The Colts are going to be without Paul Bowen tomorrow night, but is this a first for a rider's absence?

"There is one change to the home heroes’ line-up, with Paul Bowen absent because of being summoned for jury service. Royton racer Jack Shimelt will guest for him at No.6."

Maybe the first time it's been confirmed as an absence  . I've done it myself,  it happens to many of us but, usually ends about 2.30pm each day.

It does make you wonder how they put this team together? Is it LB or Tolley? Everyone agreed it was a ok team at best. I have to agree with what a few people have already said. They could have atleast signed the Thomson twins, kemp, nicol etc. Even though it wouldn't have won the league, it would be certainly helped the young Brits and make the meetings exciting!

You make it sound like signing riders is easy. It's great to say him or him but , does that rider want to ride in this country , ride for that club or is asking a Kings randsom to ride. All the riders mentioned may have been asked before the season started but for one reason or another went elsewhere or just simply decided not to.

I assume, The covers covered the greyhound track surface to prevent shale getting on it, if you don’t have speedway, you don’t need to protect the greyhound surface from flying shale.

Try going to perry barr where the covers have to be down before any track work can start & be removed and put away after the meeting. Not a rider in sight!!

Fairly run of the mill meeting but worth the entrance fee to watch King Charles blast around the boards in Heat 15.

Bears still have the same issues as previous meetings, but I thought Bailey rode better than Hume , despite scoring less points. Mulford is obviously a concern , he just can’t get out of the gate to give himself a chance. Not many 2 pointers to choose from so I’d stick with him a bit longer.

For the Brummies, Sedgmen was superb until the last heat and Bowtell and Pearson  rode well. Morris had a disastrous night and if he’d been anywhere near on it the score could have been much different.

Much closer than most predicted   ,I think that if all the brum riders could perform on the same night things could get better.

Id be very surprised if Dougy rides tbh, the crash at wolves plus multiple meets with the Plymouth shale, and going on complins bike in 15 may suggest he’s not got machinery and the lads probably a bit second hand…

Bomber to commentate and race at the same time???

I hope there is sub titles!!!

wonder if the promotion are aware of the fa cup final time been at 3pm on Saturday 3rd June the exact time the comets entertain mildenhall that day.might have a impact on crowd numbers that day.wonder if there's a possibility of time change for that fixture.

I'm sure if you email the FA they might be able to do something :D

So in their BSN mini league Redcar allow probably their main rival for qualification Scunthorpe to use one of their riders Jason Edwards as a guest. Only in speedway. The sport has no credibility!

So what's the alternative,  a ndl 2 pointer dropped in and hope.  It's OK complaining about the guest system but, without a alternative what do you suggest ?

Weather looks dry if a bit chilly so lets hope hundreds wrap up and get down to PB tonight to support Nigel and Laurence and the team.

Lets not forget those Tracks that have closed / are closing and that Speedway Racing and entertainment is far more important in the bigger scheme of things than win at all costs and breaking the bank.

    We don't agree very often.

Just watch the crowds come flocking next week :D

Like you say, you've got to start somewhere. I wonder why heat 11? Heat 10 is the cut off for a result isn't it? So surely that's the logical point.

What happens when we have our sun delay at Leicester during the summer? Has somebody got to ring Phil up for permission to have an early interval.

Personally if we have to have "half times" I prefer them to be nearer the half way mark than 2 thirds of the way through, so why not heat 10?

If you run 6 second half junior races that's 21 heats. Heat 11   ,just over half way through.

Great shout i shamefully forgot about Martins involvement with Long Eaton although not part of the promotion. Buxton's withdrawal from the MDL was costly for them as it was a great brreeding ground for potential riders especially when competing against clubs with deeper pockets. I think riders would appear from everywhere for the chance to ride at Belle Vue even with midweek fixtures but any experiences with Stoke and speaking to many others is that the promotion treated the second half riders poorly and would be the most likely track to not stage the even despite being a weekend venue.

I do slightly disagree about things at stoke. Things did improve (abet with the aid of volunteers) everything was done to help when carmarthen ran as the mdl team. The ghost teams were  destroyed by the BSPL premier junior league which has now been kicked deep into the long grass.
