  1. Its a long way from the days when sawdust was put down the riders donned overalls rolled their sleeves up and got stuck in real dirt track riders. Wonder what would happen at the GP if its wet and the organisers insist the show goes on? Mr S post reflects the anger that will be felt by many i think, some of these riders seem to be biting the hand that feeds them namely the fans, after 38 years following speedway i feel i dont know it at all over the last few seasons with silly rules and now events like today at poole, sometimes these promoters must wonder why they bother.

  2. Anyone trying to convince me that Rickardsson is the best rider of all-time is going to have an even bigger task now. Away from the GP series, he's looked extremely ordinary when I've seen him in 2005 (getting passed by Tom P Madsen in a league match at Arena, and tonight he was frankly dreadful). He seems completely incapable of dominating an entire season in the same manner as the likes of Mauger, Nielsen, etc. Best of his era certainly, but best of all-time... not even close.

    Agreed

  3. It might already be a foregone conclusion that TR will be this year's G.P. champion, but I still don't find it boring.  If anything had happened to him in the last two G.P's we'd all be moaning about it being a fix so the result was in doubt until the final one.  At least everything is above board and I for one still enjoy watching Tony race.

It will be interesting to see who comes 2nd and 3rd and which riders are in the final 8 who qualify for 2006.  It's still speedway - how can it be boring?  :P

I understand what you mean, by boring i mean a lack of the expectation and unpredictability that surrounded the one off final, that was a unique atmosphere no second chances all or nothing on the night, as for your last comment there are boring speedway meetings as there are boring football matches etc,

  4. Be interesting to compare crowd figures for the remaining GP,s as TR is so far ahead barring injury the rest of the series is rapidly becoming pointless, its ironic sky dabble with league racing (the hated T/R rule) to try to guarentee close meetings and their flagship has become one long bore you still cant beat the atmosphere and unpredictability of the one off final, the meetings along the way to the one off were also something else, the european final, nordic, british final when it meant something, sorry for me the GP is a bore fest.

  5. TR is going great this season good luck to him, but if this GP system had been in place when Mauger was at the top of the tree his title successes would have been in double figures, for consistancy Mauger was awesome, dont forget he had to go through lots of difficult one off qualifying rounds in some cases only the top four progresseing to the next round, then come world final night you couldnt afford one slip not the luxury of being world champ without winning a round which is possible now and has been done, remember Mauger having an 11 point plus average for five consecutive years i think it was, cant see that happening again, and look who he was riding against to achieve it, as for never passing anyone i remember at belle vue one time he forgot to turn on his fuel and was passed on the back straight by the three other riders, he turned on the fuel gave chase and won the race, not often from the back i grant you that but he wasnt often at the back to start with, theres his record of league wins with teams he rode for, his long track and WTC succsesses espeacally when riding for GB, TR is a great rider but better than Mauger i dont think so.

  6. The riding was a lot harder years ago but fair in most cases, today by comparison they would be getting kicked out, difference being they could dish it out and take it like football which is now becoming a non contact sport, the tackles from games in the seventies from the harris,s, stiles, bremners, etc would get them banned today but there was a lot less injuries than today, hard riding from years ago albeit fair would today be condemed as dirty and the likes of pedersen etc wouldnt hold a candle to some of those guys.

  7. This is an oppertunity for the authorities to show that this type of thing wont be tolerated and remove the hint that there are certain practices that can be percieved as the sport being bent, surely at the least it brings the sport into disrepute, cant understand why british sponsers would want to put money into a foreign racer that cheats their country when theres plenty of british riders to support, wouldnt want my company associated with this.

  8. This type of thing has happened in the past ie coventry where adams and crump made no attempt to race in order to deny england, its not done their reputation any harm has it?

No? Why do you think loads of us on here were chuffed to bits when Australia didn't qualify for the final. We remember....... :P

But there popularity hasnt suffered because of it, ok crump has never been a lot of peoples favorite but adams has suffered no bad reaction and is worshipped at swindon.

  9. This type of thing has happened in the past ie coventry where adams and crump made no attempt to race in order to deny england, its not done their reputation any harm has it, there is a rule is there not that a rider can be excluded for failing to race, also penhall didnt cover himself in glory at white city but at least he was helping a fellow countryman, still dosnt make it right though, now we have anderson letting karlsson through muddying the waters, as for the danes and swedes not getting along remember euro 2004 where the italians accused them of a carve up? like a professional foul in football its cheating at the end of the day, anderson just showed what he lacks in my book and thats class.
