It's a nonsense article where the reporter has just looked at the planning portal on EHDC website and made a story from it. Crap journalism.

He's added parts from the retrospective planning application from the Rye House Group and added a couple of fan comments from the public comments to try and make it seem fair. RHAG have serious allegations against EHDC and Lee Valley Park Authrority which need to be answered.

Rye House Group are still trying to bullsh1t their way through all the mess they have created by saying it's now unsafe. Anyone with eyes can still see the area where the track was is clear.

The Environmental Agency have put in an objection to the unlawful building though which could make things interesting.

What a mess! Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it is a pity Len Silver didn't protect the club a bit better, when he passed the reins to someone else. Especially as speedway was lost before, but miraculously came back! :(

Yep. Was more worried about the £ signs than the future of the club by all accounts

The retrospective planning application for the big extension that was stuck on the spectator stand 4 years ago that breached building laws

Any objections would be welcome. Just go to the comment section.

    Comments should focus on:

    • East Herts District Council were informed 4 years ago of the breach by the Rye House Action Group
    • Strong action should be taken against unlawful building work
    • The applicant has destroyed a community asset(track and club) and broke planning laws. They shouldn't be helped or rewarded for such reprehensible behaviour
    • Not a good look for EHDC if they don't enforce building laws

The harder the council make it for Rye House Group the better the chances for Speedway being part of the future. If it wasn't for the RHAG the whole complex would have been a football pitch and clubhouse by now.

  3. They have put in for retrospective planning on the spectator stand that they turned into a gymnastics centre. They lied in 2020 and said the size of the building hadn't changed so didn't need to apply for planning permission.

They stuck a huge extension on the end as a viewing area

They are currently being investigated by East Herts District Council planning enforcement for this breach and others

It sums up the state of planning in this country that you can put in for retrospective planning just when the investigation for the breach is coming to an end

In the overall scheme of things, it doesn't mean a great deal. The area of the track is where it matters. How long can they keep a white elephant after paying out a tidy sum for the lease?

  4. It should have happened a couple of years ago but at least the licence has been revoked. The further Russell and Osbourne are away from any possible involvement the better.

The Abbey is dead in the water. Osbourne wouldn't let the speedway back out of spite now anyway

At least it gives a chance for a consortium to get together and put pressure on the council to provide a plot of land after their awful handling of the planning process at the Abbey

You could add and also wanting BE to build on Brandon stadium. To allow someone to be in partnership with a guy who has such an open negative agenda against anything related to speedway is a reason in itself to have zero faith in the BSPL.

Yes, I mentioned earlier in the thread about Osbourne & the smarmy Gareth Hooper. Both trashed the sport & said it wasn't viable at the inquiry. Irony anyone?

Russell didn't look particularly healthy when I saw a picture of him a few months ago either using a walking stick.

You have pretty irrefutable evidence of a stitch up but the BSPL won't do a thing.

Same at Peterborough where Chapman has no intention of doing anything to save the club but gets to hold onto the licence.

  6. Chapman & Godfrey the pair of clowns in charge of the BSPL at that time have to take a large amount of responsibility. Comical to hear Godfrey say he'll do what he can to get Rye back! You played a huge part in the club shutting you clown.

Think Rye are in a better position than  Arena or Swindon. The LVPA own the land not the twats(Ricky Musk & Kevin O'Malley) who ripped the track out & broke planning laws.

The LVPA will be the one who eventually will decide the future of Rye. I'm sure their not happy that a tenant has broken planning laws on their land. The lease also says speedway & greyhounds need to be included on the site I believe. They have written to the tenants demanding some answers according to the Rye House Action Group.

The council have done what they can refusing planning permission & taking enforcement action. They can't force the tenant to run speedway.

The BSPL should be all over the LVPA saying we have a promoter ready to go in ASAP. The infrastructure & planning permission are already in place. I have no faith in them though.

It's a wait & see. I think the first half of the year will see whether there is any future for Rye.

  7. Why haven't the BSPL taken the licence off Russell yet? Any serious association would have had the licence off him as soon as he joined Osbourne in making that statement about speedway not being viable at the Abbey & joining Swindon Mototorsport.

  8. The Lee Valley Park Authority(own the land) have written to the leaseholders (Carter + Bailey) requesting that they address matters at the site & the lease obligations after the failed planning application.

How Musk and his cowboys have got away with it for so long is a disgrace.

The noose is tightening what with the council & LVPA now not happy with them.

The best chance of a return is the LVPA as Musk has surely bought them into disrepute with his numerous instances of breaking planning laws at the site.

The BSPA should be onto the LVPA offering up a promoter to take on the rights

Dan rode with metal plates/pins in his leg causing him pain all season, these have now been removed. 2024 could well be the season we see the real Dan Bewley. As for his gating I do agree with you about this issue, having said that if he can match or better J Holders gating, a world title is within his reach.

Needs to become a lot tougher on track if he is to get anywhere near world champion. Hell of a talent but is way too soft presently

  10. You wouldn't want Chapman involved in any campaign. Has no people skills and even his own son hates him. Look at the number of people he has fallen out with.

The issue is he is sitting on his fat arse whilst all the passionate fans who want to save the sport are doing all the work. He'll then lump up the price if they are successful. Putrid, but sums up the sport. The powers that be should be removing licences at Peterborough(Chapman) and Swindon(Terry Russell) as they are damaging the sport and those clubs.

  11. Can't a licence only be kept on ice for 3 years? BSPL need to remove it from Russell immediately. This latest update is purely to take the heat off and keep the BSPL thinking something may happen. If they have anything about them then they'll take it off Russell. They should be doing the same with Buster Chapman at Peterbrough.

The licence isn't worthless at all. You can't run speedway in Swindon without it. Same as Peterborough where Chapman is reluctant to give up the licence even though he has no track

I suspect the gym and gymnastics club generate more income for the leaseholders than speedway would and can’t see how they could all work together especially as the leaseholders would appear to have an active dislike for ‘dirty’ speedway.

There’s a reason why Uncle Len didn’t sell to the present tenants.

Uncle Len has to take a huge amount of responsibility for the closure of the club. Selling to BMR was a shocking decision. Had no idea about the sport & ended up going bankrupt a couple of years later. Warren Scott managed to transfer all his assets over to his wife before that though.

Interesting that the council are now going to take enforcement action at the Stadium regarding the illegal building work. They may have to pull down the extension they put on the old stand/gymnasium & a load of the fencing.

As with Peterborough & AEPG, I think eventually C&B are going to have to come back to the negotiating table with Rye Action Group or a speedway promoter if they want to do anything with that land. How long can they continue to be stubborn for?

  13. It's a big old site and sounds like no chance for housing if the other lot sold it off. The best that Lakeside can hope for is for the new owners to give them a small piece of land so that they don't have the hassle of a number of objections and the council on their back if they ignore the speedway.

You do understand the BSPA are actually just the other promoters and not just a group of tyrants with a load of axes to weild?

If Godfrey wanted the same and you suggest above and the others out vote him he has to come out publicly and state the outcome decided, he gets the blame (because he s head honcho) even if he didn't vote for it.

Don't be naive. It's on the chairman & the management committee to do their job & remove the licence.

What are they doing at Rye House & Peterborough where there is a chance of speedway next season? if they put a bit of pressure on or financial incentives on the table to the leaseholders but it's silence as usual.

Too many clowns like Godfrey, Chapman & Harkess running the sport have killed it off.

It was on the first bend and it was Pedersen who had a bit of a reputation!! It was a 50-50 call because Pedersen clamped him and touched his front wheel and in true Nicki style tried to play with Holders mind by having an altercation afterwards.

Nonsense. As clear an exclusion as you'll see. Ref bottled it.

    Poole tinted specs as usual

  16. The first thing that should happen if Swindon has any chance is removing the licence from wideboy Russell. Has no intention of bringing speedway back & is clearly working with Osbourne to stop it.

Does the BSPA have the bottle & courage to do that? No, they'll just continue to bury their heads in the sand & see clubs just dwindle away.

You only had to watch the planning inquiry regarding Brandon to see the real views of Osbourne & that smarmy wally Gareth Hooper. As soon as anyone at the BSPA saw that then the licence at Swindon should have been removed from Russell.

It’s unlikely that the site owners want speedway back. They’ve got tenants there that certainly wouldn’t.

it’s all a bit academic, at the end of the day the cost to revive speedway at Rye House would be so huge it will take a Euro Millions big jackpot winner being a Rockets fan to to make it happen.

Through their own stupidity & disregard for planning laws, the leaseholders have put themselves in between a rock & a hard place.

Can they afford to wait another couple of years of appeal processes or new plans which may never get through?

They must have spunked enough money buying the lease & doing the illegal building work already with only a little bit of rent coming in from the gym & gymnastics club.

They have come across as Mickey Mouse the plans they put forward at the start of the planning application & have pissed off the council by extending buildings etc.

Can they afford to turn down £40k a year from the speedway? The track could be restored in a couple of months & give them an income fairly quickly.
