 4 if you are brave enough to show your face. Regards THJ Tea break over I need to get back to work...

    Unattached British Talent ?

Honestly I think with that post you have confirmed what the previous poster and others have eluded to... As in your nom de plume like a Hacksaw which is a tool you have confirmed that you are very much Hacksaw (a tool) and as the name you have chosen must obviously refer to a now 66 year old boyhood hero who prances around in Swimming Costumes from the WWE this also gives an insight into your personality. Also may I add you come across like the implement of choice of the original "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, who for the uninitiated is an American professional wrestler, whose character is supposedly that of an American patriot, which sees him use a 2 x 4 length of wood as a weapon , and you are obviously thicker than this 2 x 4 by a long shot... Definitely shorter and thicker (and more plank like). Grow up and if you want to be antagonistic at least put some thought and preferably some humour into it too!!! You HACKSAW? Regards THJ

Honestly I think you will find that JC fella was around long before the mid 60's!!! Rode a "Jewa Bike" on a Hittite engine with Cow Horn Handlebars and made a good fist of it and was a canny bloke by all accounts but got crucified off the fans in the end. Although with Crump and Pedersen making comebacks who knows? come "the end of days" we may see him again with a bit of luck. Like Lazarus (Crump) or the Prodigal Son (Pedersen) there is always an argument; and a space; for a good one coming back and being the true "Son of God" (not that pretend one from Cumbria who rode for Glasgow) and because it was that JC fella's Dad who said "thou shalt not have any strange gods before me.” the fans would need to be careful but it wouldn't be long before he was idolised and if he doubled his average (and I am sure he would do that) he could be a steal as three point average rider and what team wouldn't take a chance on him... Only thing is would he get a work permit after Brexit? Regards THJ

Honestly To be fair I don't know the guy and the last time I spoke to him was in the bar at Brough and he was still the Buxton manager so that shows how long ago that was... and he came across okay from the very occasional chats we had when he came along with Ged... but I'm happy to cut the guy some slack and genuinely wish him well I would hope folk give him a break and support him and the team... seems certain people just want to write him off before he has even started the job and there is an old adage "one volunteer is better than 10 pressed men" and George English and his sycophants were often accused of not talking enough... or at least not giving the fans any info or telling the fans what was going on whatsoever... Who knows he could be a breath of fresh air... the next Dave Younghusband even... Regards THJ

Yep good luck Jason nice to see Rob acted quickly to appoint a new manager at a time when he must have an awful lot on his plate... New owner new team new manager new web site new catering new roof on the office and a new floor too new track fence going in along with new drainage and some new track staff to boot... it's all taking shape... isn't It? No need for the doom and gloom "things can (and are) getting better" are they not? I'm sure there will be a million things on Rob's to do list and I hope he doesn't over stretch himself... sometimes New promoters want to change to much to quickly and they can miss some of the smaller more important points... All we need to do as fans is turn out in force to back the guy and show him that he made the right choice taking the Diamonds on... let's hope he can make a few Bob and build on what he inherited... which wasn't much to be fair to him... So again good luck to all the promotion here's hoping it works from day one... Regards THJ

Haha Actually not quite true... the riders asked me to take the job on full time and said I could take over from Jacko anytime I wanted... however they may have been pulling my leg... Furthermore I got a good hydraulicing off Jacko for spoiling them... the riders that is.... but I've never had a problem with man management or motivational speaking though to be fair... However what I will say is it's harder than you think it would be... and definitelty harder than it looks... it was pretty stressful that's for sure and any manager of a speedway team gets my respect... It might only be 15 one minute races but there is always something going on in between times... and that's on top of the riders moaning their puddings off... Regards THJ

Should a get me CV polished up Ruff because a still have a 100% win record from a triple winning team from 2018... Undefeated.... Not many can boast that now can they... Regards THJ

Solfest is a good festival but Maryport Blues used to be something else; I say used to be because due to escalating costs the whole thing has been racked back; the main route through the town was closed off with a stage at the bottom of the main street (Senhouse Street) as you went over the bridge to the harbour... The whole town was bouncing from the Thursday through to the Sunday and they had some top marque recognised and famous acts performing... unfortunately I doubt we will see those heady times again... However its not all doom and gloom the Blues is now run on a smaller more modest scale and all the pubs still put bands on through the weekend with some having 3 different acts on in the same day plus the pubs are open from early to very (very) late and its still good entertainment which is mostly free (the clubs sometimes (but rarely) have a small cover charge)... they also have kids rides and food stands for the compulsory (dirty) burger and this year the weather was cracking so that helped and you can see plenty of local and up and coming bands with a few established turns strutting there stuff as well... So if you like a drink and enjoy watching live music; I couldn't give the Blues a stronger recommendation because as stated its free to see most of the bands in the pubs and clubs; you just check your programme and wander from pub to pub on a musical pub crawl... Antonio's is part of the Golden Lion now they knocked into the White Star (Bubbles) next door and my spot is about 300 yards from there towards the dock just back from the harbour side... I think the place is great and when I retire that's where I am heading off to... just a pity there isn't any league Speedway over there at present but I keep my fingers crossed that the situation might change someday... No you would be ok it's not close enough to Sellafield to worry about (especially if you keep out of the sea) (ahem) No the biggest shock in Maryport at the moment is the opening of a new cocktail bar called Antonio's.... the jury is definitely still out amongst the hairy assed hillbilly's who live there... those who know the place know exactly where I'm coming from... How very dare they open such a "gay spot" in the roughest toughest lall town West of the Pecos... But to be honest it's a great place, little pricey but the grub is fantastic and the cocktail's are different but I don't think I'm doing it right... having a pint then a cocktail chaser... but hey ho it works... However because it's a bit dearer and definitely more upmarket that the usual pubs there it does deter the nutters who tend to frequent the local drinking establishments... it's one of my favourite watering holes in Maryport now... I have definitely taken to the spot it's like North Shields without the knives... a think the saying is #real.people... Regards THJ

    Newcastle 2020

Honestly Big no (NOOOOOoooooo) to that one Ruff... However what none of them Cumbrian's will admit to is being a Jam Eater (due to it being an insult) (av been called worse) but the guys who I drink with in Maryport where the original jam factory was (and that is true) use it as a derisory comment to refer to their near West Cumbrian neighbours. In 1901, Burnfoot Preserves Works (the jam factory) established themselves in Maryport. However, by 1934 the jam factory had closed (Aw!) Now one story I was told was that due to the decline of the Coal Mines in the Workington area miners from Risehow and Solway PIts were transferred through to the Whitehaven mines Haig, William and Lowca pits. All those transferred to the Whitehaven mines were made welcome as colleagues and a lot of long and lasting friendships were forged between the workers (allegedly; but they really hated each other). However on settling into their workplace the new arrivals were soon inducted into the practices and traditions that existed in the Whitehaven mines. Allegedly one of those traditions that prevailed was "Blind Swap" which took place every Wednesday, where most of the miners that were working in groups exchanged snap tins (lunch boxes). On opening the lunch boxes belonging to the Workington miners a number of the boxes contained "JAM SANDWICHES" with the Whitehaven miners retorting bloody jam, and calling their Workington colleagues "JAM EATERS" there was no nastiness they all thought it very funny and laughed and joked about it and the name still sticks to this day. However I have heard another story that goes due to the dust and heat in the Workington pits due to poor ventilation jam was the only thing you could put in your bait without it going off down in the mines The term "jam eater" is often used by the people of neighbouring Workington to refer to the people of Whitehaven, or more generally to people from West Cumbria. The common view is that the term is insulting because it implies people could not afford to buy meat for their sandwiches, so they had to eat jam instead. Also due the long-term rivalry between Whitehaven and nearby Workington: Legend has it that one town's miners had jam on their sandwiches and the other did not, but no one agrees on which town it was or whether they did it because they were snobs or peasants. All I know is us Maryport lads (yes av been adopted), who live a few miles further up the Cumbria coast (which, is occasionally mentioned in discussions on the topic; as we used to have the jam factory) take the moral high ground as we made the stuff and exported it to the poor folk of Whitehaven and Workington. However I have been led to believe that the term originally referred to people from Whitehaven, and and it has been suggested that it was always used as a distinction between the Whitehaven "jam eaters" and Workington "high siders" which has gradually been lost in the trading of insults across the rugby pitch However there's many a theory on it.....which ones correct? which one is true? who knows? who cares? everyone says its the other lot who are the jam eaters but its the elephant in the room because no one knows... https://www.whitehavennews.co.uk/news/17154970.who-are-the-jam-eaters/ Now sit back and let the Cumbrian Jam Eaters defend their position... but the one thing I do know for sure is us Maryport lads are definitely not Jam Eaters... Now back to the speedway... Whats the chances of Nicki Pedersen turning up for the 90th Anniversary meeting; Bjarne is signed up but I would love to see Nicki back as he was (and still is) a class act and who knows he may want some track time in before the UK Premiership season kicks off in earnest? One can only hope.... Regards THJ
