Oxford Vs Redcar (league) 3rd May

Fortythirtyeight, yourself and I am sure many others may think that the Status quo in speedway is fine yet I keep reading on this very forum how it is also a dying a sport. There seems to be little faith in the BSPL, there seems to be little support for the guest system and at the same time so I keep reading attendances are dwindling. I write on this forum about something that has really got under my skin and get lambasted for doing so so who am I?... I am one of those people who pays through the turnstiles to support my local team, I have stood there watching them win the wooden spoon and watching them win the KOC. All of sudden there's a sense of optimism around the place and season by season we are building t feels as if the holy grail is just out of reach but achievable. Then out of the blue towards the end of last season the whispers start spreading that Lewis Kerr and Jordan Jenkins are going to Oxford and that Jenkins despite being an asset was tapped up. If you think that I am the only supporter outraged by this then you are surly mistaken, I must just be the only one to write about it. To be told I owe the Oxford promotion an apology because "everyone does it" is ridiculous because unless something is done to alter the Status quo more people will stop attending. This Redcar Bears team with Jenkins in place of Bailey would be massively stronger and I am bitter at Oxford "cheaters" for that

How? Where? When? Why do you think skulduggery is acceptable? Don't you think supporters who spend hard earned money and become invested have a right to be a little bit peeved?

Poole informed Danny King that they wouldn't be retaining his services

Because everyone does it does not make it right, in fact it's morally wrong. Did the Redcar promotion report the incursion to the BSPL.?

    Were are the Brum Fans

I just had a look at the term and conditions and supporters are not allowed to take food in. I think this is shocking, when I went there the food and drink prices were outrageous and I was told by home supporters that the food and drink outlets belonged to the stadium and the club received no income from them. Why on earth did the Brummies agree to this clause and how on earth can they sustain themselves going forward without this vital income stream? Newcastle were also tennants and I was told they shared the same landlord as Brum yet during Rob Grants tenure he had his own food van on site.

It amazes me that the Oxford SCUMBAGS (sorry I mean promotion) tapped up a Redcar asset much to the Bears detriment and there was absolutely no on track sanction given to them.

Now that would have been a result

    Scunthorpe 2023

I would absolutely love it if the Scorpians could find a route back for Josh Auty he's still a relatively young man and yet he's out of the game
  9. Scummy wouldn't sack Joe Thompson and then turn to his brother.......would they?
  10. I watched it on the stream well done Dan for a great job, you best comment of the night " Redcar fans are the best in British Speedway". I made my decision not to travel when I found out Erik Riss would be missing and I am so glad because a 2hr drive home after that loss would only have fried my brain because Sedgeman was crap and Stoneman delivered exactly what I imagined he would. The second strings were also really disappointing so a big shout out needs to go out to Charles Wright and Jason Edwards who were the only two Bears riders that looked like they actually gave a damn. Finally I expected a lot more from Danny King, but I will reserve judgement for now because I know he's better than that performance
  11. I think it's going to be close maybe right down to a heat 15 decider. For Redcar it will depend on which Jason Edwards turns up but if Jake the snake brings his A game then Scunny just might swing it although I am hoping that Redcars recent track time and Scunthorpe's lack of it create an away win for the Bears.

    Scunthorpe 2023

Don't be taken in by the haters, Roy is a master of his art and I would imagine he is the first person recruited every year. There have been meetings when he's been absent and the atmosphere was subdued. Honestly some people have no sense of fun. If you are following this thread Roy keep up the good work, it's such a shame that some people lead such miserable lives that they feel impelled to have a dig at someone who lives life to the full, you are part of the show and the attendances at Redcar speak volumes

    Scunthorpe 2023

The car park at Redcar is free, it does not belong to the club it belongs to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, please feel free to contact them regarding the potholes and lighting. As for Roy's "snidey remarks" it's banter mate it's a northern thing and certainly not to be taken seriously, maybe what's really required at Scunthorpe is good sense of humour

    Scunthorpe 2023

I can't disagree more, during Rob Grants tenure when he spat his dummy out and got rid of Roy the atmosphere at Newcastle was abysmal and he was truly missed. I find it hard to believe that you can think of him in those terms. As far as forgetting where he first came from as far as I know he still lives in Tyneside and was a Diamond to the core, everyone at Redcar knows that. BTW who was the center green announcer at the 2020 Ben fund?

    Scunthorpe 2023

I am honestly not Scunny bashing, I usually attend as an away supporter when Redcar are in town and your club definitely need a ring master. Roy Clarke does a fantastic job for the Bears just as he did for the Diamonds. He is the type of character Scunthorpe need with his mixture of Speedway knowledge and humour. Your announcer is probably a very nice guy and his voice is a dead ringer for Jonny Vegas but sadly without the wise cracks. Honestly there is an atmosphere at Redcar that draws people in everyone is so friendly fom the guy in the car park to the promoters and owners and if all of that could be replicated at Scunthorpe your fans would love it !! After all you have a great track and great facilities.

    POOLE 2023

I am pretty sure trophies are the Icing on the cake but to have the icing first you need the cake

    POOLE 2023

Your reply is bang on, the riders need to make a living and even an extra £10 a point can make a massive difference over a season they also have to take travel time to their home track into consideration for example if a rider lived in Doncaster, rode for Sheffield in the PL and Scunthorpe in the Championship he gets to spend a lot more time with his family than if he rode for say Ipswich and Glasgow it also means fewer nights in hotels and less diesel in his van. Above all riders need to be happy on a home track that they ride well with a good promotion who will back them if their form drops. Its a dangerous sport with a short career and when the time comes to hang up the kevlars what matters most is how much money is in the bank not how many trophies are on the mantlepiece

    Redcar 2023

Especially as he will be riding with Riss who is one of the best team riders around.....he will get plenty protection

    Scunthorpe 2023

The problem for Scunthorpe is the same as the problem for Redcar. "The track is too fair" and that makes it too easy for away teams to drive away with points in the bag with little chance of a reciprocal favour in corresponding away fixture. I know we get to see lots of exciting racing over 4 laps instead of a boring dash to the first corner from the tapes but then doesn’t amount to much when they dish out the trophies. I also think it hinders the ability to secure the best riders because they want a home track where they can take 12 points from a meeting and ot when where visiting heat leaders can make a serious dent in their income
  20. Eric will be back in the saddle for both legs of the playoff

It would have taken me all weekend to write that

    Newcastle now closed !!!

I am a Bears fan and gutted to see the Diamonds go but if you stopped for a minute or two and took off the rose tinted glasses you will realise it is for the best. As much as you all loved Brough Park you were only tenants paying an extortionate rent for a below par venue I remain confident that Newcastle speedway will rise again but to succeed they will need a set up like we have at Redcar with a dedicated stadium/track with the ability to generate multiple revenue streams. Workington are in the process of doing just that so why not Newcastle? All you need is a benefactor with deep pockets and a Geordie accent The Bears managed to achieve a revival on Teesside so why can't you do it in Tyneside or even Wearside, imagine the fanbase for the Tyne and Wear Diamond Stars
  23. Berry9

    Newcastle now closed !!!

Redcar really did lay out the red carpet for the Diamonds tonight with dozens of Geordies making the 1hr trip south to say an emotional goodbye in a hastily arranged meeting involving a Newcastle team made up of former Diamond's riders vs The Bears. After heat 15 the Diamonds supporters were invited to the start/finish line for a photo with the riders and as the tannoy system belted out Shirley Bassey's" Diamonds are forever" they were give a rapturous applause from the Redcar fans.

    Berwick Bandits 2022

I must say those clever chaps over at Berwick really are something quite special to be able to predict the rain at such a precise time and so far in advance. I am quite sure they are wasted running a speedway team when a glittering career in Meteorology is surely beckoning. I shall be eternally grateful to them for maliciously using the genuine excuse Redcar used when postponing 2 meetings without any team changes lined up and therefore not gaining an advantage, because they have saved me my valuable time and my expensive fuel. I am also pretty positive that due to their sporting integrity they will not be using their recently acquired team members when the re arranged fixture eventually takes place as they will be well aware of the fact that Cheats don't prosper
