Forget it. There is nothing like league teams racing. So please, not another individual series, we already have the SGP and the SEC, that is more than enough.

Here in Germany we had the German Speedway Masters series, which was in principle run extactly like what You propose here, as a combined individual and club team competition. It lasted no longer than two years. Riders were missing most of the time and had to be replaced by others, it was just not worth following this.

Years ago every track had their own big individual meetings, Pride of the East, Golden Gauntlets, Internationale, Golden Hammer etc, top line ups and big crowds, even challenge matches were well attended. These type of meetings nowadays are unviable to run hence their disappearance. Hard to think now a speedway season would have 36 league matches, KO cup, challenge matches, individuals, World Championship qualifiers. With the exception of Poland the sport seems to be struggling everywhere, the influence of the Poles and the GP,s has had a negative effect in my opinion, and with rumour of increasing GP rounds will speedway end up like F1 with the GP taking over?

Agree entirely. Apart from the GP's, never really been a fan of individual events. All about league racing for me and always will be. Just wish we could go back to the halcyon days of say Halifax riding at Cradley with all the rivalry and large crowds etc.

Needs to be more a sense of belonging to a team for both riders and supporters and as MikeBV regularly points out, greater financial rewards for winning the league and a proper trophy to go with it.

For me  even the  GP,s are becoming played out, there were great individual meetings in the past the BLRC which usually had a field that was better than the world final, the British Final at Coventry packed with world class talent, and every track had their own big individual meetings again packed with the top talent available. I remember travelling to Kings Lynn for the Pride of the East for example. I suppose those meetings back then were popular due the riders participating, compare to this years British Final for example.

It is if you are trying to run some sort of league. No Wolves and I doubt whether the league can continue in its current format. Why should any team jeopardise it’s very existence by moving up to  join and expensive operating model racing on nights that do not suit the the local business model. In my view it is a shame that another team bites the dust and league racing at the top level is questionable and I wonder how many fans of the sport would turn out for open meetings if you had no league racing. Be careful what you wish for.

After 55 years following speedway if we had no league speedway i would walk away from it.

  4. Not a good advert to introduce the groups of newbies to for their first meeting. I remember Man United getting fined by the FA when Sir Alex fielded a weakened team in a cup match even though United won by a couple of goals, if the BSPL did the same Lynn would be in trouble, hopefully they can get to the end of the season and come back stronger next season whatever the format might be.

I think you will find that Ellis is an also ran. Why don’t you mind your own business. I do not moan about riders who make a genuine effort but the set up in this country says it all about the sport. Carry on replying but I have no interest in you opinion and rest  my case, the sport is dead in the U K and thankfully the Poles know how to put on  decent meeting.

Im surprised you watched it all the way through

Absolutely pathetic by Worrall, he's become a right whinger recently.  He's simply not good enough so he's quit.

Exactly he would be nowhere near the title no matter how many rounds were held. Never heard riders moaning about it being at Coventry every year, was always a great meeting there but look at the differnce in quality compared to today.

I could actually do the chapel route - which involves turning off before the snake and making my way round and coming via Stockport - but i might try that one! Anything that avoids  Mottram - its just a nightmare unless its the middle of the night!

Ive always found coming out by what used to be the flouch pub cuts out the nightmare of Mottram, going home after the meeting you should be ok with your regular route.

I do want to go to the NSS - however for me it would involve going through the snake on a Monday night and hitting the Glossop and traffic as you head up to the M67 - its always a bottleneck and every time i have thought about it i cant face doing it! It theory it is an hour door to door for me but i would have to be out of work sharpish to get there.

What was the crowd? The Grandstand holds 3700 it says - and it was what half full, maybe 60% full? That's approaching 2k people with a decent number down the back straight - so the crowd was 2500 maybe more? In these times thats not too bad an attendance. I the two times i have been the Owlerton this season the crowds have probably been about the same - possibly higher.

There was one or two races that would have been great to see live, particularly heats 13 and 15.

Come along the Stocksbridge by pass and through Holmfirth, Mossley i always go this way never had a traffic problem better than snake and woodhead.

Think we'd be better off running R/R to be honest! When all riders chip in we have the balance right in the team but Morris really has derailed things, I'm unspeakably angry when I think about it, I'd quite happily de-bag and radish him on behalf of the SCB

I think we'll be in the play offs but any chance we had of upsetting in the final has faded away somewhat.

Why did Morris not give a urine sample? Unless of course he knew he had taken something that would show up, is he on any medication? If so  as in the case of Kyle Howarth he would surely have been vindicated?
