  1. Top match on a racers track although a little dryer than usual ( day match with a stiff breeze ). Bandits lost it on the last bend giving the Bears an escape route but you can’t put any blame on Flint for giving it everything. Andersen was always going to score big from reserve on his former track but NBJ was disappointing.
Bears can’t gate at all with only MPT getting to 1st corner in front all match. Good old McGregor got Sarjeant again when it was Jenkins who moved first.
New signings will take time to settle and they haven’t really got it !

Going to be a tough end of season for the Bears with Leicester still to come at home and Poole away but they should still be in the mix at the end.

Not sure British speedway has that kind of money,. Remember there are already tracks sitting there doing little or nothing, Buxton for one.

Why would the BSPL buy a track on the south coast when all of the BSPL have their own tracks and there’s nothing in the kitty anyway?

    Aarnio had a sick note

An experienced promoter always has one handy, usually a foreign one , badly photocopied . When was the last time you were able to get a sick note at 24 hours notice?, it simply doesn’t happen in the UK as you self certificate ( in other words don’t get a sick note ) for 7 days. The rule was (is it still ?) a rider who went ‘sick’ , non speedway related, was then barred for 9 days so that they couldn’t pick and chose which match to miss, just another speedway anomaly.

Although I notice he's supposed to be riding in France tomorrow (against Adam Ellis!)

Godfrey abusing his position by giving himself the R/R facility for a rider who was absent , not ill , not even in the country , and it won’t be the last time by the sounds of it.

Palin would have sealed the win for theScorpions had he not been injured.

McDonald was the surprise package , unlucky to be excluded ( could have gone the other way ) and the clash with Wright removing his chain.

But it is the modern way on the whole, there are loads of riders who have remained at a club for a few years!

I await your detailed list, shall we put a cut off on it if riders who have been at the same club for 4 seasons or more ?

Which of course begs the question when Championships are allocated elsewhere

Not really, the less prestigious finals such as this, and the U-21’s are usually given to clubs who express an interest in staging them as they are not likely to make the hosting club a substantial profit.

Totally different scenario for the bigger meetings where there is potential for a larger crowd.

but there is a way forward even if teams include so called lesser riders. Looking at the scores in the first season of the BL for every Boocock and Briggs there were loads of second strings and reserves who never climbed any further and they weren't slung out of the team at the drop of a hat.

    http://edinburghspeedway.blogspot.com/2014/03/british-league-averages-1965.html

look towards the bottom of the list, loads of riders below 3.00 riding quite a few fixtures for their teams.

Also see how many teams used only 1 guest all season.

Guess the pointless 'bust a gut' to win everything wasn't there

Whilst I agree with your content , you have to bare in mind modern society’s change in attitudes. In yesteryear, when riders stayed at clubs for quite a while, they got a following, a fan club and a bit of loyalty all round . That’s not the modern way. Mediocre teams get mediocre crowds, poor teams get poor crowds. You should remember the Havelock senior days at Redcar , poor team , poor crowd, club only kept afloat by generous pensioners. Whilst it may look like ‘ win at all costs ‘ it’s more, be seen to try to be successful or go under !

  8. Hyde Road - Belle Vue ( old school speedway )

NSS - Belle Vue ( for racing but not the atmosphere )

Redcar ( amazing what they produce there on a budget )

Scunthorpe ( always produces great racing but it isn’t the safest track in the world with Armco barriers and girders everywhere )

Torun ( ( the Carlsberg of stadiums )

( worthy of a mention- Somerset, Edinburgh - Powderhall, Peterborough, Bydgoszcz on a good day )

If you mean where was the threat of a ban made, promotions were notified by BSPL that riders would be banned so that they wouldn't give permission for their riders to race for IOW or "nomad" teams. Or that's what one club claimed when asked for permission.

“One club claimed “…..so nothing ‘ official ‘ at all.

I think the way BSPL worded it was that they fully supported "amateur" racing on the IOW... then decided that it isnt amateur if you are paying riders and charging people to get in (that's why Lydd are exempt from all this). So what about the NDL? Suddenly they dont class it as amateur, even though they had always previously said it was.  A vendetta? Surely not!

Then I repeat my question….where was any of this ‘ ban ‘ officially notified ?

  12. Great match and after 10 heats it looked like a Pirates four point win. Poole riders were so much faster after bend two it looked like a Bears hammering . Heat 11 gave the Bears hope, Gary Havelock missed a trick by not putting Hume in for Cook in heat 12 , then the Bears seized the incentive in 13 & 14.

Basso looked impressive on his debut , Worrell was the best I’ve seen him at MPA until his last ride but Rowe turned the match for me in his last three rides, did very well to turn his form around.

Good crowd, great atmosphere and even good second half racing.

  13. Has there been anything ‘official’  from ‘official’ sources to say that this is the case ? or is it just hearsay ?

The reason I ask is that he’s a Belle Vue rider and I don't suppose they would be happy at a ‘ban’ for their rider and the BSPL have gone public saying they are happy for riders to appear at the I.O.W. so this does not make sense.

If the season finished today I think my wife and I have effectively paid £44 per meeting :(

Well listening to today’s gossip it appears neither the riders or the landlord has seen your money and I’m cancelling my b&b for next weekend.

So you put more water on the track and it goes like ice. Nothing to hold the bike up. Therefore, you are advocating letting riders race on a more dangerous track but its all OK if the fans are happy.

Might just help if a proper track curator with the proper equipment was given the proper amount of time to prepare the track.
It appears that is not going to happen with the current set up ( reluctant landlords , ) and a promotion who can’t see ( because of the dust perhaps ?) the issue .
