What is that supposed to mean? Sorry for being pleased to potentially see another team return to the sport! What's that got to do with Swindon?[/quote

Don't be thick!! Stadia U.K. showing an interest in Oxford apparently while they drag there heels at Swindon, the old stadium won't be there for much longer probably this season at most and the so called new one won't ever be built especially if GI and Stadia U.K. move in on a ready made replacement at Oxford as at the end of the day all they want is a venue for dog racing nothing else

Thank you I'm glad your not thick like some on here!!!!

Clark Osbourne only requires a venue for dogs and he certainly wouldn't be interested in two

Yeah we know! That's the whole point , but GI and Stadia uk couldn't give a flying one about speedway which still puts speedway in either location in serious doubt

It does if Stadia uk get involved at Oxford , would mean they wouldn't require a dog stadium in Swindon or more the point the expense of a new build , they will merely knock down the old one and build more houses plus extra on the land supposedly allocated for the imaginary new stadium

I'm confused! Where has there ever been any connection between GI/Stadia UK and the re opening of Oxford??

  2. Surely a compulsory purchase by Oxford council can be put through. Then sell it back to a company who will only use the site for leisure ie. Speedway and Greyhound racing.

Ultimately, I think this will be the eventual outcome. As frustrating as it is though, the stadium 'changed owners' only a few months ago, so the council can't be seen to jump straight in to a CPO so will probably have hold off for a while.

  3. Are there any meetings of Oxford speedway supporters planned for the immediate future?

The Oxford Speedway Supporters Club still hire a venue and show each Grand Prix round on a big screen with an all you can eat BBQ, apart from Cardiff where they put on a couple of coaches for supporters. They also do an end of season dinner each year with a guest speaker. All are still well attended.

  4. Not sure how this would work out but would not a prospective speedway promoter also be responsible for all the renovations and upgrading needed to bring the speedway back? The cost would be prohibitive and not worthwhile looking at - as it seems in these times - with an attendance of around 1,000!

If the stadium does get sold as a going concern and it is bought by a greyhound operator, then they'd presumably be responsible for fitting out the restaurant/bar area. Regarding the speedway facilities - much of it is still in place as it was left and would just need a good tidy up, with much of the equipment being stored off site. The only big expense would be an airfence/foam fence, but if other clubs can raise the funds to buy one by a challenge meeting or whatever then this shouldn't be too much of an issue.

The main problem being waiting for the current owners to decide what they're going to do with the site!

thats not a stumbling block, its the only thing preventing demolition.

The whole site is designated as a conservation area. Even felling a tree without the correct permissions can have serious consequences for the owners.

  5. Is Oxford a viable stadium these ,could it be used seeing as it closed down when Mick Horton was the last promoter there would anyone want speedway back at Cowley under his control and would the hardcore Coventry supporters be willing to travel there . If it was viable why hasn't any would be promoter taken a chance with it.

The reason why there is no speedway at Oxford at the moment is because the current stadium owners won't allow it.

If they would then I'm sure there would be an Oxford team riding there. It's not because there is no one willing to promote at Oxford or it is not viable etc.

  6. I seem to remember that a fan reported on here, that they had been down to the track and part of the safety fence had been removed, and they questioned how they were going to get away with it with only days to go before the meeting. Perhaps there was a rethink and the fence was re-elected.

The issue with the safety fence at Oxford for that last Flat Track meeting was that the safety fence on the bends was altered at the end of the 2003 season to accommodate the new air fences, which were made compulsory at Elite League tracks in 2004.

In order to maintain the width of the track, the original fence was removed and a new structure was fitted 50cm or so further back, just using solid scaffolding poles as posts with a weld mesh to mount the air fence to, therefore making the new fence unsafe without an air fence in front of it.

This was the concern with using the track without an air fence
