That simply isn't true. Moto X bikes used to be allowed at grasstrack events, especially in the 70s, but not anymore. A meeting might be padded out with quads, but they have their own heats. I haven't seen a club run with a separate event with moto x bikes in recent years. The 'non-adult' races, are virtually all grasstrack machines, except for the very little children going round on Pee Wee motorbikes. Are you referring to another country and not the UK?

Which riders are turning up at grasstrack meetings? And those that are, the prize money certainly won't be a 'nice little wage packet'.

You might be the exception then as our local grass meetings, and we are lucky if there are six a year around here, features very few genuine grass bikes , and I know because I competed in it. The only grass only bikes was the 160 class which was basically the older guys who no longer can safely handle a 500.

A speedway ‘ star ‘ was given a nice little guarantee fee to feature in a meeting recently to give it extra publicity. He promptly did two rides , poorly, and withdrew with an ‘injury ‘. Several riders have made appearances on the grass in the last few seasons as ‘ one offs ‘, just read the speedway star for evidence.

Grasstrack riders are definitely, in my opinion, an immensely overlooked resource, as riders on speedway. I think the problem is, some speedway supporters and maybe promoters, look down their noses at grasstrack, for some inexplicable reason?

Your obviously not up with the grass track scene these days.
There are only a fraction of the events that used to take place in the 70’s and 80’s , therefore there is only a fraction of grasstrack riders around and if you look at recent trends , it’s speedway riders turning to grass to get a nice little bonus wage packet . Even the youth classes, the hotbed for speedway in the past, have very few entrants of genuine grass bikes and Over 60% of ‘ grasstrack ‘ entrants are riding moto x bikes so there’s very little chance of a speedway club finding a star from the grasstrack scene.

    Ok if you say so.!!
You seem to know how EVERY Club negotiates is lease. We will leave it there.

    Read what I’ve said!

I don’t know EVERY club but I do know that lease agreement because that was my job , so yes , leave it there.

As daft as you if you think Speedway Promotions pay Council full rent and don’t use the facility for 6 months. In Berwick’s case ( Council Owned)your not telling me that the Football pay 12 months full rent for 6 months use and Ditto the Speedway.I’m sure there is deal struck that suits them both.

Your just not taking this in are you? . Redcar pay 12 months rent ,on a 15 year lease, so that that piece of of the motorsports park is the speedway clubs,  no matter wether they run speedway racing, speedway practice sessions , amateur meetings, flat track, tiddlywinks tournaments or NOTHING at all as long as they pay the rent on time every time the council are happy ! That’s ‘ the deal that was struck that suits them both ‘ as that’s was what the council stipulated as it’s their facility .
If the speedway stated they only wanted to pay six months rent, there would be no speedway but the motorsports car park would be a lot bigger!, and yes, I do know this as I was involved in changing the lease when it was renewed.

Now not every club or council will have the same agreement but councils want rents paying and if some one only wants to pay for 6 months and some other sport offers to pay for 12 months, guess who will get the lease!

That’s fair enough but at Redcar  the price they pay for a12 month lease will be based on the fact that they run a lot of Training days and Amateur Meetings. Most other tracks dont have any winter activity.I’m sure the lease price will reflect that fact.

What ? So if they did nothing the rent would be less ??? Don’t be daft !

The council base the rent price on the facility, not what the tenant does with it .

Same goes for the moto x track, the m/cycle training school, the stunt school and the motorsports track .

I still don’t think Speedway Promoters pay for a12 month lease though.Who runs what in the winter months doesn’t come into it.!!!

To quote one who do….Redcar as it’s council owned and all others which are similarly owned,  and there are at least 5 others who do

Who and what are they going to run on a speedway track in the winter and if stock car people want to run it is compatible to share the facilities with speedway Promotions.

You need to take into account the details of the lease on the stadium. Most will specify exactly what can be done and when and you won’t be allowed to run just whatever sport you want whenever it suits you,

Genuine question, did Rob truly believe the club would break even in his first year whilst also running an NDL team?

I don't think there's many teams that actually break even. Especially those that don't own their own stadiums.

As very few ,well established, promoters at clubs with long history’s say they break even , a new promoter running at a hired venue with not very friendly landlords ( reportedly ) and a budget team then breaking even would have been regarded as a major success.

I hope the club survives but if people are not taking up free entry then the writing is on the wall.

Or let the landlord then rent out the Speedway track to someone else...?

If any track pays 52 weeks rent for 20 weeks or so use they must be crackers..

    Especially in this current climate..

Read the full context of the posts !….the suggestion was to just run 10 meetings a season, which would never work for those clubs paying rent and on a lease.

How many Clubs pay for 12 months rent. That is the question.

Most of those that don’t own their own stadium as that’s how they retain the right to run at the stadium, it would be simpler to ask ‘ who owns their own stadium ‘ ? The answer is ….very few !

    Bingo...

Dont run 20 meetings and pay out literally hundreds of thousand in salaries for 40 meetings, with poor returns and attendances....

Instead run say 10 meetings over six months from April to September (March if Easter falls then), with BIG prize money and promote and advertise them properly, using all the Bank Holidays available, and run Saturday and Sunday if it's your best day to attract a crowd..

Even those who rent must be able to negotiate 10 meetings per season only with their landlords given the current economic situation, and those landlords who keep the bar and car park take would be pleased to have large crowds attending Speedway meetings that have some "meaning" surely?

16, or even 12 at a push, riders of similar level at each meeting, therefore all races competitive and (if only 12 riders) the prize money shared would be greater..

Plenty of meetings for the riders, a chance to still earn good money and "proper, meaningful speedway" for the fans to watch..

Stick in a few "extras" to supplement the racing similar to the way the IOW do and who knows, it may help relaunch some "team racing" that starts again from scratch and doesnt remake all the mistakes which has led it to its current situation..

and pay rent for 12 months on a stadium your only going to use for 10 evenings ?
    Think again.

But it will be for those clubs that don't have sufficient time, capital and expertise. Hence Neil Watson's comment and the large number of clubs that settle for the Barber's fairly safe and pedestrian offer.

Very little time required, no capital or expertise really. Most clubs leave it to the company producing the items ( most good stuff for the GB clubs is produced in Poland ) to design the gear which can be ordered individually and paid for by the pre ordering fan . Just needs one person at the club to co-ordinate the sales and handle the profit margins for said club.

    Simples!

Unless he's decided not to take part (cant imagine that being the case) then its just another in the long line of ludicrous decisions by the powers that be!!

Should be an auto seed for the u21 champ...thought it always was the case

Agreed, Brennan should be a candidate , I’m somewhat baffled as to how Bates gets to be first reserve when he’s never been seen for months ?

Why what was the problem with the track?

Nothing at all, a little dusty but to be expected but perhaps the home riders wanted it done differently?.  The riders were given the ‘ hair dryer ‘ treatment by the management perhaps that was the only excuse they could come up with ? Expected more from J.Wright and Roynon but if you fall off on the parade lap then expect issues !

No complaints best team won. Much sharper out the starts. Diamonds riders apparently not happy with the track.

Track looked smooth, but you’ve done away with some of your home advantage some what by taking out the bumps. Took a while but some decent races towards the end. Expected more fight from the home team , Howarth being the star man by a long margin.

Bears guests were worth every penny, excelling them selves and added to good scores from the three Bears then it was an easy win.

Couldn't get near the famous food as the cues were way too long but that was the smallest crowd I’ve seen for a Redcar derby match. Hope it improves as don’t want to lose our ‘nearest and dearest’.

Where has the Newcastle thread gone?

Interesting that the ‘ thread ‘ disappeared yet the majority name caller was the second one to post on your new thread.

Anyway….nice to see the Newcastle fans have jumped on the Redcar thread and we hope to see you all on Friday. Would think your team will perform well at the STMP and make it another tough one for the injury struck Bears. We still haven’t seen the best from all 7 ( now 4 ) Bears so a good choice of guest reserves will be essential and the management have done well so far with their choices.

Diamonds will be difficult to beat at Brough too so I’d settle for the 3 points at home and be happy for a point up the road but having just seen the Sarjeant is now out ( now only 3 original Bears ) who rides Brough well, I think Bears may struggle to get it.
