    Kent Kings 2014

The big difference with Speedway these days at this kind of level is the requirement to have only seven 'declared riders'. Back in the day they'd be effectively a 'squad' of riders and with active second halves a rider not in the team right now could ride second halves and then get his chance if injury happened and/or if he showed good form (like say, beating the incumbent reserve) in second half racing. Of course difficult for us at Central Park to fit in second half races but we did manage a few times last year. As Mimmo says, my guess would be both Adam and Sam may end up getting a chance in the Scunthorpe Stags side..?

No both those fixtures are 'Challenge' matches

    Leicester Join The National Trophy

I'm sure they will do that. There used to be this sort of thing before, when the Conference Trophy contained a number of different teams to the Conference League - it worked fine then. The prospect of a different visiting team and a different track to visit is very good news for the stand-alone clubs also competing in the NT. And as it happens, yes I do think a different name than Leicester Lions should be used! Am sure they'll be a different nickname at least - will be interesting to see what gets the nod. Previous nicknames used have been Hunters (not very PC that these days!) and, a long way back, Hounds..

    Leicester Join The National Trophy

I actually do wonder if some people who post on the BSF actually LIKE the sport of Speedway at all... For some, and iris123 is a classic example, it seems just about them sniping as much as possible and trying (though failing badly, certainly in his case..) to be funny, while denegrating all the efforts of people & clubs actually trying to improve the sport. If - as is the case with iris123 - you hold the whole of the third tier in such contempt, maybe you would do better to steer clear of this section of the BSF?

    Wimbledon Stadium: Some Important News

Yes, the facades of both the East & West Stands of the former Arsenal Stadium remain intact. I go past here every working day and it doesn't lessen the pain of losing the ground I loved so much to see those remnants remaining... Naming roads after memories from the demolished stadium has happened in West Ham before - with the streets on the site of the former Speedway stadium in Custom House including Hoskins Close, Croombs Road, Young Road, Wilkinson Road and Atkinson Road. Again doesn't really lessen the pain or reduce in any way the loss.

Good stuff 21CH. My pick from the Storm though would be the other Greenwood: Oliver. He is a rider of great potential and I reckon 2014 will be the year he breaks through in a big way...

    King's Lynn Young Stars 2014?

Well, yep, one is Jack - born at King George's Hospital in Ilford when the family lived in Barking - yes, these are in London boroughs before anyone cries, 'Essex' at me!! And the other isn't Daniel, it's Ryan Terry-Daly - who though raised in NZ was born in Hammersmith! Young Ryan told me last year that the first part of his double-barrelled surname signifies he's related to - funny enuff - someone else from Barking; a sportsman who's made his name not too far from Hammersmith, in Chelsea to be precise! Not sure if he was winding me up on that family link to former England football captain, John Terry..?!

    Nope not them!!

    King's Lynn Young Stars 2014?

The return of former Tottenham Hotspur school-boy footballer Master Cockle brings the total of London-born riders in the 2014 NL to three. Come on folks, it's still the 'silly season', how quickly can someone name me the other two!!

Yes on that sign but never used by the Speedway club as far as I can ever recall..

Which Rider Have You Never Taken To?

In the '70s I used to love to hate Ole Olsen - but he is still the second best rider I've ever seen! In the Wimbledon CL days for some reason the Allen brothers had a massive downer on the Plough Lane track which certainly didn't endear the pair of them to me or to other Dons folk!!
  13. And I see for the first time in a few years a reurn to Amman Valley.. Always regretted missing out on there before - hope to go this time around!!

Lewis Rose was indeed the newcomer of the year to me in '13. Sure, his sometimes team mate Robert Lambert outscored him (and more or less everyone else!) and it was also Lambert's first season in the NL; but we all knew Lambert was going to be a very high points scorer and a performer who, if age allowed, could've gone straight into the Elite in truth. Lewis had ridden in the AJL the season before and his unexpected progress was what that development league & the NL is all about.

Dead right about Ben. I first saw him ride in 2008 and saw him win the Final Round of the U-15s 250cc class at Buxton that year - yet remarkably it's 2014 now and he's STILL a teenager! (though tbf will be 20 by the time the season's underway!) He was indeed asserting himself really well last year - remember his battles with Charles Wright and with Ashley Morris at CP. He is ready to be a number one in the NL. At Kent we look like we have a really strong trio of heat-leaders! Am really looking forward too, to seeing Ben ride in the EL for Lakeside!

Fair point Bryn - but I can multi-task!!!

And we have a lot of hopes for Brandon Freemantle at Kent too - as ever it's where the 3-pointers step up to the mark that their teams excel.

Ivan actually won SIX World titles (though 'only' five in the period discussed I suppose!)!!! But PC was a peerless racer and the only rider who could (almost) match him in that regard as a pure racer was Olsen, in my book. Can I point out that the Kennett I have in 7th. spot is not Barney (!) nor White City Rebels League winner from 1977 (and Dad of my modern-day favourite, Eddie), Dave but the great Gordon, of course!!!

Agree with a couple of the postings so far. I think Jack Kingston could make major strides forward this season. And Benji? Yep, I reckon after a steady return last year he'll be more prepared this season from the off and I reckon he could end up right up there as one of the division's top riders again.

    Top Riders 1969/80

Hi mate, Personally I wouldn't have Briggo in there in this year range nand of course I'd have PC first! Mine (also in order) would be: Collins, Olsen, Michanek, Mauger, Louis, Lee, Kennett, Simmons, Tommy Jansson & Plech
  21. A daft question perhaps, but is there likely to be another attempt to stage this 'out of season' meeting..? Or will it simply now be too close to the actual season to make it worthwhile?

    Kent Kings 2014

Terrific news to be drawn with Devon! Great to welcome the new Demons side to CP and will be brilliant visiting Plymouth - if you've never been you MUST go, it's a great track! Also because the prelim' round it will mean (provided we do win of course!) that we get an extra fixture!!

    Derek Cattle

A friend of mine's father has been telling her about a Speedway rider from Stepney in the East End of London called Derek Cattle. The only trace I can find is of this person in Cycle Speedway but overall it's a new name on me.. Did he ride motor cycle Speedway - perhaps for West Ham?

    Rye House 2014

I should indeed be wary - with my track record on predictions!!!! But Stevie is pure quality and can see no reason why for once I won't be proved correct!!
