2009 Sgp Betting Odds
Seb the Snail replied to youngy105's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I wouldn't back Adams under any circumstances. His best chance was 2007 and whilst he can still win the odd GP, I'll be very surprised if he ever manages a Top 3 finish again. Hans each way looks the best bet to me, but there's no rush to get on and you'll probably get better than 10-1 if you hunt around. -

British Gp Starts 5pm
Seb the Snail replied to Rob B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'd rather have a 7pm start and more socialising time in the afternoon. Hopefully the fleet of Robins coaches will just leave 2 hours earlier to ensure that we don't miss out on serious drinking time. If not then I may have to break the habit of a lifetime and stay over, and that could be really messy! -

So Matt Ford has finally resorted to using dodgy Czechs? Now why doesn't that surprised me? -

Blimey Bert, this is worse than waiting for your A-level results. Have I finished above orion or not? -

Good point well made, Matt. It's £5.30 at the moment and will no doubt go up again on January 1st. I've always wondered why you have to pay to get into Wales anyway. I'd gladly pay twice as much to get back out again. The line up doesn't look too bad at this stage. I could well be tempted if Pints or Points is shipping the beers in. -

Is this some kind of crazy Dorest love-making technique? Totally agree tanya. I'll consider whether or not to go once the line-up is known, but if the meeting is being held in Tim's honour then it should be nowhere else but Newport. -

Cold Turkey Classic? Looks like Frank Smart and Danny Bird are the first 2 riders on the list. -

Who said that I had no intention of coming? I might like soggy mince pies! If there are 1 or 2 Robins in action then I could well be tempted. Nonetheless the fact that the goalposts are moving already in terms of participants doesn't augur well. -

For a minute there Sue, I thought you'd be asking for a texter! This meeting is going to look about as appealing by the first week of January as a stale turkey sandwich and a soggy mince pie. -
2009 Sgp- Who Will Win?
Seb the Snail replied to Wildcat's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
On the Rostrum: Pedersen, Crump, Andersen In the Top 8: Jonsson, Adams, Gollob, Hancock, Holta Supporting Cast: Nicholls, Sajfutdinov, Bjerre, Lindgren, Ulamek, Harris, Walasek -
I think that a Wembley World Final would be my choice. My Mum went to several in the early 60s and says that they were magical. Domestically I think that Cradley would be my first choice, on a balmy summer evening when the Wolves were in town!

British Gp Riders
Seb the Snail replied to robolots's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What a load of poppycock. What right does anyone else have to tell me who to support in the Speedway Grand Prix, or anything else for that matter? Most of the criticism this weekend has been over the selection of Harris, who quite clearly doesn't deserve his spot in the series for any other reason than his birthplace. Cardiff '07 apart, he spends most GPs struggling to qualify for the business end of the meeting because his gating is so poor, and top quality riders are far more difficult to pass than those he storms past in the league. This compounded by the slick surfaces that the GPs are often raced on. Nicholls is a different case, and you'd do well to argue that he isn't in the Top 15 after missing out by a whisker on the Top 8 this summer and generally being far more competitive throughout the series. Either way, I fully defend my right to support who I like next summer, and neither of the Brits will rank particularly highly on the list. -
2009 Fim Speedway Grand Prix Permanent Wild Cards And Rider Line-up Confirmed
Seb the Snail replied to jw80487's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Harris! What a total disgrace! I can't say that I'm totally surprised, but as the Adder suggested, this decision stinks the place out. Nicholls deserves his spot, and I have no problem with Lindgren and Sajfutdinov taking their place in the series either, but there are at least half a dozen riders with a better claim than Bomber. The sooner riders are selected on ability rather than nationality the better, but I won't hold my breath. -
Wild Cards For 09
Seb the Snail replied to beesbarmyarmy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Surely that will be decided at the British Final as per the last couple of seasons? -
Scott Nicholls
Seb the Snail replied to schumi's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Maybe so, but on this season's evidence, wouldn't "Lukas Dryml cometh before a fall" be more accurate? I doubt that Woffinden is even in the Top 50 in the world at the moment, let alone the Top 15. The GP series will lose its last shred of credibility if he's given 1 of the picks. -

No Adams or Batchelor then? That's removed the last semblance of a chance that I'd make the effort to head up the M5. -
Wild Cards For 09
Seb the Snail replied to beesbarmyarmy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Rune has qualified anyway! I can't agree about preferring to see Bomber in the series rather than Sajfutdinov! Have you not watched him pootling around at the back all summer? Freddie showed last night that he is the 2nd Swede and should definitely get the nod over Davidsson. As you mentioned on the other thread, he could just do with cutting down on his schedule a little, so that he has the energy to allow him to raise his game on the big occasion. Like most others, I'd go for Nicholls, Lindgren, Holder and Sajfutdinov. Jarek and Bjarne are next best, but clearly the wrong nationality to get an automatic pick. -
Gp Tonight
Seb the Snail replied to shanecolvin's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Not much to add. The whole meeting and subsequent "Not So" Super Prix were predictable in the extreme. You can't help but admire Gollob, but the final Championship standings and record purse were altered dramatically by last week's fiasco. Totally wrong in every way, and I don't blame Greg one bit if he came out and said so. Apart from that, good to see Rune claim 8th. Snails like Rune. And as for AJ's move! All I can say is that I thought it was Kozza Smith on his bike for a minute! Quite how some posters are trying to defend it astounds me. Very sad for Lindgren whose season had been on a real downward spiral until last night. At least he got back on his feet. Leigh, for the umpteenth time in the GP this year, was just Leigh. Seemingly untroubled until push comes to shove, at which point he fluffs the start and just pootles around at the back, packs up his kit and goes home. -

Snaily? Realistically I can't do this as well as the Reading farewell meeting, and that should really take precedence, but it would be nice to be able to make an informed decision. I presume that you'll be there on Monday? -

I think that it's a sad reflection on the current state of Wolverhampton speedway that we are now 3 days from this meeting and yet there is still no line-up. With it's reputation for bringing over new talent and unique format, it's a meeting that I've often contemplated going to in the past, but how can anyone from outside the Midlands make an informed choice about whether to make arrangements when the runners and riders are shrouded in secrecy? If Leigh and Troy are confirmed then I could be tempted. I guess all we need now is Rico in for Puk and I'll be there. -
End Of Era Meeting At Smallmead
Seb the Snail replied to arnieg's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Update from the Reading website: A couple of late changes to Sunday’s line-up see Chris Mills and Chris Schramm replaced by Paul Clews and Linus Sundstrom, respectively. Of course, Clews needs no introduction to Reading supporters, having made 208 official club appearances and netting 1,096 points between 1998 and 2003, when his trademark swoops from the back became a regular feature of Smallmead meetings. Sundstrom, meanwhile, is a 17-year-old Swedish hot-shot, who hails from Avesta. He showcased his undoubted talent in a four-team tournament at Swindon last Sunday, when he impressively notched 11 points from four rides and helped Bristol Bulldogs to a fine success. ** HOT NEWS At the very end of Sunday’s End-of-an-Era meeting, the final four laps are going to be completed by Racers’ team manager Tim Sugar. This is a fitting honour to a man who has reached legendary status, having guided the club to glory on no less than nine occasions, as follows: League Champions – 1990, 1992, 1997 Knock-Out Winners – 1990, 1998 Four-Team Champions – 1993 Premiership Winners – 1991, 1993 BSPA Cup Winners – 1992 Sugar, who has previously ridden in mechanics’ races, said: “I was a little dubious when first asked if I would like to cover the last four laps, but it is a great honour and I was delighted to accept. “Naturally, I’m not out to break Per Jonsson’s track record, but it will be great to have ridden the last four laps on the circuit where be performed so brilliantly. “We have been blessed with so many fabulous riders here over the last 33 years and to be the last man on the circuit will simply be fantastic for me.” REVISED LINE-UP FOR SUNDAY 19 OCTOBER 2008, Engines Start 6.00 p.m. 1. Ulrich Ostergaard; 2. Glen Phillips; 3. Chris Neath; 4. Cory Gathercole; 5. Emil Kramer; 6. Tom P. Madsen; 7. Richard Sweetman; 8. Linus Sundstrom; 9. Robert Mear; 10. Danny Warwick; 11. Tomas Suchanek; 12. Jordan Frampton; 13. Paul Clews; 14. Mark Lemon; 15. Mads Korneliussen; 16. Shawn McConnell. Good news about Tim Sugar getting the last few laps, but the line-up gets less inspiring by the day. -
End Of Era Meeting At Smallmead

I'm hoping to come along to this (Mr Peasley please take note and your wallet) but I must say that it seems a very weak line up for such a landmark meeting? Why aren't there any of the former Bulldogs involved, or even just a few more current EL stars? Let's hope that the weather is kind, and the future bright for the Racers. I'm going to miss the journey back along the M4 with the points in the bag.
