  1. Coming from Ipswich I find it a little strange as I don't think anyone could foresee Louis selling up especially to be brought by another current promotion.

However it seemed to work OK when Pavitt Louis snr. & Western ran both Hackney & Ipswich for a couple of seasons.

So that true Suffolk link has now gone. No longer in the safe hands of someone who understands what the witches have been all about. The Louis’s have finally sold out which is no great surprise but a sad day for Suffolk speedway. Anyone’s guess as to how long the witches will survive but the reality is that something will have to give sooner rather than later. Three teams owned by the same person and possible dwindling support with sporadic schedule of meetings. It does not address the issues that Louis spoke about in the interview in the EADT. He really came across as someone who wanted to see change but is this the right  one for the long term future of the witches. Time will tell whether this is the right move.

I agree. Louis interview the other week seemed to suggest that he wanted to see change for the better and to oversee that change. Which to be honest has been my impression of him ever since he took over from his dad.

However if he has got to the point that he can't see  those changes happening and he knows he can't influence the inner workings of the BSPA then who can blame him for selling up while the the club had some value.

This may be a purchasing to safeguard until a different buyer comes in? Like Leicester. He may have just saved the premier league by doing this with ipswich and Peterborough.

Good point. To keep the premiership going Chapman needed teams to bring the numbers up. Maybe Louis and Rathbone just said you want us to move up then by us out.

Obviously the supporters in Poland are stupid then, or they don't get as easily bored as they do in England

Neither! in Poland speedway is run as a proper professional team sport promotion relegation riders on riding for one team and no guests. Then add in sponsorship tv rights press coverage speedway in Poland becomes something that people want to attend and be involved in unlike here where its seen like the embarrassing uncle at Christmas.

Doesn't she work at JLR (Jaguar-Land Rover), where I guess there's a scheme for employees at a certain level, and family members, to lease (or purchase) new vehicles at very affordable prices, probably changed every six months?

Depends where she works and how long for. If you work in a dealer you do get discounts but it's a 3 year contract. If you have worked for JLR for years ypu get a new one every 6 months at discounted rates however if you're a newbie it's the same deal as a retailer employee.

    Jason doyle 9.57

    craig cook 7.64

    richard Lawson  6.81

    scott nicholls 6.65

    danny king 6.46

    Nathan greaves 3.25

    drew kemp 2.00

    adds up to 42.38!

note Adam Ellis would be my preference over Danny king but he’ll be in whatever league we’re in I’d imagine!

Like others have said tho not a lot of point speculating until we know the league formats etc. Also concede it’s very unlikely we’d be able to prize cool from belle vue!

dont think you could put together a much team that rides Foxhall any better than these lot tho - should win every week at home and be capable on the road!

Having seen drew go toe to toe with bomber at Glasgow and some of his other rides last season I see no problem in him riding top league as well next year he’d take it in his stride and surprise many along the way imo - destined for the very top

Cook at Foxhall you'd be guaranteed plenty of rain offs!

  7. I still believe that the powers that be need to take a leaf from Poland where the sport is taken seriously and appears to be a very marketable product. I'll admit not all is good there either.

Another example to follow would be the F. I. S snowboarding World Cup. They have taken an event that used to be confined to youngsters and the mountains and taken it to a much larger audience and to man-made city centre venues.

Speedway in this country needs a radical revamp to survive.

  8. Either it's got be rain things in merge the top two leagues and rebuild the sport into something that in 5 years is far healthier or have 6 or 8 team top league no points limit coupled with a major sponsor ship package to cover the costs. The first option would be a slow rebuild with out dramatic changes. The second requires dramatic changes re branding and a major re launch in the hope that the crowds will massively increase.

Either way it's got to be a 3 to 5 year plan.

I wonder though Phil if those that dont want a points limit now is because they are the ones that could dominate as it stands now

Guy Nicholls has probably spent more on new plant for his Tru business this month that Matt Fords full asking price for Poole

So far he hasnt been inclined to buy a club largely due to the restrictions in place

If there were none he may do it and then Id guess perhaps some of those advocating a free reign would not be so keen

With the money Guy has spent on Plant this month he could probably buy British speedway....... Now there a though!

I used to think that the asset system was illegal under the Bosman ruling but I now believe that this is incorrect. The clubs only own the league registration not the rider. The rider is free to ride for any club that he wants. He can refuse to ride for the club that owns the asset, as Kyle Howarth has done in the past & probably many other riders have also done so in the past. The difference between this & football was that the football player was not free to do this. Speedway riders are classed as self employed, unlike footballers who are employees of the club.

That may be true. However if they can still ride anywhere they wish and are self employed then surely they have no monetary valve to the business?

Even if they did agree to  keep rider's on a pay structure that would apply to all, can you imagine how many are likely to break that rule when the situation suits them as there are so many ways to get around such a deal , something like paying a sponsor a set sum which could then be included into a sponsorship deal is just one example.

That's why the sport in the UK is doomed.

They can never work together for the good of the sport. Now if you had a fully independent body the riders could be on fixed contracts and paid centrally.

I for one am someone who no longer attends Swindon due to both guests and doubling-up being out of control and virtually turning teams into a travelling circus of riders.

I no longer attend Ipswich for the same reason.... Although in my case the joker or t@#t hat as we knew it also played a major part....... At least they got rid of that.
